Chapter 23 - Kendra the pirate

Theo gave me one last long hard look before walking away without a word.

His dark eyes were like a bottomless chasm, there was something in them that I didn't recognise. I couldn't read him at all, I couldn't tell what he was thinking of.

Charlie was coming back with a tray between his hands. He saw Theo and his eyes almost popped out of his head. He jumped out of Theo's way and stood up straight like a soldier ready to take orders from his commander-in-chief. If his hands weren't busy, he probably would've saluted him.

"Hi, Theo!" Charlie squeaked, his face turning red and beads of sweat started to form around his forehead.

Theo glanced past Charlie as if Charlie was nothing more than thin air. Without acknowledging his presence, Theo continued to walk out of the cafeteria with a gloomed look on his face.

"Are you guys ok?" Charlie breathed, placing his tray down on our table.

I nodded, slowly recovering from a state of shock. That Theo certainly didn't try to hold back his strength, my chin was still throbbing from his tight clutch. I thought he was going to crush my jaw bone. Then as if just realising what he had done, I started to rub my face vigorously in disgust, not caring whether it was making my skin raw, as long as I managed to rub off every trace of his touch off of my face.

Molly, however, was still stunned. She was gripping onto her carton of strawberry milk for dear life and she must've been squeezing it hard because some of the milk had spilt out through the straw and created a small puddle on the table.

Charlie waved his hand in front of her a few times in an attempt to snap her out of her trance. "Molly? Are you ok?"

She blinked a few times, looking like a child who had just woken up from a bad dream and was about to cry. "Is he away?" Her red rabbit eyes darted around before whispering.

"He's gone now." I reassured her.

"Thank goodness for that," She let out a huge sigh of relief, then in all seriousness, she said, "if he keeps appearing like that I think I'm going to die of a heart attack soon."

She must be really scared of him. I frowned. I'm going to have to have a word with him about that, he can't just show up and scare the hell out of people. I didn't think he was scary or anything. He just looked like someone who had a lot of anger management issues.

"Do you think he'll punish Kendra?" Molly asked.

I shrugged. Who knows? Either way, I wasn't that bothered. I wanted to go check on Aiden. That guy Clifford had finished eating and was getting up ready to leave. There were now a few other Prefects whose faces I didn't recognise at their table but still no sign of Aiden anywhere.

Charlie and Molly were talking about their trips to Switzerland and about how they had seen these cute St. Bernards dogs that carried small whiskey barrels around their necks to rescue stranded travellers.

"They say if you're from Switzerland you either made money or you made chocolate," Charlie said as a matter of factly.

Molly added, "Or you made watches."

"Yup," Charlie agreed.

Charlie's father also worked in the world of Banking. He was a successful Financier for a Private Equity firm whilst his mum was a lady of leisure. According to Charlie, she went to the gym twice a day.

When Charlie was only a first-year in school, the teacher had asked everyone what their mothers did for a living and he answered, "my mum goes to the gym." He still remembers to this day everyone in his class laughing at him.

He also had three younger brothers, all of whom goes to a private boarding school for boys in London.

"See, I told you, half of the men working in Finance are werewolves." Molly nudged at me.

Charlie nodded in agreement, "Yup, it's the perfect profession for werewolves and psychopaths. They all go out drinking during the full moon and recruit others into their pack by biting them, then their pack gets bigger and bigger so that it's easier for them to dabble in insider trading. That's why Banking is so elusive, it's not about what you know but who you know."

Maybe Kendra should get a job in Banking then. I thought sarcastically.

"My Dad had a friend who used to be an Optician but then suddenly one day he became a Banker just like that,". Charlie clicked his fingers. "He was in his mid-thirties at the time."

Molly gave him a knowing look as if to say, "we all know what happened to him, don't we?".

After breakfast, the three of us walked to the first class of the day. History. Who knew we had to learn that. I followed them from behind, partly wondering if we were going to get taught normal history in the sense or if this was going to be special history about werewolves?

As soon as I stepped into the classroom, Kendra looked up from her desk. Her eye red and bloodshot like she had been crying. The reason only one of her eyes looked like that was that on her other eye was an eye patch. It was black and made her look uncannily like a pirate. Several people surrounded her, some were handing her tissues whilst others were trying to comfort her.

She glared at me with anger, then she stood up, the force in her legs pushed her chair away, its legs made a screeching sound along the floor. Then she started marching towards me.

"Where are you going, Miss McCann? Class is about to start." The teacher's voice called before she'd reached me.

Kendra halted in her track.

"The toilet." She answered without looking at him. Her eye was still fixated on me. She gave me an evil growl and then walked past me.

"Please take your seats." The teacher gestured.

I sat down next to Molly. Then behind me, somebody said, "Have you heard? Kendra has been kicked out of Theo's pack? It's all over the school forum."
