Chapter 6 - Sparring between the King and the Princess of Humane

The sun set gracefully on the Kingdom of Humane. A bell chimed in the distance, birds sang wondrously as Humane all around the Kingdom continued about their daily tasks.

At the castle, Wren stepped out of her room. Walking to the courtyard, she brushed her palms together, grinning. She was ready to start her training for the day. Her father appeared behind her from the other side of the hallway.

"Wren," Randall called.

She tilted her head back. "Yes, Father?" she answered. "What is it?"

Her Father joined her in walking. "To the courtyard?" Randall asked. The red-caped royal guards bowed as they passed by. The king waved at them with a regal smile.

"Yeah, to train," she replied.

Randall laughed while rubbing his chin. When they'd almost reached the courtyard, he stopped,

Wren looked at him and stopped, also. "Father what's wrong?" she asked, staring straight into her father's eyes.

Randall sighed. "Why didn't you wait for a healer to heal Jared?"

Wren only smiled. "I just felt I should heal him instead." She lowered her eyes. "Sorry, Father, I... " she muttered.

Randall put his hand on her plaited hair, affectionately. "Don't worry, that was in the past. You should've see the shock in his eyes when he noticed you can also heal apart from your other potency," Randall said with a smile.

Both knew there was no one in the history of Humane who possessed two potencies at hand because it had been rendered impossible. If the word that a Humane could have two potencies were revealed to the public it would cause an uproar from the entire Kingdom of Humane, if not all the Kingdoms in the world. They didn't care about them much, except for one, the Nymphs.

Wren nodded as she stepped into the large and well-appointed courtyard. It contained the best training materials which could withstand any hit. She stared at the orange clouds, flowing together as the sun fully disappeared below the western horizon. She cracked her neck, rolled her shoulder, looked at her handler and nodded, ready to train.

Her handler stepped forward but Randall stopped her. "Not this time, madam," he focused on his daughter, "Let me be your handler for today."

Randall removed his crown. Immediately one of the Royal Guards in red cape went to him, spreading his hands. The king smiled, gently putting the crown on his hands.

"Thank you," Randall said as he unbuttoned his cape, folded it together and placed it on the ground. As soon as he did, his cape emitted intense heat making a crack open in the ground, oozing lava. He stood up and removed his boots. "I have just a minute or two to spar with you my dear, before my cape-"

"Stop showing off, father. Let's go already," she interrupted. Wren held up her palms, facing her father. Randall stood still and smiled. Suddenly, Wren shot many bubbles from her palms, gently swarming straight at her father. He dodged them effortlessly.

"Is that all you can do my dear?" Randall teased, leaping closer.

Wren smiled. He walked to my trap easily, she thought. She stamped her right foot to the ground and spiky ice came out beneath towards Randall's feet. Wren smirked. "I won!" she cried before the ice could reach his feet.

Randall looked with raised eyebrows at the ground where he stood. He launched himself up and floated in the air with ease while folding his arms, he looked down. "A nice assault my dear, but you were too..." Randall laughed.

Wren and the handler stared at Randall in the sky while the Royal Guards were searching for their king.

Wren pursed her lips. "Haven't seen you do that move in a long time, Father. But something seems off, where are your flames?"

Randall laughed. "You are not the only one training, my dear. I can control my potency by only ejecting a flammable gaseous hydrocarbon, from the bottom of my feet. It's invisible to the eyes but it does smell nice."

Wren smiled. "So, Father, you finally studied your books."

"Why not, my dear? I had to. How else could I show my daughter I have what it takes to spar with her?" Randall said with a smile.

"Enough chit chat! I'm coming for you!!" she growled. Wren stomped her feet to the ground. Two pillar of ice almost as tall as her father burst forth from the ground beneath her feet, lifting her up. She raised her hands. Immediately, bubbles came out of her palms. She flung the bubbles all around her father.

Randall looked at the bubbles around him. "What are all these about?"

"Guess!" she said, then folded her hands tightly. The bubbles exploded, turning into quick ice on Randall. As he struggled to move, Wren nodded, then Randall smirked.

"You were trained well." He looked at the handler and nodded, the handler smiled. Randall fixed his gaze on Wren. He drew in a deep breath and exhaled, melting the ice around him. He smiled. "Is that all?"

"Are you expecting more?" Wren tossed her plaited hair to the side. "Quit defending and fight me!" She went straight at her father, moving the ice pillars beneath her feet. She twisted around Randall spraying her dad with ice spikes from out of her palms. Randall bypassed them easily. Suddenly, bubbles from behind glued themselves onto Randall's back, where his hands could not reach.

"How?!" he asked, trying to remove them with his hand. He gestured behind his shoulder to vaporize the bubbles.

Wren smirked. "I wouldn't do that, Father, if I were you," Wren warned. The bubbles exploded on his back, slamming Randall to the ground. He landed on his face, creating a crater in the ground. Slowly it spread from his back to the ground, freezing his body. Unable to move, he rolled his eyes up at Wren as she held her fist towards him, breathing heavily.

"I know you're not giving me your all, father." Wren said, trying to goad her father to fight her with his full potency.

Randall sighed. "Okay, my dear. As you wish." Randall closed his eyes, a sudden explosion of visible white aura surrounded his body as the ice melted and vaporized away. Randall levitated slowly.

The air around the courtyard felt hotter, Wren observed in shock. Suddenly, Randall opened his eyes, emitting a white stream of burning vapor, then flames lit up his body. Slowly the flames covering his body turned white. The burning white flame made the sky shine like day. The people outside the castle stared up at him in the sky, horror struck. Wren's eyes went wide.

Is this what the handmaids told me about? How incredible Father can be in his full potency?! she thought.

Randall continued to glow; now everyone in the Kingdom saw the great light blazing above the castle. Even Jared in his room and Abbey outside the castle speaking with some of the Royal Guards in yellow capes turned their faces to look at the light from afar.

"My king," Jared whispered with a smile, looking at the light through the window in his room.

"Unbelievable! The air around us is getting hotter!" the Royal Guards around Abbey cried, surprised. Their yellow capes blew in the opposite direction uncontrollably while Abbey looked at the light without saying a word.

Back at the courtyard, the force from Randall slowly pushed Wren. She covered the front of her face with her hands. Her handler stared at Randall's cape. It was almost melting the ground! She sighed, then squinted towards Randall's incredible white flames.

"So, my dear, this is my full potency at work," Randall said looking straight at his daughter, his arms folded, fully engulfed in his white flames.
