Chereads / Little Flame / Chapter 2 - [Awakening]

Chapter 2 - [Awakening]

Within a large open field in the middle of an ancient forest, could be seen periodically flashing around. Chasing a tiny figure as if the Heavens wanted it dead.

BOOM BOOM BOOM

Vast amount of energy roiled from the site whilst the shockwave of every explosion threatened to uproot the environment around, demonstrating the power within. If someone with a keen eye was to get a closer look they would find floating dark balls of condensed energy shockingly situated across the entire field. Exploding whenever the blurry figure got too close to one. However, like a cockroach with a will to live he always narrowly avoids it with precision. An amazing feat for one to accomplish.

It's as if it knew when one of the dark energy balls where about to explode, and it isn't one or twice but every time! If precognitive abilities weren't so rare, many would believe it could see the future, but naturally that isn't the case.

Clearly, however, this state would only last the figure for so long. Eventually the blurry figure got slower over time due to exhaustion and was too late to dodge one of the balls of energy near him, blasting him away with the force of a car going full speed.

"AHHHH"

The figure was elevated from the ground for a period of time thanks to the blast but eventually plummeted down. However, before he could crash into the hard scorched soil, a large red figure whizzed by and grabbed him effortlessly. Once landed, the features of the large figure was brought to light. He had short yet slick red hair and burning red eyes with muscles that would put most body builders to shame. He stood over 6 ft high and carried the small figure on his arms as if he was a malnourished chicken. It was Cavrik, the training dum- ahem... the [Flaming Warrior].

Smiling at the flailing dirty figure on his arms, he quickly put it down the ground. And, like an animal hungry for blood, it took off without any hesitation.

"MOM! That was too much! What if I died?!?"

Quickly leaving the masculine figure of Cavrik, who grew a thick red beard, behind, the dirty figure dashed towards the petit woman standing by the discolored home, who calmly starring at the approaching silhouette without an ounce of fear or apprehension.

When the black figure looked like it was about to jump and devour the woman, it suddenly stopped one ft away from it. Clearly not intending any harm.

Within the eyes of the dark figure, the woman's features was finally revealed to be Noe, the [Shadow Mage]. Her features being completely the same as before, with her beautiful poker-face and somewhat petit figure body that stood with a height of 5'6. She was only slightly taller than the dirty figure in front of her but it didn't matter to her. The only difference that could be seen was that hair got a lot longer than before.

"...Sorry..."

Her voice was cute but it was way too quiet so the small figure had to strain his neck a bit to hear her properly. He could see that although her face expression had not change, the aura around her became a lot more sullen. He knew that he made her sad.

"Sigh... Mom don't be sad. It's fine, look I still have so much energy! I'm sure I will get the [Mage] class in the [Class Selection] ceremony. So be happy, ok?"

Watching the figure of her son trying to cheer her up, her mood significantly improved. Returning to a state of impassiveness with a hint of happiness.

[Water Orb]

A small orb of water suddenly appeared on top of the boy, immediately splashing on top of him and clearing all the grime and dirt that covered him head to toe from the explosion. Finally revealing what was underneath.

The boy had striking red hair that flowed just above his shoulders with various of feathers poking out here and then, though the two large feathers poking just before the middle of his hairline brought the most attention. He had a slightly toned body that stood just over 5 ft high that was further highlighted with his deep purple eyes containing hints of innocence. He looked like a charming boy who's looks would put most boys to shame... until he smiled...

"Hahaha that felt refreshing! Do it again!"

Behind his soft smiling lips, two sharp rows of teeth was revealed, shocking a passing squirrel who happened to see the scene. Immediately it made its little legs run faster than what it previously thought was its limit, vanishing through the shrubbery by the forest as if hiding from death it self. 'Fortunately' for it, no one paid attention to this funny critter.

"...No... [Class Selection]... prepare for your [Awakening]..."

Hearing the first part of his monotone mother's sentence, the boy, Aidan, felt down. He had always loved the feeling of his mother's Magic since he felt quite comfortable around it. He didn't know why but it always made him feel safe, like nothing could harm him.

Though his melancholic thoughts were immediately drowned by one word...

The day of [Awakening].

The day that all citizens in the universe classify as the most important moment of their lives. The most exciting day for all children as it marks the beginning of a glorious journey.

The day where multiple dreams are either fulfilled or shattered. Where heroes and villains rise to take their stage on the world to be forever remembered across time.

Even the calmest child wouldn't sit still!

Even the oldest monsters would look back at this day with reminiscence!

A great day for all!

Aidan, excited beyond belief, dashed through the open door of the house to pick up his bag. He had prepared everything the night before, making sure that nothing will be missed. If one were to look closely under his eyes they could find faint discoloring beneath, showing a lack of sleep.

After all, it was the day where he will obtain the System and choose his [Class], who could blame him?

Noe and Cavrik, who had appeared at some point, both looked at this scene in pure joy and a hint of melancholy.

"It's been 13 years already... Time really flows fast when you have children..."

Noe nodded, affirming Cavrik's words in a style which suited her. They had watched the chick they dubbed little flame hatch and grow on their nest, but now it's a fully grown bird ready to take off and soar beyond their supervision. Making them both somewhat saddened.

"Mannnn, time seriously went too fast... like flipping through a boo- KHA"

Before Cavrik could finish his words, he was suddenly smacked behind the head with a black staff. At some point in time, a dark wooden staff with a purple orb wrapped at the tip appeared on the hands of Noe and waked her husband in the back of the head. Cavrik, feeling wronged, turned towards her incredulously whilst holding his head in pain.

"You... get ready... we're [Teleporting]..."

"What about Gana and Hana?"

"They... are already... there..."

After saying her part, Noe turned around and began marking a particular piece of land with her staff, ignoring her puppy-eyed husband. Seeing that his cute play, if one could even call it cute, wasn't working he turned and walked into the house to pick up a giant black sword adorned like a trophy on the wall. With a white flash, it disappeared from his hands, as if it wasn't even there to begin with.

"I would be jealous of your [Item Box] if I wasn't [Awakening] today. But now I'm not!"

Hearing a mocking tone by his side, Cavrik glanced at the small boy starring up at him with his purple eyes. His shark-like teeth and two large feathers hanging from his head in full view for all to see. Cavrik, whilst wondering whose teeth his son took after, beamed with playfulness.

"Haha! That's right! You can finally be a great [Warrior] like your dad with a great [Item Box]!"

Cavrik was pleased by the thought. Father and son on the battlefield, slaying monsters and evil men with a swing. How much fun would the be?! Unfortunately, this dream was cut short.

"Who wants to be like you?!"

Aidan starred at his this idiot of a father with contempt. If becoming a [Warrior] meant losing his brain then he will stay FAR away from it. Thankfully this wasn't the case, his father was the only exception... since he was a natural idiot to begin with.

Cavrik froze like a statue, wondering if his ears were playing tricks on him.

"I want to be like Mom! Her Magic is so cool with the explosions *BOOM* and the [Shadow Bolt] *ZOOM*!"

Indeed, the father was not appreciated as Aidan began mimicking the spells and sound effects of his mother's Magic.

Before Aidan's father could break down into despair, his mother entered the house with elegance, informing them that the [Teleport] formation was ready.

Excitement started to pour into Aidans heart like a torrent as his scar-inducing smile got wider. Immediately he rushed past his parents and stood on the formation, waiting and hurrying his parents in eagerness.

"Come on Mom and Dad, the System is going to appear soon! I want to be right there for the [Class Selection]!"

Noe curved her lips as she began walking to the formation where the restless fella stood, dragging the gloomy figure with her.

"Stay... in the formation... and don't... stray too far... from us..."

Without saying a word, Aidan grabbed her black robes began nodding furiously as his cheeks started to hurt from smiling too much.

"Okay... [Teleport]"

The three of them disappeared from the location in the next moment, leaving the peaceful house to stand against the gentle wind blowing through the large trees and vibrant grass. Peace was finally returned to the area.

And thus a journey begins.
