CHAPTER SIX
I hung my head low and trying to conceal the bitter expression that had formed on my face, "thankyou sir" I said as I got up to take my leave then I remembered something,
"I'm sorry for the way I acted earlier, I was desperate that's all" I said, he nodded, "no problem I'm also sorry, i don't always act like that you just happened to be there during one of my episodes"
I cracked a tiny smile I know how it feels like to be in a bad place too "I'll just be on my way then" my voice cracked as I spoke I grabbed the knob harder than I should have opened the door and left as the door was about to close I heard a "wait" I stopped and looked at him "do you really need this job?" he asked, I eagerly nodded my head "yes more than anything" I didn't realize tears had escaped from my eyes, he looked at me and sighed, "we have one more spot, it isn't much but it's all we've got", I walked towards him and look him in the eye "anything I'll do anything" he took two steps away from me "ok all you have to do is clean, Pete's not really good at those type of stuffs so since you are a lady I figured you would be perfect for the spot" I ignored the sexist comment and release a big smile he looked at me like I was the weirdest person on the planet "THANK YOU,THANK YOU, THANK YOU SO MUCH YOU WOUN'T REGRET IT I PROMISE!!" he shook his head amused at my behavior, he furrowed his eyebrow,
"I don't think you got what I said, I said you will clean this shop every day, its wasn't like I offered you ten million dollars" he said laughing towards the end, he didn't know that at this point any job even though it was cleaning public toilets felt like luxury to me,
"I heard you, l heard you loud and clear sir!!"
"wow" was all he said
"so when can I start" I asked, all of me wished he would say right now, he put his hands in his pockets and said "you can start right now" I almost jumped for joy on that same spot but I resisted I didn't want to look crazier to him "yes sir no problem" I turned and literally ran out and then I remembered I have no idea where the cleaning equipment's are, I walked back to the office and give out a nervous laugh " umm I don't know where the equipment's are" he laughed a little "with the way you left I didn't think you'd need them"
I scratched the back of my head "I just got a little excited" my cheeks turned pink,
"of course you did" it turned even pinker "I mean who gets that excited over this type of offer" he murmured, I wanted to say someone who's homeless, jobless, and who hasn't had a proper meal in days but I kept my mouth shut instead I smiled,
He shrugged "well what you're looking for is in a room at the back of the building,
"thank you sir" I said and began to leave when he called me back,
"what's your name again?" he asked,
"Leah, Leah O'Connell" with that I left with a smile on my face, the only thing that kept ringing in my head was I have a fucking job.
