Chapter 1 - Blackwell the Loser

" Look at Blackwell he can't activate his mystic orb ! ". yelled a stocky boy with dark brown hair named Thorne.

All the students in the class began to laugh, sneer, and whisper insults at Eregn struggling to activate his orb on his desk, holding his hands out he tried to block out the room full of eyes that were piercing through him, sweat began to drip down his brow and his hands began trembling from exhaustion, the orb shook gently and a small black wisp appeared for a second then dissapeared.

"Dammit I study all week on this spell and still no progession my magic is just to weak !" Thought Eregn, while the orb remained lifeless on his desk as he look around all the other students were having no trouble making their mystic orb activate some had fire, water, earth, wind and other various things in the middle of their orbs.

Eregn Blackwell was an excellent student when it came to studying magic in fact he was at the top of his class on all the written test although when it came to performing magic he just barely met the standards to qualify as a spellcaster.

" Haa ! I guess all that studying means nothing if you can't put it to use Blackwell. " whispered Thorne, " You should go ahead and drop out loser no way low class trash like you could compete with elites ! "

Thorne sneered at Eregn, soon a skinny middle aged man with neatly slick blonde hair and glasses named Professor Hibbit began to walk around the class waving his hand and a gust of air began to collect the orbs flying towards him and into a box.

" All right class thats it for the semester now I know it's been a long two years of basic training and now that almost everyone has a idea of what magical abilities they may possess you have two months to practice expanding your magical core and to decide which classes you should enroll in to become a spellcaster or a spellknight."

As soon as professor Hibbit collected the last orb a booming voice echo throughout the classroom.

" Eregn Blackwell report to the Headmaster Office Immediately ! " All eyes fell onto Eregn as he got up from his seat.

"Guess they must have heard how badly you suck Blackwell, probably going to kick you out !" yelled out Thorne, laughter began to erupt from the classroom as Eregn headed towards the door, but before he left he looked back at Thorne and mouth the words " Fuck you ! " with hate in his eyes if looks could kill, Thorne would have dropped dead right there.

Eregn began walking through the halls reflecting on his life he was always picked on and ridicule because he didnt come from a magical elite family.

At a very young age his mother passed away with his father taking the death of his mother so hard he decided to bury himself in his work going on expeditions, so he was always away on business helping others, researching artifacts often leaving young Eregn alone.

'Its not fair I study every night even pushing myself to try to be ahead of the class lessons yet I can only barely cast a simple spell if I was anyone else they would shower me with praises....one day I'll wipe the smug look off all of their faces." Thought Eregn as he quickly made his way to the Headmaster office. The door was a like a giant mirror, Eregn took a look at himself to make sure he was presentable.

Eregn was fifteen years old ,5'7 scrawny with black shaggy curly hair that usual covered his grey eyes that had bags underneath from his lack of sleep, making sure he was ready he took a deep breath dusted off his school uniform an latched on to the black pendant that had gold inscriptions that his mother gave him before stepping through the mirror door.

Almost immediately it pulled him In quickly, suddenly he was in a grand office with vast amount of books that had purple runestones hovering in the air glowing, guiding his way to the Headmaster corridor.

With each step Eregn could feel a increasing amount of magical pressure in the office turning around in a purple grand chair with a huge black desk was a man with perfectly groom purple hair with a beard to match in a violet robe like suit with gold around the trim of his collar and sleeves this man was known as Headmaster Calder Ambrose.

Eregn finally made his way to the Headmaster standing in front of the desk he could feel his legs shake profusely. "Take a seat my boy we have much to discuss."

Eregn could feel the pressure ease up and took a seat quickly. " Eregn I have called you to my office because I have grave news concerning your father... he has gone missing, from the information I have received is that he went on a expedition to scout and research a newly discovered monster island that appeared, tragically all communications of his party has been cut from the monster island... it also has completely sealed itself keeping others from coming close to it...I'm afraid that they are declaring him and his colleagues as dead....I'm sorry for your loss son."

Hearing this Eregn could feel a pain in his heart he clenched his pendant, lowered his head and tears fell from his eyes it was so many things he wanted to prove to his father, especially since he hasn't seen him in the last two years away at school.

" I also have gotten word on your written portions for the MacArthur Academy you have gotten the top score once again, but from the information I've gotten your teacher says that you struggle with the magical side usually they would turn you down if you magical aptitude is low." Eregn couldnt believe what he was hearing this had to be the worse day of his life to hear that his father was gone and his dreams shattered even more tears begin to flow from his eyes.

" This was suppose to be a suprise, but the current Headmaster is retiring and I have been chosen to take his place to be the next Headmaser for the academy usually I would agree with the standards, but we need all the spellcasters and spellknights now more then ever especially one that has potential like you so I will offer you a deal you have two months to prepare an if you can pass two of the four test of the magical entry exam I will make sure you get in."

Eregn wiped his eyes and raised his head looking at Headmaster with a glint of hope in his eyes stood up and bowed. " Yes Sir ! I will make sure I can figure out a way to breakthrough to reach my potential I wont let you down Headmaster Thank you !"

" Good now return to your dorm and collect your things to return home your caretaker says you have affairs to take care of with your fathers estate. " Eregn nodded his head with a look of determination.

Headmaster Ambrose smiled gently at Eregn as he he walked away out of the office. "Poor lad, growing up with your father Erebus, he was a good man , first his mother dying... now his father gone maybe this will be the push he needs to rise to greatness." thought Headmaster Ambrose watching Eregn go through the mirror door.
