The coronation ceremony consisted of three segments, each of which represented a different part of the King becoming devoted solely to Killia. These segments were called the Three Rites, and needed to be performed perfectly in order for the coronation to be blessed by the witnesses and magistrates. Calluna had rehearsed them to herself several times the night before the event, and a handful more as she sat in silence.
The first rite was the rite of blood, then came the rite of mind, and it finished with the rite of soul.
She ran over the procedures in her mind repeatedly as she sat in the enclosed space. The bustling of the servants preparing the final touches prevented her from being entirely alone with her thoughts… but everything else about the situation saddled her with anxiety.
