Chapter 15 - Kaleidoscope

Zach looks at everything around him. He sees many kids falling after getting hit by the bullet. Their body convulsed as they tried to get up again but the second and third bullet soon followed. Soon, their body stopped moving. Zach knows that they've died, the Capsicum gas makes the Noctacian organ burn from inside slowly, which will lead to organ failure. The gas makes their regeneration becomes slow, as their healing ability focused on repairing their organ. Of course, the Visa family knows about this. That's why they made a special bullet to kill them while they're weak.

The bullet will still kill them even if they're strong, but it will take more than ten bullets and it needs to reach their vital organ or they still can be healed. Zach continues to run, he knows he needs to get out from here before their bullet hits him again.

Zach spotted a familiar body lied on the ground. It's Amaris. Her body is half-burned, it seems she was too close to the explosion. Zach carries Amaris on his back, his body protesting him because of the new burden. The gun wound throbbed in his back, as he doesn't have the time to take out the bullet. Every step feels like torture for him, his organ hurt like someone pour burning oil on them.

The brown-haired man stiffened when he heard a gunshot directing to him. He can't evade the bullet with Amaris on his back, so he braces himself to get hit for the second time. A shadow suddenly emerges and blocked the bullet for him.

"Rhea, what are you doing?!" Zach snapped. He looks at the woman who held her bleeding shoulder.

"I won't let you die here, I will help you get out alive, brother."

"You shouldn't be here! You should run away like the rest of them. For God's sake, you're a human Rhea!"

"I don't care if I'm a human, I'm not letting anything happen to you if I can stop that. Come on, we need to run," Rhea urged Zach.

Zach knows he can't let Rhea's effort go to waste, so he speeds up his run, ignoring the pain he's feeling. Zach can see their destination is near, after reaching the forest those snipers won't be able to hit them again. Then, another gunshot rang in the air.

"Ugh..!" a groan comes from behind Zach.

"Rhea!!" he turns his head and sees the black-haired woman stumbles on the ground. There's a gun wound on her lower right back.

"Go! I will be fine!" she shouted.

Zach runs quickly to Rhea and yanks her up. He supports her with his left shoulder, "Let's get out of here alive."

Rhea nods her head and she runs along with him. She can feel her blood slipping out from the wound, but she grits her teeth. She can't fall here, she needs to make sure that Zach comes out alive.

"You owe me coffee after this," she joked when they finally reach the forest.

"Yeah, after I finish scolding you later. We need to go to the medic."

"Zach, here!" a voice shouted. Tika stands not far from them.

"Great timing Tik, Can you help me bring Amaris? I will help Rhea," Zach asked.

"Okay, you follow me," Tika said after she carried Amaris on her back.

"How about the other?" Zach asked again.

"I don't know, it's a mess here. Many get hurt and fallen, we tried to scout the parameter and bring the one we still can save," she explained.

"How about Raven? I told her to get Alma."

Tika's expression becomes troubled, "They're both disappeared."

"Damn…!"

***

Ten minutes before.

On the different side, two-man standing near each other, one taller than the other. The taller one has red hair, a muscular body, and a pair of dark eyes with a serious expression. While the other man has navy hair, an average body, and a pair of sapphire eyes unlike the taller man, this man has a more soft expression. But his expression is tinged with worry.

"Why are you here? She's supposed to be here, not you," the taller man grumbled. He looks at the shorter man with a clear dislike.

"She's pregnant, I can't let her come. So I come in her stead."

"Hah, you shouldn't come at all. You only looking for dead by coming here when you're only a human," the taller man scoffed.

"Don't say something like that, we're only negotiating with the Visa family. I think it won't be that bad."

"You wish, the Visa family must be up to something. You better go back now before anything happen," the taller man said again.

"Then, why don't you come back with me?"

"I'm different from you, I can protect myself."

"So do I," the shorter man insisted.

"Whatever, don't say I didn't warn you later, Van," the taller man grunted before leaving.

"Thanks, Rio," Van muttered, knowing Rio will still be able to hear it.

Rio grumbled when he heard Van's words, he wonders why he gave him that warning. He and his stepsister aren't on a good term anyway, he can just ignore her husband like usual. But somehow, Rio gets the feeling something bad will happen and he just can't leave the man alone.

"What did she think? Why she let him come?" he mumbled, failed to understand his sister's mind.

"Hah! Whatever, I already warned him," he scoffed. It's not like he ever understands his stepsister in the first place.

BOOM! BOOM! BOOM!

Suddenly, the ground shakes hard like an earthquake.

Rio turns his head towards the source of the voice, he sees many big oil drums rolling down from the top of the hill.

"Watch out!" he yelled while shoving Van out of the way.

BLAM!

An oil drum crashes where Van stood before.

"What do you think going blank like that?!" Rio snapped.

"But it's too fast, I don' have time to evade," Van argued.

"That's why I told you to go back! This isn't a place for humans like you!" Rio fumed.

BANG! BANG!

A gunshot rumbles in the air and hits the oil that leaked from the drum.

"Shit!" Rio cursed.

He swiftly gets up and picks Van with one hand. Rio's feet darted and run away, but before he gets far, the oil exploded.

BOOM!

Rio shifted his position, he tried to block Van's body from the explosion. Their body gets blasted by the explosion and land five meters from their original location. His body twitched in pain because of the burn in his skin. His nose smelled the gas in the air, the Capsicum gas.

"Fuck!" Rio cursed again. Even when he's a Noctacian and has a high regeneration ability, he will need some minutes to heal his burn.

"Rio! Cough, cough, are you okay?!" Van coughed. The smoke is choking him.

"Cough!" Rio coughed blood. He can feel his inside is on fire with how much Capsicum gas he inhaled.

"Wait Rio, I'll help you!" Van declared before he tried to lift Rio. But he failed due to the weight.

"You can't do anything. Just run!" Rio snapped.

"No, I can't leave you here. I'll ask someone to help you, just wait!" he said before looking around where they landed.

"Look at what we found," a voice intruded their argument.

Van turns to the voice, five-man standing in front of them. They wear a hazmat suit and brings a rifle on their hand.

"An Aeternum and human it seems. What should we do captain?" one of the men asked the person who's standing in the center.

"Kill the human and capture the Aeternum," the captain answered.

"But he's a human," another man hesitated.

"He's with the Aeternum. He is probably his accomplices or his soul-bond. He's a traitor for the human race, kill him!" the captain ordered.

"STOP!" Rio yelled, but he was late.

Two of them shot their bullet at Van, the human can't evade the bullet and soon he collapses.

"Van!!!" Rio shouted, he tries to get up but his wound makes him unable to move.

"Go capture him!" the captain ordered.

"I won't let you have your way, never!" he declared.

Rio concentrated and gathered every single of his energy in one place. He can feel his entire body heats up. It gets hotter and hotter.

"I'm sorry Fay, I can't go back to you," he mumbled.

BAM!

His body explodes, a crater with five meters diameter can be seen where he laid before. Nothing is left.
