Chapter 21 - Chapter 19: Chaotic

Unfortunately all Martin could hear was how sorry Diana's friends were, and lots of promises that he found were unnecessary and not part of his plans. He kept a straight face going to Diana while carrying the bouquet as a show of gratitude and sympathy for her husband's death. "My deepest condolences Mrs Miller, I hope the police find out whoever did this. Mr Orlando sends his deepest apologies for not being able to be here today. However, he promises to be ruined with you way sooner. He's in Paris for a board meeting" said Martin and kissed Diana's cheeks on both left and right side.

Diana hugged Martin so tight while crying, she felt relieved to pour her heart out to someone who she didn't know much about, but only if she knew that the man she was hugging, was the same man who killed her husband then maybe she would have done something different - Marcus was still laying unconscious and when Martin came back, he smiled looking at Marcus and muttered "Not so tough now are you sir?" then he smiled.

The next day Marcus showed up to Jacob's funeral which was held at the cemeteries just near Brooklyn dressed in all black. Black shirt, black suit, black shoes and a huge black rain coat with black shades and a black hat - everyone else was in black too. It was an intimate funeral, just few of Diana's friends and only Jacob's mother - Claire who was a clerk in New Orleans. Claire was a fifty two years old woman who had Jacob when she was twenty years old, during her early college days and she wasn't a woman to play with.

Ever since the beginning of their courtship, Claire never liked Diana for her son. She thought Diana was self absorbed, selfish and too much for a simple man like Jacob who thought about nothing in life other than the people he loved. Diana was an "extra" as Claire described her. She kept going on and on about how her son deserved someone simple and easy, not a law student from Harvard who hang out with rich kids and she was always travelling - however Jacob was in love and he never listened to her, he went on to marry Diana even though his mother never attended the wedding and didn't approve of their relationship. Fast forward years later, Claire is now attending her only child's funeral and she didn't speak to Diana ever since she was informed that Jacob was shot dead.

"Um... ladies and gentlemen, and my fellow christians" Pastor Andrew started saying a few words after Jacob's body was laid down to his grave. "I am not that much of a talker I... I don't normally do the teachings and stuffs but... we just buried a young man who had dreams which he shared with his lovely wife, and perhaps he also had dreams of having children of his own, travel to places but now..." Pastor Andrew paused, then he took a white handkerchief out of his suit and wiped a tear.

"Now he rots in dirt, and it's my turn to be reunited with my one true love" Marcus thought out loud.

Jared stared at Demi, he was shocked as to what was really making the pastor cry, after all he was just an internet pastor who was paid to perform the ceremony. But there he was getting emotional as if he knew who Jacob was.

"Not him dropping a tear... this man's a joke!" said Jared.

Demi shooshed him "Shshshs" then she grabbed her attention to Diana, but she couldn't see her eyes because she wore black shades. Just behind Diana is where Marcus and Martin stood side by side observing everything.

"That's all for today my fellow christians. I do Sunday services on my church, everyone can attend, it's free..."

"Thank you Father" said Claire.

"No, thank you ma'am. And my deepest condolences on the loss of your son"

"Thank you once again"

Pastor Andrew said his goodbyes and left the cemetery, Diana and her friends remained - so did Marcus and Martin.

Claire took out her black shades and placed them inside her purse. She wore a short black dress, with black shoes and black heels which made her even way more elegant. She walked straight to Diana and faced her, if there was one thing Claire wasn't intimidated by were Diana's friends and at that time she had just lost a son... Diana was ready for all the insults and names she will be called by her.

"I guess you finally have what you wished for? What you have always wanted..." said Claire. Diana remained silent. "Take those damn stupid shades of yours bitch I'm talking to you. You look like a fucking clown"

Jared intervened "Sis you have went too far with this hate..." he said trying to stand against Claire, Diana and Demi tried to stop him but he wanted to be the hero.

However things didn't go so well when Claire slapped Jared, he almost fell down to the ground but Diana held him steady.

"You fucking male looking bitch! Don't you dare speak against me" shouted Claire. It hadn't even been an hour since her son was laid to rest, and she was there abusing and slapping people.

Marcus reached out for Diana and he pulled her to his side. "I'll get you out here" he said.

"Where do you think you going, huh? You fucking whore... You killed my son... And I will make sure you rot in hell for that" Claire was following Diana behind but she couldn't get past Martin's strong arms which kept her at bay. But maybe her hands were stopped but her mouth kept on ranting and ranting until Marcus started the car and then drove Diana away.

"I will get to the bottom of this Diana. You will rot in prison as my son rots in the dirt. I will make sure of it..." Claire kept screaming then she freed herself from Martin's hold and pushed Martin. "Get off me you bastard!" she cursed.

"Get a hold of yourself old lady, Diana didn't do anything to your son" Demi decided to speak up. He gave a wounded Jared to Vanessa and walked straight to Claire. "This is absurd and humiliating Claire. All that Diana has done over the years is love your son, and you haven't appreciated any of her efforts or her love"

"You want me to praise a woman for killing my son?"

"Your son was shot by a serial killer in an elevator. It wasn't Diana, it could never be Diana for my friend isn't a murderer. So it's either you grief for your son's life, or get out of our way"

Demi was so serious that it shook Claire for a bit and she shrunk and took a step back, then she fell down and broke down into tears. All the time she tried to put on a show of strength and that she was strong but she wasn't, she was shook and hurt. Demi, Jared and Vanessa left her on the ground and went on their own ways. The day had ended and they were ready to move on from everything.

Everyone was hurt by Jacob's death but Peter, who was Jacob's gym partner and a long time friend was still in shock and couldn't grasp the fact that his friend had died. He couldn't even attend the funeral, he kept saying that Jacob would return and that he wasn't dead, he refused to believe that Jacob was gone - forever. Diana noticed that Peter wasn't at the funeral and she decided to pay him a visit.

"Are you sure you don't want me to take you home?" asked Marcus after Diana presented to him that she wanted to see someone. "It's been a long day Diana you can use a rest" he insisted.

"No Marcus, I have to see him"

"Who's he? If you don't mind me asking..."

"He's Jacob's friend. His gym partner but he's been a friend to both of us for a long time. Oh poor Peter... he must be devastated. I must see him please take me to him"

"Alright Diana. It's alright, I'll take you to him just give me the address"

Diana gave Marcus the address and they drove to Peter's apartment and as Diana expected she found him on bed crying while holding his laptop - he was about to type something in but the moment he remembered that Jacob was dead he couldn't go on anymore and he froze. "Diana..." said Peter and he hoped up to his feet, Diana raced to him and these two had a moment. They both wept for Jacob, and Peter kept saying how he just saw him a few hours before he was killed. How he talked about being a changed man, how he was ready to commit to his marriage and make it work. "He was ready Diana, I hadn't seen him like that before. He talked about kids with you, he talked about a lot of stuffs which he was excited to achieve with you. And now... I can't still believe that he was gone" Peter wept hysterically hanging on to Diana's hand.
