Chapter 3 - Chapter two

Minutes passed which honestly felt like days since I've been lying on the floor, I decided to get up and search for shelter.

The night grew colder and darker by the minute, the moon rose between the branches of the trees, giving practically no extra light, I had almost given up hope of finding shelter until my eyes caught a glimpse of a piece of paper on the wall of an alley, I walked up to it and read it, a surge of hope rose within me, without thinking I sprinted to the location on the piece of paper fortunately for me it wasn't too far from where I was, when I arrived my finger tips and nose where numb from the cold, I took a moment to catch my breath then scanned the area for the number on the address, finally I saw a coffee shop it wasn't much just a small building with a few tables and chairs and, I opened the door to the shop the smell of fresh coffee filled my nose it reminded me of home how I would wake up every morning to the smell of freshly brewed coffee and the sight of my mother in the kitchen making breakfast and my dad sitting on the couch with a cup of coffee in one hand and newspaper in the other, a tear escaped from my eye thinking that the life I have grown to love so much was over.

I walked up to the counter, behind it was a guy with sandy blond hair and brown eyes not more than a year older than I am, when he noticed me he flashed me a polite smile I managed to give a small one in return.

"Welcome to Dave's coffee shop how may I help you?"

"can i talk to the manager?" I asked

"sorry he is not here at the moment but if you wait I'm sure you will be able to talk to him" he said with the same smile. Although I was a little disappointed but I didn't want to seem rude taking it out on him, so I forced a smile and pointed at a table at the far corner of the room.

"Do you mind if I wait over there?" I asked unsure, he shook his head in response, "not at all, would you like anything?"

I checked my pockets for spare change but I found nothing, I checked my wallet still found nothing, my cheeks were pink with embarrassment knowing he saw how broke I am.

"no I'm good ill just...." I bent my head so my hair will cover my pink stained cheeks and conceal my embarrassment, "I'll just wait" I decided to sit and patiently wait.

It's been hours since I've got here and still no sign of the manager, I was beyond starving and exhausted, I needed to do something to get my mind off the hunger, I took my phone from my pocket to see if I have been left any emails, nothing as usual, I sighed and rested my head on the table out of exhaustion and decided to close my eyes for a minute.

I felt a hand on my shoulder but I was just too sleepy to see who it was, the hand gently shook my shoulder again this time accompanied by a voice, "excuse me ma'am its nine o'clock" he said

Still in a daze I adjusted myself to a more comfortable position and asked "so what?" he just let out a little laugh "you are in a coffee shop and we are closed for the day" my head immediately shot up from the table "oh my gosh I'm so sorry I forgot" he smiled and made a gesture towards the side of his mouth "you have a little something over here" I quickly used the back of my hand to get rid of the slight drool that escaped my mouth, seriously? this is so embarrassing "thanks" he just nodded in response, then I remembered the reason why I came here, I cleared my throat "did your boss come back when I was asleep?"

"I'm afraid not, but he will definitely be here tomorrow" he said to assure me but he has no idea that I might be dead before tomorrow, I basically have no shelter, food or money.

After saying goodbye i stepped out into the cool night with nothing but a thin t-shirt with mid-length sleeves, baggy jeans and a pair of worn-out shoes, soon, I was chilled to the bone.
