"Thanks," I took the bottle of water out of his hand and twisted the lid open with my hands in one swift moment. The seal cracked open in an instant, making a loud 'snap' sound.
I took a big swig of it and nearly started crying. I have never tasted water this good before. It was so refreshing, I was completely blown away by it. It wasn't just water as in H2O, it was magical, like the elixir of life from the Fountain of Youth or something.
I ignored the strange looks from Theo and the other people jogging by and continued to gulp my water with immense concentration.
The sun continued to beam down on me, turning my cheeks even redder. Strands of flyway hair were plastered onto the side of my face as beads of sweat rolled down my neck before disappearing into my T-shirt.
Theo diverted his gaze away, looking slightly uncomfortable. He cracked open his water bottle and was taking small sips from it.
I probably looked like a demented person who had just come out of the desert after days of being stranded, but who cared, as far as I was concerned, at this moment in time, the most important thing in my life was this bottle of water and no one was going come between us.
Then, without taking my mouth off the water bottle, I waved at Theo, trying to get his attention. He looked at me in confusion and I immediately made a hand signal motioning for him to come closer. He frowned slightly, unsure of what I was up to but stepped closer. Then I moved my fingers slightly to the left and he moved to the left.
Eventually, I gave him an 'OK' sign with my fingers before relaxing into my newfound shade. It wasn't my fault that he was so tall and happened to make a great parasol. If he was going to stand there anyway then he might as well do something useful.
He glanced around and quickly realised what I had just done. And instead of getting angry or annoyed, he remained where he was. He fumbled around his pockets and took out a bar of chocolate! When he handed it over to me and my eyebrows immediately lifted with excitement. I grabbed the chocolate bar quickly in case he changed his mind and held it tightly in my fist whilst I continued to finish my water.
Chocolate! I was that happy, I almost forgave Theo for all his wrongdoings. He didn't seem like a bad person after all.
I drank the last drop of my water and finally let the bottle go with a degree of sadness. It almost felt like I was suffering from separation anxiety. It even had a beautiful name, "Highland Spring". I could just imagine the beautiful Highlands with a running Spring. If I ever have children, that'll be their names.
"I thought you were trying to set a new world record there." Theo taunted, gracefully tucking into his chocolate bar.
I rolled my eyes at him and tore open the chocolate wrapper. I don't know how he could remain as cool as a cucumber. I took a big bite of my chocolate and spoke with my mouth full, "you know, no one will think you're a mute even if you didn't speak."
He wrinkled his nose at me in disgust and looked away. He was not used to seeing girls being this un-ladylike.
Ignoring him, I nibbled away at the chocolate enthusiastically. This chocolate was simply the best, inside its thick layer of milk chocolate was a coconut filling, whoever came up with the idea was a genius! What's more, there were two separate bars in the pack! I felt like I'd struck gold.
Out of the corner of his eye, he watched me graze away at the outer layer of chocolate like a chipmunk and he couldn't help but smile.
"By the way, what's the dress code for Saturday?" I asked. Not that I was particularly bothered, or trying to impress anyone but I did want to make sure I didn't show up in ripped jeans and a T-shirt whilst everyone else wore dresses.
"Formal," Theo said.
My heart sank a little. How formal was 'formal'? Would I need to wear a ball gown for the occasion? Not that I had a ball gown that I could wear.
"OK," I said and slowly got up from the ground. I dusted the grass off of my zipped up hoodie, I had been sitting on it to avoid getting grass stains all over my jogging bottoms.
Theo sensed I was ready to leave and walked alongside me in silence. It was still quite hot, so I draped the hoodie over my shoulders instead of putting my arms into the sleeves, to save me from carrying it and still managed to get a bit of breeze.
Where was I going to get a ball gown from? I found myself wondering. I could maybe ask Molly if she had one that I could borrow?
"There's a Golden Fish in the river, do you want to go see it?" Theo turned to me and asked.
I had been lost deep in thought and heard myself replying, "Yeah, sure."
What the heck is a Golden Fish anyway? I wondered.
He took me down the footpath that led to the river next to the meadows. And I could see a little stone bridge in the near distance. It was quite a tranquil place. Bluebells and yellow buttercup flowers dotted along either side of the river.
"Look," Theo called out, pointing to something inside the water.
I peered over, making sure I kept a safe distance from the river in case I fell in. I wasn't a bad swimmer but I'd heard of plenty of stories about people drowning whilst swimming in lakes.
"Can you see it? It's right there!" Theo urged.
I continued to stare at the area to which he was pointing. I honestly couldn't see a damn thing.
