Maria fell headfirst into the cold water that shocked her nervous system from the sudden change in temperature.
She quickly broke through the surface of the water and coughed up some water that had made its way up her nose when she suddenly fell in. Thankfully, the water only went up to Maria's shoulders, so she was able to plant her feet on the mushy dirt in the water and keep her head out in the air.
The sounds of rustling water continued and suddenly Maria felt warm hands on her cheeks. She looked in front of her and saw that Arthur's white blouse that had been loose on him before was now clinging to his body. Maria had a clear view of his pectoral muscles right in front of her face, and she swallowed hard.
"Are you alright?" Arthur asked her for a second time. Maria was so distracted by the view in front of her that she had not heard when he asked her the first time.
