Alexander observed the facial expression of Isabella. Her eyes were wide and mouth agape. Then slowly her eyebrows furrowed together and a frown appeared. Her eyes twitched a bit and then it stopped.
"Yes I am a king, but I am also a worrier. I lead people and protect too."
"I feel bad."
"I apologize Isabella. It was improper. But you respect your king. And we, humans, tend to court our females before marriage."
"Court?"
"Court, courtship or courting happens between a male and female before they marry. They spent their time together and see what they are like."
"D-do you not want to marry?"
"Of course I do."
"Then courting?"
"We humans are different. We marry one we do not know about. That is why we court them before marry. Also, I believe you love all those short moments we had alone. That may have not done if I would have told you I am the king."
"It may have."
"Humour me, Isabella. You keep your head down when you stand in front of the king. You are not at ease with king Alexander. And also, I am your Xander. I suggest you call me that."
"Okay."
"Very well. Now, follow me, I want to show you something."
Alexander was glad the things turned out. He didn't want to handle the situation. It may have turned on another side. Besides, he has never seen her but wolves are angry.
He leads her through a secret passage and brought her to his personal weapon room. It was filled with various swords, bows, arrows, lances, spears, axes, daggers, etc. Some were hanging on the wall while some were placed on the table.
Isabella was lost for words. They all were shiny and new to her. With a happy glint in her eyes and a grin, she slowly roamed her hand over them. She could feel the eyes of her mate but she ignored them and continue watching them.
"Isabella, come here."
Alexander asked her to join him at the small window which was facing his practicing men. This was the very spot from where he sometimes spent his time observing some of his men when he didn't felt like going to the field for practice. Or when he takes a break between his practicing hours. He has spent much of his time practicing alone and now he has someone to teach his skills to while keeping his new student hidden till the time comes.
"Look at them. I say the one who is bigger will win. What do you think?"
"Anyone can win. Doesn't matter who is bigger. What matters is who is calm. When you act quickly, you can be easily taken down that is why my father told me to always stay calm and discuss with your pack before attacking. One has to die so the other could live. We are short they are big. We are just like that we cannot control it but what we can control is if we lose or we die. That is why it does not matter what matters that one of us dies and we always think before attacking and maintain our cool."
"So you are saying that the other one, the one shorter in size, can kill the bigger one?"
"Yes. It's not about who is big it is about who is quick."
"True. Trued indeed, Isabella. Truth indeed."
Alexander didn't know what he was thinking when he asked the question but the answer was indeed correct. It was not about size. Anyone bigger in size can be defeated if their weakness is found and the same goes for the one smaller in size. The difference in height explains who has a higher chance of winning but with the wittings, skills and other things are also an important factor.
Now that information showed him how to teach her. He does not have to teach her all the things. He has to teach her smartly.
Girls avoid the events which contain fights and maintain a distance. Few girls who attend usually talk about looks or someone who is related or known to them. But even after that, they prefer supporting someone known to them an answer like the one she gave was not expected. Then again, his Isabella never gives him an expected answer.
One thing which he was sure of now, she was not of a weak heart but only weak by the knowledge. He will work on the knowledge to keep her safe. And she will work to keep her people safe.
Isabella slowly turned her head sidewards when she felt eyes on her. They belong to Alexander. His eyes showed pride, amusement, a little bit of surprise, and some affection. It was a perfect combination for Isabella.
She smiled looking at Alexander but suddenly it turned into a frown.
"You do not know? My father told this to my brothers after they had their first hunt."
That did it. Alexander couldn't look at her anymore. He just voiced out his thoughts and to tell her something which she didn't know about. He wanted to get a chance to show off his knowledge and to teach her some ruling facts. But it appears he has to stop asking such questions because her answers are just as better as his if not better.
"I want to see if you know."
"My father says, a leader knows best. Then why do you want to see?"
"Because you are going to be a leader too. You are my mate. Besides, female humans do not know."
"Oh..."
"Alright, Isabella. Allow me to introduce you to archery... This is a bow and this is an arrow. Now, always keep in mind that the sharp point of the arrow should always be pointed towards the one you want to hurt or kill. Try to not let this side touch you. Ever. And if one is coming in your direction, you get down or somewhere else so it will not hurt you.
1. Now, you hold the wooden side of the bow strongly in your hold. No matter what, never let it slide or go, your grip should always be strong.
2. Now, you place the less pointy end of the arrow towards yourself and pull it backward along with the string. Pull it as back as you can.
3. Now, you place your eyes straight and aim towards whoever you want to hurt. Now listen, this is not for fun. This kills.
Now, your turn."
Alexander expected her to have some problems in pulling the strings. The strings were made tight and newcomers usually are unable to pull it to the full extent but she did. He observed how she took the same stance which he took before shooting the arrow.
"You did very well seeing it is your first time but you have to aim it properly. Allow me to show you.
1. Position your first finger above the arrow and middle and ring finger below the arrow. Just like you did before.
2. Lightly push with your hand while keeping your elbow turned away so that the string won't be rubbing your forearm once you've loosed the arrow. Like you did.
Good. You are doing good.
3.Now, from this point on, your shoulders should be relaxed.
4. At the same time, raise your bow hand and pull your string hand towards your face, like this. Alright?
5.Your string hand should be beneath your chin, the string aligned with your nose and chin. But don't be too close so you can shoot easily.
6.Use your bow hand to aim the scope on your sights at the exact point where you want to hurt. Nowhere else. Only where you want to hurt.
7. Now, stay relaxed and aim and all you've got to do is now lose the string. Which is where you missed it.
So, focus.
8. Let it slide out while pulling your hand back horizontally along your neck so that the string naturally escapes from your fingers.
See. Now, the more relaxed you are during your shot, the more successful you will be. You can do it very nicely now practice hard. I will come back in few minutes."
"Okay."
Alexander was observing Isabella. She was excited when she knew that she was going to learn it. He expected her to have some issues and also a little problem in relaxing her since she was so enthusiastic but the moment he told her to relax she did. It wasn't required to tell her to focus. She focused completely on what he was teaching her.
He is going to introduce her to the world no other female has ever seen. The world which contains blood. The one where you hurt others and others hurt you. The world where one has to die for another to live. It was never an easy path but someone has to do it. He is the only leader his people currently have. And he needs someone to be present in his absence.
Maybe, his new student won't give him much trouble and learn everything he will teach her. It will be just the use of the weapon and reading. He has a feeling other things will come naturally.
