In this world, Pokemon centres had more roles than just healing Pokemon and giving trainers a place to rest. It also was the place where one can sell and resources.
In a way, it was an exchange center.
A Pokemon centre will buy everything that was legal and they welcomed stuff like TMs, Pokemon eggs and evolutionary stone more than anything.
That's why, Arthur with a ground type TM was treated really respectively by Nurse Joy. She knew that even if he didn't decided to sell the TM to them, he was still going to get it analysed.
Even getting a TM analysed cost more than 200 poke dollars normally.
It means that Arthur was a valuable customer and she needed to treat him respectfully. On the other hand, Arthur didn't care much about it.
His whole mind was thinking about what kind of move his TM contains. He was secretly hoping for a move like an earthquake which had a high attack power of 100 and perfect accuracy.
If he really got his hands on the earthquake, then he would be able to easily sell it for around 7000 poke dollars at the least.
"So, you want to analyse your TM?"
As he was thinking, they reached an inner room which looked more like a lab. One of the men inside the room, wearing a lab coat, came forward and asked Arthur as he saw the TM in his hands.
"Yeah, I think this is a ground type TM."
"Let me see."
The lab coat wearing man took the TM from his hand and squinted his eyes to look at it. Nurse Joy left the room at that moment, leaving Arthur and the man alone.
"For some reason, it's harder to install a ground type move inside a TM. That's why ground type TMs are rarer than the TMs of the other types. You are lucky that you got your hands on one of these TMs."
The man walked up to a machine while talking.
He didn't say his name or any other stuff, but Arthur was able to get a few things out of the stuff he was blabbering, mainly about TMs.
After that, Arthur paid 200 poke dollars which was the last of the money he had and the man started scanning the TM to know what kind of move it contained.
'I will need to get some money before moving to Mount moon.'
Arthur worried about his finances while waiting for the analysing of the TM.
It was hard for him to have a lot of money as a rookie trainer and the only way was to have more and more battles. Thankfully, it won't be too hard as there were already quite a few trainers in the Pokemon center and he was also famous now, so finding someone to battle wasn't going to be a problem.
Moreover, he would get a handsome amount of money if he managed to defeat Brock.
That was one of the attractions of gym battles.
A gym battle was different from ordinary battles and it favoured the challengers in certain ways. One of those was a simple rule called 'No paying rule'.
Under this rule, a challenger didn't need to pay any money even if he lost, but if he won, then there would be a handsome prize. This rule was adopted by the alliance 10 years ago to favour the trainers more and to encourage them to take part in gym battles.
Ding!
Suddenly, there was a sound from the TM scanner.
The scanning was complete and under Arthur's astonished eyes, every information about the TM was displayed on the screen.
"Dig! It's actually digging!!" Arthur said in amazement as he looked up at the information.
Dig was one of the most useful moves and a variety of Pokemon are able to use it. That's why, it's value was high among TMs and many people would buy it without hesitation.
After all, not only does it have great power, it can also be used in various other ways.
"You are really lucky, young man! It's really rare to get your hand on a dig. Many top trainers will pay a lot of money for it." The lab coat wearing man also exclaimed in amazement.
He knew that Arthur was soon gonna be rich and the man was also happy cause he would be able to get a bit of commission if he managed to convince Arthur to sell the TM to the Pokemon center.
"So, are you gonna sell the TM? Pokemon centre will give you around 6000 poke dollars for that TM. If you decided to sell it to us, we would even return the money that you spent on analysing the TM...."
"No thanks."
Arthur suddenly interrupted the man as he was speaking and shook his head.
Although he had decided to sell the TM earlier, his plans had changed since the TM had turned out to be dug.
"Huh? I thought you were gonna sell the TM?" The man asked, baffled by the blunt rejection.
"I was going to, but I don't want to now."
"If it's about the price, then we can nego–"
"It's not that. Sorry, I'm just not interested in selling my TM now."
The man tried to convince him to sell the TM, but Arthur was firm in his rejection. No matter what price the man gave him, he would reject it.
Arthur knew that the man was trying to convince him so hard because of the commission, but there was no way he was gonna lose out on a move like digging for money.
He can get money later, but there was no saying if he would get his hands on another dig TM.
In the end, he can just say sorry to the lab coat wearing man.
Commission? You can just forget about it.
The reason Arthur even decided not to sell the TM was because it was the thing that he needed the most currently, before going into a gym battle.
Yes, instead of selling it, he decided to use the TM on Charmander.
