"No way." My eyes widened in surprise. Surely she wasn't trying to suggest that...
"Yup," she nodded, her little head bounced up and down, "if you traced back her lineage it's all there, you can't deny it, DNA never lies."
That made a lot of sense now, no wonder she was completely bonkers.
When I was homeschooled I would often wonder what a real school would be like. I saw the other kids wearing nice school uniforms and imagined myself doing the same. Walking to class with my hair tied up in a ponytail, laughing and joking with friends.
Now that I'm here I realised how naive I had been. It was like a completely different ball game and nothing could've ever prepared me for it.
Here it seemed like only the fittest and the strongest will survive. If you even showed a single ounce of weakness you'll get trampled on like a tiny little ant. It was like battling at the Colosseum.
The sound of a bell shrilled in the distance.
People in the cafeteria started tidying away their trays and began filtering out the door.
Molly and I gathered our trays and followed. I wrapped Theo's tie into a tiny little triangle and carefully placed it inside my bag, avoiding getting jam on the rest of my things.
We walked out of the cafeteria and went into the main building. Inside was like a maze, it had huge spiralling staircases with dark red wooden bannisters. The building itself had a unique smell, like an old library or a museum.
The ceilings were made of glass and it allowed the sunlight to directly shine through, creating an ambient environment.
We followed the crowd up the stairs. Once we got to the second floor there was a little dark tunnel. As soon as we walked through it, I found myself standing at the other side of the building, directly facing towards the set of stairs we came from. It was a little flyover.
Every Friday morning the school held an assembly in the main Hall, where the Headmaster and the other school's Head of Department would make announcements and talk about current issues and events.
The hall was divided into two sections, Year 5 students were sat on the left and Year 6 students on the right-hand side. All the Prefects were seated at the front with the Head boy and Head girl.
I must admit, they did look like the perfect role models. In fact, they looked like they could be models, similar to the ones you would see inside a magazine. No wonder they would be chosen to represent the school.
Aiden was sitting amongst the Prefects. A lot of the girls were ogling and giggling giddily around him. Some even paused for longer than necessary as they walked past, flipping their hair over their shoulders as if trying to catch his attention. But he seemed to take no notice. His face was facing forward towards the stadium, the profile of his face was breathtakingly perfect. On one side of him was the same brown-haired boy from the cafeteria, Nick Revelwood and on the other side of him was Darcey Williams again.
Are they always together? I wondered, following Molly towards the left side of the room.
I noticed some of the students were pointing at me and whispering to each other. I couldn't hear what they were saying but this continued until Molly and I reached our seats at the back of the room.
The two girls in front of us turned around to stare at me.
I looked at them uncomfortably. What were they looking at? I wondered.
"Hey, are you the girl from the cafeteria?" One of them asked excitedly.
I looked at her, uncertain if I knew what she'd meant.
"Did you really kiss Theo McAllister?" Her friend with dark hair asked.
"What?" I felt my eyes nearly popping out of their sockets. I shook my head in an uncontrolled manner, "no...no!"
"Everyone's saying they saw him grabbing you across the table and kissed you. Passionately." Her friend added.
I stared at her with bewilderment. That was categorically not true. He didn't kiss me! Yes, he grabbed me and then he threatened me!
"Yeah, and afterwards he gave you his tie as a token of his love. And you accepted it." The girl said, plunging in the final dagger.
I was shocked beyond words. It was as if someone had just thrown a hand grenade at me and exploded over my head.
Was that what it looked like to people? That he kissed me?!
Seeing my stunned expression, they giggled before turning back to face the front.
The Headmaster had already begun to speak, "Good morning everyone, welcome to our weekly assembly, it is a special one today as it falls on the day of the full moon..."
I turned to Molly, who had a similar shocked look on her face and whispered, "what's the deal with the tie thing?"
Just as I thought her eyes couldn't stretch any wider, she surprised me by doing so. "It's a well-known school tradition for the boys to give their ties to the girls they liked on the day of the full moon..."
What?!
She must've seen the hatred in my eyes because she stopped and gulped.
"...As many of you will know, there will not be any usual classes today but a special one that focuses on the events of tonight. Both years will join together..." The Headmaster continued.
That Theo is a freaking moron! I gritted my teeth together. I could kill that idiot!
Then I recalled the cold look Aiden gave me once Theo had let go of me. He must've thought the same thing as everyone else, I thought depressingly.
"...Remember children, each and every single one of you is special. And that Lycanthropy is the light. The way. The truth. And the future." He paused, "the future is bright. I bid you all a good day and may tonight be special for each and every one of you."
