Mia sits on a chair. Her hands caressing her flat stomach, while her red eyes looking at the distance. Sometimes she will look down at her stomach with a soft smile.
"How's your father doing right now, I wonder," she whispered, still caressing her three-month pregnant belly.
She never thinks she will be pregnant at her age before and married a human on top of that. Mia always looked down on humans and think they're scum. But all of that changed after she met her husband, Van. She smiles when she remembers the first time she met him.
At that time, Van came to her asking her to eat him. She was intrigued by the request. She knows Van is a friend of her cousin, Zach. He came to Zach and asked him to eat him. But Zach refused and introduced him to her instead. Of course, she could eat him but her curiosity got the best of her and made her curious of Van. Why was this man wanted to be eaten?
Slowly, they become closer and fell in love with each other. Mia fell for the man's goofiness and kind heart, while Van fell for all of her, that's what the man said. She chuckled remembering the man's corny word that still able to make her blush. They're in their sweet new marriage period. He will always call her with a nickname like sweet fangs because according to him her fangs are cute. She never feels this loved before, since her family isn't a harmonious one.
She grew up without receiving much love, so now when she finally got it she held into it tightly. Mia sighed when she thinks that she is fallen head over heels for her husband, but she's happy with that.
"I hope he will be okay," she murmured.
Her eyebrows scrunched in worry thinking about her husband joining the mission. She should be the one who joined the mission, but her husband talked her out of it. He told her that he doesn't want her getting a miscarriage. It isn't a baseless worry, because when a Noctacian and human having a child the probability of miscarriage is higher. They were arguing about it for many days until finally, she gave in when he said he wanted to be a good father and husband.
She still thinks about their sweet moment to make her forget about her worry, when suddenly she feels a pang in her heart like someone squeezed it. She feels something slipping away from her and can't return. Tears streams down her face, she curled her body and began sobbing.
"No… no…. no…. this can't be happening…. I won't believe this… NO! PLEASE NO! VAN!!!" she cried.
Mia doesn't have concrete proof, but somehow she knows something happened with her husband. She doesn't know what is it, but she has a hunch it won't be good.
"NO! I have to make sure he's okay… Amy, yes, I have to ask her," she declared before she runs to her goal.
"AMY!!" she yells when she reached her goal, Amy's lab.
Inside, she sees Amy looking at the wall with a wet face and unfocused eyes. She knows if Amy is being like this, that's mean she's connected with someone. Amy's gift is her ability to connect with anyone and see what they're doing. Usually, when Amy uses this gift she won't bother her because it will make her focus crumbled. But she doesn't care anything about that right now, she needs an answer immediately.
"AMY!" she shouted once again while shaking Amy's shoulder.
Amy blinked her eyes several times and her eyes slowly become focused. She raises her trembling hand and wipes her tears from her face.
"Amy… please tell me…. How is Van?" Mia pleaded with her.
Amy looked to her cousin with conflicted eyes. She can see the hope inside her eyes, but she can't lie to her. Amy knows Mia must have felt it too, the feeling when she lost her soul-bond.
"I'm sorry Mia…" Amy whispered.
"No, no, no! Amy, please tell me it's not true… please, Amy…." Mia begged, she kneels in front of Amy with a tear-stained face.
"I'm sorry… he doesn't make it" Amy apologized once again. Her voice cracked because she knows how much it broke her cousin.
"VAN!!!" Mia wailed.

In another place, a woman sits with tears on her face. She cried silently while looking down at her lap. Her surrounding is a mess with people panicking and many Noctacian comes and left bringing the wounded. She got a bleeding wound on her legs but she seems to not care at all.
"Why did you do that you idiot?" she mumbled.
"Fay, are you okay?" one of the medics asked when she sees her crying.
"No, I'm not," she answered faintly.
"What happened? Is your wound hurt?" the medic asked again.
"I lost someone," she stated.
"Ah. I'm sorry about your loss… Can I do something for you?"
"Just leave me alone for now, please," she said with a cracked voice.
"Okay, if you need anything just call me," the medic said before leaving Fay alone.
The purple-haired woman covered her face, "Idiot," she muttered once again.

Mia walked around the village aimlessly, the area around her eyes are red because she cried too much. She stills can't believe that she lost the love of her life, her soul-bond. She heard about other Noctacian who lost their soul-bond but she never imagined it will hurt this much. She feels like her heart stopped beating, suffocated, and difficult to breathe. She doesn't even understand why she's still alive despite all of the pain. It was pain beyond anything she ever had before. She willingly chose to be stabbed by a spear rather than feeling this pain.
"Why?!!" she shouted.
She doesn't understand why she has to lose someone she loves when she just gets it. Is it her karma for doing many sins before? Mia runs without looking where she's going. She just wants to run and forget about everything. But with each step she takes, she remembers her memory with her husband again, their first night, their date, his smile, his voice… Mia stumbled and tripped. When she sees her surrounding, she realizes that she's in the place where she met her husband for the first time.
Tears fall from her eyes again, she remembers what Amy said before she left the lab. She said that Van's body is blown into pieces. She cried until nothing come out of her eyes anymore. Mia walked back to her home silently. When she reached her home, she picked her photo with her husband. In the photo, they're holding hands with a smile on their face.
"In another life, I would make you stay. So I don't have to say you were the one that got away," she said.
A single tear landed on the photo.
