It was him!
I felt my breathing quicken and all the blood were rushing to my head making me feel light-headed. I never thought I would see him again. And out of all the places in the world, I never thought it would be here.
He was seated at a table towards the front, next to the window. The morning light directed onto the side of his handsome face creating the effect of a halo, making him seem like a mirage that was completely out of reach.
Mysterious, unattainable and forbidden were the words that came to mind.
Next to him was a beautiful blonde-haired girl with big blue eyes. She was easily the prettiest girl I have ever seen in my entire life. Her skin was smooth like porcelain and her eyes sparkled like the light reflecting off the ocean's surface. She had this incredible aura about her that made people unable to tear their eyes away.
Opposite them were two boys, both broad-shouldered and athletic looking. One of them had brown hair and the other one with blond hair. The brown-haired guy was animatedly telling a story making the rest of them laugh out loud.
But he didn't seem to be joining in on their conversation, he didn't even appear to be listening. He sat with his back straight, his eyes were looking down on as if he was deep in thought. His strong facial features remained motionless.
All of them wore green ties and blazers with gold buttons.
I noticed whilst all the other tables were crammed with people, their table was the least busy, it even had two empty chairs.
Molly must've seen me looking over in their direction because she said in a low whisper, "that table is for Prefects and Head boy and Head Girl only, no one else is allowed to sit there apart from them."
That explains why.
I nodded absentmindedly and began following her across the crowded dining hall.
As we walked past their table, his eyes momentarily glanced up. He saw me and his facial expression changed all of a sudden. He no longer looked bored, his grey coloured eyes widened slightly with surprise. It was the look someone gave when they spotted somebody they recognised in the crowd.
I held my breath, too scared to even breathe. I could tell he recognised me.
The girl next to him also seemed to notice the sudden change in him because she too looked up with curiosity. Her blue eyes travelled up and down my body several times as if trying to assess me, to see if I was of threat to her.
What took only a few seconds felt like an eternity. The other two boys at their table even picked up on it because they too stopped talking and was turning around to see what was going on.
I straightened my back, forcing myself to stand up as tall as I could and carried on walking with as much grace as I could muster, even though on the inside
The girl probably decided I was no competition for her because she finally retracted her gaze and returned her attention to him again. By then, he had already turned away his attention, his face expressionless again.
"Do you know her?" I heard her ask.
"No." He answered, there wasn't a hint of emotion in his voice.
The movements in my feet paused for a second.
How could he say he didn't know me? I thought, feeling quite hurt. If it hadn't because of him I would've still had all members of my family. I wouldn't have been cast out by my father. I wouldn't even need to be here. I would've still been happily travelling around Europe selling potions! I am the best dandelion picker on this side of the hemisphere I'll have you know!
Molly had reached the empty table at the back and was waving frantically at me. "Over here, Aria!"
I quickly picked up the pace and walked over to her. I then placed my tray down on the table and sat down on the chair next to her.
"Is that blonde haired girl the Head girl?" I asked, taking a bite of my pancakes.
She glanced over to see who I was talking about and shook her head, "no, that's Darcey Williams. She's a Prefect. The Head girl is Cassandra McAllister."
"McAllister?" I frowned, "she wouldn't happen to be related to that bully Theo, would she?"
Molly nodded, her eyes full of mischief, "yeah, she's his sister."
I felt my jaw drop. I was shocked, to say the least. "How is that even possible? How did he turn out to be the Devil's spawn?"
She giggled, piercing her milk carton with the straw. "They are like the opposites. Cassandra is like the perfect girl. She's pretty and popular and smart and he is just crazy."
"Who are those guys then?" I asked,
"What? Oh, they're all Prefects. The brown-haired guy that's sitting facing us is Nick, he's Kevin's twin. You remember Kevin, right? And the guy next to him with the blond hair is Philip Lonsdale, he is a violinist prodigy." She said.
"What about the one with the dark hair?" I pretended not to sound like I cared too much.
"That's Aiden Callaghan, he's the heir of the Callaghan Empire. He was in a car accident a few days ago and had been off school. This must be like his first day back. To be honest, we're not even supposed to leave school premises, but the rules obviously don't apply to him because he just gets up and drives off in that flashy car of his whenever he wants."
Car accident? I frowned. His injuries didn't look like it could've been from a car accident. They were knife marks. He had been attacked.
"How do you know all these things." I asked.
She took a long draw of her milk before shrugging her shoulders. "It's easy, I just read the school forum."
"Could you show me how to get on it?" I begged.
"Of course." She grinned.
