By the time we got to the school's iron-wrought gates, it was already nightfall. I barely had the chance to look around the school grounds before Dr Sarah Black decided to take me straight up to the girl's dormitory, citing I needed to get some rest after the eventful day I've had.
I followed her in silence, thinking that it was probably one of the best things about being around a mind reader, you never need to utter a single word and she already knew what was on your mind.
We walked up two flights of stairs before stopping in front of a closed wooden door. She knocked on it a few times and a small girl with dark hair and glasses opened the door.
"Hello Molly," Dr Sarah Black said.
"Dr Black! Hello!" The girl squeaked, looking around frantically like a rabbit caught in the headlights. She had not been expecting any visitors since she was already changed into her pink pyjamas and on her feet were two white and pink bunny-shaped slippers.
"Don't worry, you haven't done anything wrong. This is Aria Brown, she's going to be your new roommate." Dr Sarah Black introduced, she then turned to me, "Aria, this is Molly Tobin. It's quite late now but tomorrow Molly will show you where to collect your school uniform and take you around the school. Is that ok?"
Molly and I both nodded.
"Ok then, good night girls, sleep well. I'll see you two in the morning." She said.
"Good night." Molly waved. After she closed the door, she turned around and patted her chest a few times as if trying to calm her heartbeat down. "Phew...I thought Dr Black was going to give me trouble for doing badly in the class test. "
I glanced around, the room contained two single beds on either side with a desk at each end of the bed. Molly's side was filled with books, clothes and cuddly toys, everything was pink, even her bed covers were pink with big love hearts on them. On the centre of her messy desk was a pink picture frame that contained the photo of a cute little dog, its head was tilted towards one side and it was looking up at the camera with big adoring eyes with its little pink tongue stuck out.
"Oh, that's my dog Pixi," she explained. "We're not allowed to bring pets here, otherwise I would've brought her too."
"She's cute," I said, walking over to the empty bed on the left side of the room, and dumped my bag on the white sheets.
Molly came over to sit on her bed opposite mine and dangled her feet back and forth, the bunny ears on her slippers flopped up and down as a result.
"Would you like help with anything?" She asked, clearly noticed the sling on my arm.
I glanced over my shoulders and saw her giving me a huge smile.
The girl had the most infectious smile, it was bursting with energy, like a sunflower that chased away the darkness. She couldn't be farther away from the image of a werewolf, she looked quite bunny-like, especially with those long eyelashes and slightly oversized upper central incisor teeth of hers.
"No thanks, I'm fine," I said.
There wasn't much to unpack, I took out a clean change of clothes and before I even had the chance to ask, she pointed to the door to her left. "The bathroom is through there."
"Thanks," I said.
"Have you had your transformation yet?" She asked curiously.
I shook my head.
"Me neither. We'll have to get you the brown coloured tie tomorrow then." She must've seen the confused look on my face, because she quickly explained, "the pupils who have had their transformations wear the green coloured tie and the ones who haven't wear the brown coloured one." She then lifted her brown coloured tie as if to demonstrate.
I frowned, feeling myself getting angry.
Why would they do this?! It's bad enough that I already feel subconscious about not having my transformation, why would I now have to wear a big sign on my neck to tell the whole world that I'm inferior to everyone else, that I'm not a true werewolf?!
"Are you a Pureblood or Half-blood?" She asked.
"Excuse me?" I asked.
She must've thought I didn't understand her question because she then rephrased it, "are both of your parents werewolves or just one of them is a werewolf?"
"I'm half-wolf," I grumbled.
"Hahaha, you mean werewolf, right?" She giggled, her laughter sounded like little wind chimes, crisp and clear, utterly contagious.
I found myself giggling along with her, momentarily forgetting about the pain in my arm, it didn't even seem to hurt as much. I felt happier than I had been all day as if the heavy load on my chest suddenly had been lifted.
Once her laughter subsided, I too stopped laughing and looked into her eyes. They were of a warm brown colour that reminded me of melted chocolate, sweet and comforting.
I stood up, breaking away from her gaze.
"What did you just do to me?" I asked.
She looked up in surprise and blinked a few times, "what do you mean?" She asked innocently, as though butter wouldn't melt in her mouth.
"Well, my arm didn't all of a sudden just heal by itself, so what did you do? How did you manage to take the pain away?" My tone of voice was harsh.
"Didn't Dr Black mention it to you? I'm a Healer. I help people to heal their pain." She looked slightly embarrassed.
That was not what I was expecting. The feeling of guilt washed over me all of a sudden, I didn't know what I was thinking accusing her like that. Dr Black must've seen how hurt I was, therefore deliberately partnered me up with her, knowing perfectly well that Molly would be able to 'heal' me.
I walked into the bathroom feeling numb and as soon as the door closed behind me, the pain in my arm restarted again, but that was nothing compared with the pain in my chest, it felt like someone was stabbing at it with a blunt knife.
When I came out of the bathroom, Molly was lying flat on her stomach in bed, flipping through a magazine.
"I'm sorry..." I began, struggling to find the right words to say, but she quickly cut me off.
"It's ok, don't worry about it. We're roommates now!" Her voice was light and airy, like a warm breeze that travelled across the room.
She smiled at me and I felt all the pain in my body disappeared.
