Chapter 29 - Detention

Professor Revelwood shot a glance in her direction, his steely eyes icy cold. Kendra immediately realised what she had just said and put her head down like a child who had done something wrong.

What happened to Dr Black? Was she ok now? And how come Kendra seemed to know things? All these questions flooded in all at once.

Dr Black must be like the Headmaster's eyes and ears in the school. She was pretty much a real-life walking lie detector. There were no secrets that could be kept from her unless they were brain dead. Even at that, she could probably still see through their brain activities. A blank white canvas. No wonder Professor Revelwood didn't even bother questioning us, it probably wasn't even worth his time.

"Please proceed to detention." He finally said.

No ifs, no buts. The meeting was over.

Kendra didn't try to argue this time, she haughtily got up from the seat, grabbed her bag and stormed out. I got up too, I wanted to stay behind and ask if Dr Black was ok but Professor Revelwood seemed preoccupied with other things, so I withheld the urge and followed Kendra out of the room.

Professor Revelwood watched the door close. He took off his glasses and squeezed the bridge of his nose to massage the pressure points.

Sarah Black had been one of the brightest and most talented students he has ever had the pleasure of teaching here at Werewolf High. He still remembered to this day when he was first greeted by a young girl with the most unusual sparkling amber eyes. He had never seen anything like it before, they were ethereal like they didn't belong to this world.

The other students didn't appreciate anyone different from them and the girl was bullied mercilessly. But she managed to rise above it all, she had the strength and courage of a young warrior.

Now that girl was lying in the hospital, fighting for her life.

Suddenly Richard Revelwood felt old, and no doubt he looked as old as he felt.

There was a war coming. And these children were nowhere near ready.

Kendra marched ahead without caring if I was still following her or not. As far as she was concerned, it would be even better if she managed to lose me completely and I could find my way to detention. I saw her opening a door and was about to go in. I quickly jogged over and used my arm to block her path.

"What do you want?" Kendra glared at me with contempt, like I was some measly little ant trying to get in her way.

I looked at her and held out my other hand, "journal."

"Get lost," Kendra looked at me in disgust and shoved past me.

I grabbed her arm, pulling her back to face me. I was starting to get angry too, "give it back to me!"

She turned around and her face had transformed to that of a werewolf. She bared her sharp teeth at me threateningly.

I gasped, instantly letting go of my hands.

There was something distinctively awful and shocking about seeing a human girl in a school uniform bearing the head of a wolf. It wasn't normal. It was probably the freakiest thing I have ever seen, made even worse by her wearing a skirt.

Kendra smirked at me, then turned her head towards the front. Her face had resolved back to human form and she walked in with her head held up high like a queen.

The room was just like any other classroom, filled with tables and chairs. There were no teachers in sight. Kendra took a book and a stack of papers from the table and went to sit at a desk by the window.

It wasn't until I had gotten close I realised the 'book' Kendra pick up as the school's code of conduct. It had at least a hundred pages. If we were to write it out a hundred times, it would almost certainly take all night.

I looked over at Kendra, she was already busy copying out the code of conduct. Looks like there was no escaping it. I grabbed a pile of paper and went to sit at a desk as far away from her as possible.

Kendra was the first to finish. She placed her work in a tray then left without a second glance at me.

After I had finished, I felt my wrist was about to fall off. It wasn't just tiring, it was soul-destroying. I could recite the entire school code of conduct off by heart now.

I organised my A4 sheets of paper in a neat pile and placed them in the tray alongside Kendra's. Her handwriting was just like her character, wild and messy. No wonder she wrote so quickly, all the words were joined up together, you could barely make out the words.

I glanced at the timer on my phone, it was almost 8 o'clock. We'd spent the entire day just copying out words. No doubt the cafeteria would be closed by now. Maybe Kendra had been lucky and managed to get something to eat.

I walked out of the room and was surprised to see a tall dark shadow waiting for me in the corridors.

My eyes narrowed when I saw who it was.

"What are you doing here?" I asked through gritted teeth.

Theo had been grinning at me like an idiot. His smile froze halfway across his lips when he heard my words and he looked a bit hurt, but that merely lasted for a second because he quickly recovered and smiled knowingly as if he understood why I was in such a foul mood.

"I heard you were fighting over me!" He said casually.

My eyes almost popped out, what planet was he on? "Excuse me but I was not fighting over you!"

"What were you fighting over then?" He asked.

I couldn't be bothered answering and started walking away.

"Was it this?" He held up something in his hand.

I squinted my eyes towards the object and I felt my jaw drop.

How did he get it?
