"Why do I feel strangely excited", he asked.
"It's called the berserker class what do you expect", I said. Nevertheless he still followed Oliver down the left hallway.
I looked at Kaitlyn before saying, "System what is keeping the ship and the barrier running".
"The ship and barrier are running on spirit liquid which can be called our fuel".
"So if we have more spirit liquid the barrier will last longer and we can have enough energy to fire the cannon?"
"Affirmative", answered the same robotic tone.
"Do we have the necessary materials onboard needed to create spirit liquid?", I asked.
"Affirmative. In the first door on the left in the left corridor there is a room with the needed materials and formula for creating spirit liquid".
I looked at Kaitlyn at said, "I need you create as much liquid as you can and if there is anything else that you might think is useful make it too". She nodded and ran off.
I looked at the outside and said, "System show me a projection of the pirate ship".
Immediately a spaceship showed up in the middle glass window.
Analyzing the projection, I realized the pirate ship was heavily armed. Time was ticking, and I had to make strategic decisions. I turned to the control panel.
"System, divert power from non-essential systems to the cannon and extend the barrier as much as possible and turn on any intercoms if there is any".
A mic popped out from the controls panel and I pulled it towards me.
"Mark, prepare for combat. Once Oliver upgrades the suit, we'll need you out there".
As soon as I finished speaking the ship shuddered from another impact. Every second mattered.
"Oliver, how's the suit coming along?" I called through the intercom.
"Making progress, but I'm not a miracle worker," he replied.
Kaitlyn returned with a container of spirit liquid. "This is all I could make in the time given."
I instructed her to go to the engine room and find out where to pour it.
I took the containers and poured them into the ship's system. "System, how much longer on the barrier?"
"Five minutes and counting," the robotic voice responded.
Kaitlyn came back and I instructed her to join Mark and Oliver, we need any advantage we could get. Time was slipping away and the fuel Kaitlyn made only gave us five more minutes.
As the countdown reached the last minute, the pirate ship were closing in. "Mark, get ready. Oliver, finish that upgrade. Kaitlyn, assist Mark with anything he might need."
The barrier flickered, and the ship rocked from another impact. I clenched my fists. We had one shot at this. The plan was for the ship to get close enough to create a hole in their ship with the cannon and send Mark in to fight/destroy stuff.
The seconds ticked by and opportunity was coming up.
"System, on my signal send any remaining unessential power to the cannon." Time went and after what felt an eternity I yelled, "FIRE!".
With a blaze of fire and light the cannon fired off a shot at the enemy ship. With a 'KABOOM' sound a hole was created in the enemy ship. Following right after it was figure in a space suit heading toward the hole. The upgrade Oliver gave it was a makeshift jetpack.
"System, is there way to establish communication with Mark?"
"One moment"
A few seconds later I could hear someone's heaving breathing through the speaker.
"Mark, can you hear me?", I said.
A couple heavy breaths later. "Yeah, loud and clear".
I smiled. "Is this your first time walking out it space?"
"To be honest, he said, " I don't know" " I can't seem to remember anything past my name. Not my family or anything."
