You pack up your stuff quickly and follow him out onto the football field and into the bleachers. He finds a spot and sits down, so you follow him and take a seat next to him.
"Now we can talk a little more privately and not have them eavesdrop on us," He says.
"Okay," you say, "What did you mean when you asked if I was human?"
"Getting straight to the point huh?" he replies with a chuckle. He's laughing about this?, "I know this is going to sound crazy but I am not human."
"What?" you say in confusion, "What do you mean you're not human?"
"Babe, listen to me first and then ask questions, okay?" He says.
"Okay, but one thing," You tell him and he nods, "Don't call me babe."
"Okay I won't Darling," he says and you just roll your eyes.
"Just continue," You say, wanting to know what he meant.
"Okay. You see all but a few of the people in this town aren't human. This is what people like me, like to call a pack town. That's because mostly everyone who lives here are werewolves, and before you say that's impossible just let me explain. Werewolves are real along with vampires. We have been here since the beginning. We have wolves that live in our minds. They are the wolf that you see when we shift, and they can take control of our human forms. My wolf's name is Malachi. Us and our wolves also have soul mates, we just call them mates though. Now if you have any questions you may ask them," He tells you.
"Is what you told me true or are you just pulling my leg?" you ask him seriously.
"It's a hundred percent true," He tells you.
"Promise?" You ask him.
"Promise," He says looking you right in the eyes, "Any other questions?"
"Is it true about the full moon?" You ask.
"No," He rolls his eyes.
"Silver."
"Sorta."
"What do you mean sorta?"
"It hurts us but we won't die unless it gets in our hearts," He explains.
"Oh, okay," you say, trying to think of another question.
"Is that it?" He asks.
"I do have one more question," you say and he looks at you expectantly, "why are you telling me all of this?"
He looks hesitant to tell you, "Because… well, you're my mate."
"I am?" I say in surprise.
"Yeah," He says, "I know this is a lot to process, so if you want me to leave you alone for a while I can."
"No," you tell him, "Please stay. I don't have anyone else to talk to."
"Okay," He says looking at you.
You guys sit in silence for a few moments until the bell rings, and you guys head off to your next class. He walks you to your class and goes to leave when you remember you forgot to ask him something.
"Wait," you say and he turns around, "What's your name?"
"Cole Black," He says then nods towards you, "What's your's?"
"(y/fn) (y/ln)," you tell him.
"Well then see you later, (y/n)," He then turns and walks away.
"See you," you say then walk into the classroom.
You can barely concentrate in your last period not just because it was the last period of the day, but because you were thinking about your mate. You sit in your desk wondering how werewolves could be real, and how one could be your mate. It now made sense why people kept staring at you in the hallways and talking about you behind your back. You are so in your own world that you aren't even paying attention when your teacher calls on you. The person next to you pokes your arm to get your attention.
"Yes Mrs. Peers?" You say to get the question.
"What is the answer to number four?" Mrs. Peers asks you.
"1492," I say answering the question of "When did Columbus sail the ocean?"
She looks at her paper to see if you got it right, "That's right. Next time be paying attention so I don't have to repeat myself."
"Yes ma'am," You say as you slump down in your seat.
The rest of the period you listen to the boring lesson of how Columbus discovered America. You don't understand why you have to learn about Columbus in every history class you take, you feel like it's a little redundant. You are glad when the bell rings and releases you from having to listen to Mrs. Peers lecture. You quickly gather up your stuff and leave the classroom as fast as you can. When you get out of the classroom door you run into a body.
"Sor-" you start but you look up to see your mate.
"Are you going to finish that apology or should I be the one apologizing?" Cole asks you.
"Well technically I wasn't paying attention to where I was going, so I am sorry for running into you," You admit.
"Thank you. I am sorry that you bumped into me," He says.
"Are you saying that sarcastically or seriously?" You ask him with furrowed brows.
"Sarcastically," He pauses, then says in a duh tone, "Obviously."
You laugh and then continue to walk towards the school's exit. Cole walks with you then asks you, "Did you drive here?"
"Yeah why?" You wonder.
"I was just seeing if you had a ride home or not," He says with sincerity.
"Oh," You say with a surprised tone, "Well thanks for your concern."
"Why wouldn't I be concerned? You're my mate, I am supposed to worry about you." He says to me, "Plus I just want to make sure you are safe. There are some werewolves that hate humans, and treat them like dirt. I just want to make sure that doesn't happen to you."
You couldn't help but think that Cole is a super sweet and cute guy, "Well thanks for being worried about me."
