"Avril get down here he's already waiting for you." Sighing, I closed my last suitcase as Gabriel had already started helping me with my other suitcases, I didn't want to leave but I had to.
Getting downstairs, I kissed both my parents goodbye and my mom tried to hold back tears. I was so distracted I didn't notice the person standing just a few feet away from us until my dad spoke up.
"Honey, this is Adrien, the bloodwolf Alpha." I turned to see this generally feared alpha but instead I met with the most beautiful blue eyes I ever saw; taunt muscles but not too bulky, prominent cheekbones and beautiful pink lips. I watched as his beautiful blue eyes darkened, what does that mean? I had no idea how long I was starting until I heard I light chuckle. Cocky bastard
" Adrien Russel." he said extending his hand. I took it with the hope of introducing myself too but instead I had lost my voice. I had to admit he's really attractive. My voice returned as I heard my dad clear his through. Damn I zoned off but I immediately introduced myself
"Avril, Avril Collins
Wanna know how we got here, well, grab your popcorn
FLASHBACK
"Avril, Beth's here to see you and hurry up, breakfast is almost ready." Mom screamed from the kitchen, she knew that was more than enough to wake me up, I'm almost certain she wants to know how long I could go before I have a heart attack from all her yelling in my sleep. Groaning I got off of the bed and into the bathroom, looking at myself in the mirror, shit wouldn't really cut it, I looked like I was attacked by a wild animal in my sleep but I knew better.
My eighteenth birthday is coming in a few days which is also the day of the moon ceremony, that was exactly what was freaking me the hell out. It's practically every moonwolf's dream to be chosen by the goddess, everyone except me.
The moon ceremony is some traditional ceremony, takes place every five decades where the moon goddess chooses five girls to gift. These gifts are both a blessing and a curse; you get the gift but in turn you loose the ability to feel the mate bond all you have is love which might not happen because you'll be too busy in the council looking after your people. A very strong part of me knows that it isn't just a mere coincidence that the ceremony is on my birthday.
Shoving those thoughts aside, I took off my clothes and went into the shower, I might at least make an attempt to look good, I wouldn't want to bother my mom. Recently Dad looks more stressed than usual, being the pack seer, he knows the chosen ones before the ceremony which I must say puts me even more on edge, I know he doesn't want me to go through what he had to without a mate, I'm happy he found mom even though that brought him out of the goddess's good books but he stood his ground and he still remains the seer till this day, I know I can't ask because he's duty bound to keep it a secret which explains why mom seems unfazed, well ignorance is a fucking bliss.
Slipping out of the bathroom, I put on my underwear then put on some shorts and a tank top, took a towel, dried my hair, combed it and put it up in a messy bun and walked downstairs as grudgingly as possible just to emphasize the disturbance of my beauty sleep.
"Morning ma." I said walking into the kitchen, the mouthwatering smell of bacon invading my senses making my stomach growl. " Hey Bethany, you're here early." I said taking a bite from my breakfast.
"Yeah, just woke up early and considering we're almost neighbours, I decided to come see you." She replied and I could tell she was hiding something but decided to let it go until we're alone.
Placing my empty plate in the sink, I kissed my mom goodbye and went strolling with Beth.
"What's wrong?" I asked when we were a good distance away from my home. Sighing, she replied "I know you also feel what I'm feeling, like you'll be chosen but that isn't what scares me the most, it's the feeling that you'll leave me soon Avril, I really don't know what I'll do if you leave me." She said holding back the tears but I heard the small sob before she held it back.
"Don't worry, I'm not going anywhere, we're a packaged deal, remember that." I said giving her a hug, but little did I know.
"I know what'll cheer you up, let's go get some ice cream." I said and she instantly smiled. I know there this myth that were wolves distance themselves from humans, well, not exactly.
We attend school and go to collage when the time comes and most of us have good paying jobs, we can't survive only on hunted meat, even though it's an essential skill we make sure to mingle with humans and our villages aren't far from civilization which is a relief, some even move away from the pack going to stay in the cities within the territories in order to work
"Two ice cream sundaes." I said as we got to the ice cream shop, we took a seat in a nearby booth and waited for our ice cream.
Looking over to Beth, I noticed that she was still carrying a long face and as I was about to speak, she beat me to it.
"If you leave, take this with you, it'll always remind you of me." She said taking off her diamond bracelet and putting it around my wrist. I stared at her in awe and some part of me started to believe that maybe I was leaving, why would I leave? I love it here, but the ceremony might cause me to leave. Shoving those thoughts aside, I spoke up while fighting my tears.
" Alright, but on a serious note, I'm not going anywhere, I'm right here okay?"
"Okay." she said wiping her tears.
Am I leaving?
