Timeline and Calender

Prehistory:

Humanity once roamed the cosmos unfettered, and by their own hands found their ultimate demise. Some great and endless dreamer, loathe to lose all the wonder and even the horror they wrought, remade their kind upon the triplet worlds Deorcine, Opalus, and Venavia.

Known history is broken down by specifically identifiable periods. The greater expanses are the Epochs. Each epoch is broken into 4 Eras and each Era is broken into 4 Ages, and each Age is broken down by the millennia of each.

1 Dawning Epoch

Year 0 to 10,000

The emergence of sentient mortals into a period of turmoil and change. These new creatures saw growth and development unlike any the species ever knew in all its natural existence, and so were birthed the other races in time.

2 Epoch of Fledging Foundations

Year 10,000 to 20,000

The races of the world formed simple societies and tribal groups, at last able to survive as more than mewling babes in the harsh homes they awoke in. They learned, grew, and developed tools and technology to meet their simple needs.

3 Untempered Epoch

Year 20,000 to 30,000

The mortals developed well and learned to more adequately thrive within their environments, but squabbling over petty differences lead to a time of constant warfare in efforts to achieve dominance in ideals and other immature desires for power and acclaim. Technology of war became prevalent, and so at the end of the last era the mortals regressed into violent isolationists.

4 Epoch of Auspicious Hand

30,000 to 40,000

The first epoch of true peace, as wrought by the misguided benevolence of the dragon king Bahamut, first son of Fascinius. Bahamut, against the will and caution of his father, claimed the world of Deorcine as his own and taught his new children of the Spirits and Sovereign. Under his guidance the worlds learned better the ways of magic. A boom of arts and science spread across the lands and true cultural and ethical identity took form among the peoples therein.

5 Epoch of the Clamorous Adolescent

Year 40,000 to 100,000

The individual identities of each world and nation saw rise again to petty differences and disputes between the peoples and more divisive means of attack were employed against enemies and allies alike. Espionage and secretive actions meant to turn neighbors against one another became the norm, and cruelty bred in mortal hearts as never before. So rose the Sovereign Rothacal upon the world Deorcine and began a period of unrest. For thousands of years Bahamut and his followers fought against Rothacal and his endless demon hordes until at last, with the help of the dragon Rhenendon, Bahamut cast the wretched devil back into its abyssal prison. Deorcine was left a desolate world, its people shunned for the atrocities wrought by their ancestors. However, the peoples of Venavia and Opalus failed to learn from the mistakes of their devastated kin while establishing their own ideals and national identities, and the warring continued. Bahamut, seeing what his meddling caused, vowed to never again take charge in the affairs of the mortals and forbade dragonkind from ever again ruling in their stead.

6 Blossoming Epoch

Year 100,000 to 250,000

The early era of the Blossoming Epoch saw the rise and fall of nations as wars still raged, but enlightenment came at last to the peoples of the worlds and the time of war ended. Some squabbling continued throughout the coming eras but by the end of the epoch the worlds saw at last a unification and integration of spiritual ideals and ethical reason, the precursor to true progress.

7 Primus Epoch

Year 250,000 to 400,000

Cautioned by a long history of mistakes and suffering, peace once more settled over the mortal worlds. The people continued to grow and change as their magical and mechanical technologies rapidly advanced. A near obsessive focus on peace keeping and cultural ideals took root in arts and entertainment of every kind. The late era saw the inflation of pretensions and ego, and the epoch ended as self serving corruption again began to spread.

8 Epoch of Crisis Kings

Year 400,000 to 800,000

War returned to the worlds, more violent than ever before. Mammon, the true patron of necromancers, unable to rise upon the mortal plain, hid unreckoned within mortal hearts, whispered his curses of corruption and so poisoned many kingdoms of Venavia against one another until at last they ruined themselves and their lands evermore. Entire nations and their histories were lost, peoples set adrift, and regions made uninhabitable by any but the most horrific of unholy things. The first necromancers wrought their terrible power and it was only through unification and ages of conflict that the goodly among the remaining peoples were able to end the threat to all living things. Opalus shut itself from the other worlds to protect the sanctity of their verdant and peaceful lands and so developed adjacent to the struggles of Venavia and the sad pockets of persistent life on Deorcine.

9 Epoch of the Ponderous Sage

Year 800,000 to Present (~907000)

The worlds have at last settled again and few occurrences of war rise. Unity and mindfulness of the Consortium have kept peace among the greater nations and progress has again become the focus of the mortal heart.
