Billie laid in bed that night, replaying the last two days. A billionaire. A gorgeous, virgin, billionaire. She pinched herself. Ouch! She wasn't dreaming. She smiled and sighed. Don't over think it. Don't do it. If he never talks to you again, you have this memory. She resisted the urge to google him for as long as she could. She picked up her phone and typed in his name.
"Billionaire leaves entire fortune to only son." And photos of his father and mother came up. He looked like his mother. She was so beautiful.
"Billionaire playboy the world's most eligible bachelor?" Another article said. There were photos of him on a yacht with male friends and several gorgeous women. Another of him in a tuxedo at a charity event.
Then, as she scrolled to the next page, an article that caught her attention.
"Software moguls son accuses priests at boarding school of sexual misconduct. Three transferred to new dioceses." She clicked on the article but nothing came up. It was blocked for some reason. She looked at more photos and articles of him and closed her phone. What was she doing? He was out of her league. Way the fuck out of her league. Not just because of the money, but looks alone. Education. God. She thought. She pulled at her fat rolls on her tummy and closed her eyes. What did he see in her? She thought.
The next morning, she woke up and went to work, still floating from her time with Ezra.
"Some hot ass man was here to see you the other day." Paula said as Riley tied her apron. "If I didn't owe so much on this restaurant, I'd have run off with him in a heartbeat."
Billie smiled. "I spent the night with him." She said quietly.
"Damn girl! I was hoping so!" Paula said.
"I have a secret." Billie said.
"Well spill it, girl." Paula said.
"He's kind of rich." She said.
"Oh? Like owns his own business? House?" Paula asked.
"Something like that." Billie said. "Like 15 houses."
Paula looked at her and blinked her eyes.
"Paula, he's a billionaire. 80 billion-aire." Billie said.
Paula's mouth dropped. "And he's gorgeous, too." She said. "You have hit the jackpot. Why are you here? What's his number? I'm calling him to come and take you away." She said. Billie laughed. "It's new. And I'm still figuring it all out. It's been awhile for me and I'm still healing from… my ex." She said.
"I understand. I wish I would have met you earlier, I could have taught you some ways to… heal faster." She said to Billie with a wink. Billie shook her head and smiled.
"I'm happy for you." She said.
"Thank you, Paula." Billie said.
After a long shift, Billie sat down and had a cup of coffee. She needed to run to the store and get a few things but she was exhausted. The coffee helped. She told Paula goodbye and walked out to her Jeep. As she opened her car door, she heard a familiar voice a distance away. Her heart began to pound and her breath became labored. She froze.
"Have you seen this woman? It's very important I find her. She is part of a police investigation." Billie didn't need to see him. It was Sean. He was at the gas station across the street. She got into the Jeep as fast as she could. She drove to her house and packed as much as she was able to fit into two large garbage bags and her duffel bag. She grabbed all of her prepaid cards and left some of the money Ezra had given her on the counter. She wrote a quick note to Paula "I hope this covers the cost of the Jeep. I had to take it. I'm so sorry. He found me. I have to go or he will kill me. Thank you for helping me. I love you." and walked out, loading up the bags and guitar. She drove off and out of town and didn't look back.
