But it was only cake! It probably didn't even contain any milk in it! I felt like saying but Theo had already turned his attention to Lottie, who was absolutely hyper by this point.
She buzzed around him like a bumblebee nonstop. One minute she was swinging on his right arm then the next minute she was trying to climb up his leg. Then she started pressing the button on his sporran attempting to prise the pouch open to see what was inside.
Theo grabbed her hand then lifted her into his arms with ease. "Come on Lottie, it's time for you to go to bed."
"NO!" Lottie screamed and she started to kick her little legs in protest, landing a good few in Theo's stomach in the process.
She was wriggling around so much I was a bit worried that Theo might end up dropping her on the floor.
"You have to," Theo said forcefully.
"Itzaria! Itzaria!" Lottie started to cry and she looked at me through big tearful eyes. Her little hand stretched out in my direction pleading for me to save her.
I stood up and before I even had the chance to open my mouth, Theo gave me a warning look as if to say "stay out of it", immediately halting me in my tracks.
"Itzaria is my friend!" Lottie whined, still trying to grab me.
"Stop calling her that, her name is Aria!" Theo corrected.
This seemed to be news to Lottie because she looked momentarily baffled then as if everything she had believed in this world had all came crashing down at once, she started wailing at the top of her lungs, "noooooo!"
"Yes," Theo said firmly, dashing away all her hopes and dreams in an instant.
My eyes darted from the little girl to Theo and back again, uncertain if I should be doing something.
Lottie must've realised all her efforts were futile because she had finally stopped thrashing around and stretched herself into a plank. Her body was stiff as a board forcing Theo to carry her in his arms. He looked like he was holding a small surfboard.
I watched as Theo carried her out of the room and couldn't help but wonder what their relationship was. They must be related then again they looked nothing like each other. Theo didn't bore much resemblance to Cassandra either but you could still tell they were brother and sister just by looking at their mannerisms. Lottie was wild.
I pondered if I should get something else to eat or just head straight up to my room because, to be honest, I didn't know even why Theo bothered inviting me because it wasn't as if he needed me here to do anything, aside from telling me off for feeding Lottie too much cake.
Just as I got to the top of the stairs, in a strange moment of telepathy I casually glanced down to the dance floor and that was when I caught a glimpse of that vaguely familiar sight.
My eyes almost did a double-take. No, it couldn't be. Were my eyes playing tricks on me? Towards the back of the dance floor, bypassing the announcer who was doing a demonstration of the Gay Gordons dance was someone I never thought I'd ever see again.
I held my breath as I began charging down the stairs at full speed. With one hand on the railing to stop me from falling over, my other hand gripped the corner of my dress tightly. My palms were sweating profusely.
Crowds of people gathered onto the dance floor blocking me left, right and centre. I ducked and dived in an attempt to get to the other side of the room but the train of people had joined their hands together for the dance and the Ceilidh band started playing. I was being completely barricaded out of my path, I had no choice but to go around the dance floor whilst praying the person was still there.
My vision started to go blurry as tears were beginning to flood into my eyes uncontrollably. I could barely see where I was going before I crashed straight into a person carrying a full tray of drinks, sending broken glass flying everywhere.
I gasped loudly as ice-cold liquid soaked the front of my dress and I fell onto the floor.
"I'm so sorry," the waitress looked flustered as she bowed her head low to apologise, "are you alright?"
The band had stopped and everyone had turned around to see what was the cause of the crashing sound.
I glanced over to the back of the dance floor and I could no longer see that familiar sight anymore. They were gone. I thought sadly. I felt like someone had just stabbed me in the heart and began to cry. It had been so close and yet so far.
"Miss, are you ok?" The girl asked, reaching out her hand to help me up.
"Leave her alone!" An angry voice barked.
The girl's hands froze in mid-air. We both looked over and I saw Theo angrily pushing past the crowds as he headed over in our direction. He looked like he was about to murder someone.
Oh crap. I think he's coming over to kill me for ruining his sister's party! I panicked.
"Why don't you watch where you were going?!" I heard him shouting.
I kept my eyes on the floor, avoiding any eye contact. But I could see the young waitress' legs were shaking.
"Get out of my house!" He fumed.
Ok, I will. You can stop shouting now. I thought as I placed a hand onto the floor to prop myself off the floor. Little did I know there was a bed of broken shards next to me and the tiny pieces of glass pierced through the skin on my palms. I winced in pain and looked down to see what was going on, only to find my entire hand covered in blood.
