Chapter 2 - Ch 2: Waking Up

'It's about time the captain woke me up.' Spiro thinks to herself inside the ship's virtual command center as she tries to access the array of sensors on the ship only to receive errors in return.

'Alright how about the ship's compu-' Spiro thinks as she realizes that the ship's computing power is significantly reduced from how it was when she was last awake.

'I need eyes' Spiro thinks as she tries to access anything only getting a response from the nanites that could make repairs on the ship. An overwhelming feedback like the machines are saturating the air, but a response nonetheless.

'What about my body?' Spiro thinks as she quickly checks that.

======================

In a deep dark part of the ship a pod door opens as an android falls out onto the ground.

"Right, everything is off." Spiro says aloud as she is doing damage control on her robotic body.

"Gyro sensor is trashed, along with optical." Spiro says unable to right herself.

"Well, at least the nanomachines still work." She says as she calls upon the overwhelming nanomachines in the air to repair herself.

A few minutes pass in silence before the buzzing of the microscopic machines reverberate in the air.

Suddenly the room comes into vision.

Spiro moves around her arm.

"Motor control seems to be functional, though some components need replacing but that is not the most important thing right now," Spiro says aloud to no one in particular.

"I don't think I am gonna be space-worthy again for a while. Need to preserve what I can." Spiro commands the Nanites to save what they can of her main computer and server room.

"How long has it been." Spiro says standing up out of balance looking at the corrosion on the ceiling.

"That's, I can't actually match that to a date, it's well over 500 years worth of corrosion." Spiro says to herself realizing her crew is also likely dead.

"I need to recover the crystal disk drive so I can remember what happened." Spiro says as she makes her way limping to an emergency stairwell. Especially since the elevator is not obviously not gonna be working. The electronic joints of her robotic body whining protesting the movement as the motors grind against a rough surface since the bearings have long worn out.

Walking around the narrow halls Spiro is looking around finding busted cameras and sensors everywhere. There is sand all over the floor along with dust. The steel and some titanium components of the mostly Steel titanium aluminum alloy support structure and interior has rusted showing an orange and flakey surface in several corners of the halls. The exterior armor made up of a Lena and iron alloy is mostly untouched and only suffers superficial damage from what appears to impact with the planet's surface.

"Did we have intruders?" Spiro asks herself arriving at the door to the bridge which is bent open in ways only an enhanced human could manage.

"Captain?" Spiro shouts looking around for her captain. That was until she found the literal skeleton crew. Before looking at the shattered and partially caved in front view which has a massive mound of sand pouring in through it.

"I still don't know what happened, but Ii could probably guess that reentry killed them." Spiro says

"Those two must have been the ones that awoke my systems. Stupid scrappers, I won't go down easily even if I don't have my crew." Spiro says, looking at the 2 fresh dead bodies with puddles of blood drying on the ground.

There is a ding heard in Spiro's as she receives a status report on the ship's main computer.

"Scrappers took my stuff!" Spiro shouts seeing her main drive storage tower gone from the server room.

"At least I still have fragmented data across other drives which are a backup of my personality and some memories. Imagine if I couldn't remember who I was. I need to make a new main drive tower before I go out otherwise It will be like short-term memory loss If I were to enter sleep mode." Spiro says to herself as she sets the Nanomachines to work on building a new one with whatever spare parts could be found from sensors and scrap material are destroyed beyond repair components of the ship.

"I'm on backup power to aren't I?" Spiro says as she realizes she only has about 3 hours left of power.

"I need to restart the reactor." Spiro says as she starts to make her way, limping at a decent speed, not wanting to stress out her android body to the core of the ship.
