With the systems explanation fresh in his mind, Luck was trying to focus his thoughts when the workshop doors opened up.
A platoon of 30 armed soldiers entered the small area in a neat and orderly line. Each soldier was carrying a rifle in their hands at the low ready position and had a sheathed sword at the waist.
The entire platoon was wearing a lightweight body armor that was matte black in color that covered all their vital spots. Their faces were hidden behind a reflective visor attached to their helmets. There were a few distinguishing features to separate the soldiers besides their height and general body shape.
On the chest plate near the middle, a symbol representing their rank could be seen. Then up and to the left was their name. On the right shoulder guard was a emblem that looked like a bloodshot eyeball with a crimson red pupil.
The platoon sergeant despite having noticed the duo at the start didn't show any hostile intent towards them at all. He was calm and efficiently issuing orders to the soldiers with him.
As the platoon entered the door they broke down into 6 man squads before heading in different directions. The platoon sergeant however made a hand gesture and 2 other soldiers fell in behind him as he started walking towards the pair of kids in the room.
Luck couldn't help but admire the discipline the soldiers displayed, plus he was happy they didn't come in guns blazing or pointing their weapons at him.
Thanks to Yuki's little machines cannibalizing all the corpses, there wasn't even a trace of the earlier massacre left. Who knows what their reaction might have been finding 2 kids standing there in the midst of all that. Luck was currently thankful for how versatile those little machines were.
"Just relax Yuki, this is what we were waiting on." Luck says this internally remembering that his system could read see his thoughts.
Yuki felt a little amused that Luck was trying to comfort her but right now she was trying and failing to see what the soldiers were thinking. Each and every one of the soldiers had a small energy field around them that made it hard for her to see the fine details of their energy flow because of all the energy in the background. It was like finding a needle in a haystack and she quickly lost interest in it.
The lead soldier then took his rifle and handed it to one of the guys that followed him over, before pulling off his helmet. What Luck had assumed was a man was in fact a woman, he couldn't tell that before because the body armor she was wearing.
The soldier was about 6 feet tall, with short dirty blond hair and blue eyes that had a few wrinkles around the corners. Her face was slightly above average and you could see she had a few laugh lines.
While checking out the soldier Luck thought she might be around 30 years old and he felt that she gave off a friendly vibe. Overall she was just a smidge above average appearance wise in his opinion.
"Hey you two, my name is SGT Denny. Are you kids alone in here?" She asks while looking at Luck, she's trying to determine if he's a boy or a girl, honestly she thought they were both girls from the distance. Now that she's a little closer she can see his face does have some masculine features, but she still doesn't have a firm guess as to the gender. Then she looks at Yuki and while she is confident this ones female there's a nagging feeling in her gut that something doesn't seem quite right with her either.
"Hi my names Luck and this is my twin sister Yuki, we were told to stay here for a while till things settled down, we have been here for a while but as far as I know we are the only two here." Luck answers cheerfully.
"Oh, is that right? Well nice to meet you Luck and Yuki. I am here to help evacuate the base you see, there's a emergency and we need to get you guys out of here. Im going to send you two back to the ship and you can find your parents there ok?" SGT Denny then gestures to the two soldiers that came with her while retrieving her weapon.
"These two will take you back to the ship where all the others are waiting, please quickly follow them as we are in a hurry. Once your at the ship your parents can explain everything to you, do you understand?"
Seeing that the kids nodded their agreement she takes one final look at the duo and her eyes linger on Luck for a moment before spinning on her heel and re-equipping her helmet she quickly walks away towards another group of soldiers.
In her mind she's still trying to figure out if the long haired one named Luck was a girl or not. Knowing this was going to trouble her if she never found out she resolved herself to find the doc later and ask him about the duo.
The two soldiers she had assigned to escort them get into position with one in front and one behind, so that Yuki and Luck are in the middle before they start moving back towards the ship hanger.
"I got to say that went a lot better than I expected." Luck says to Yuki using their shared connection.
[System - It would seem we are not the only ones they have run across, when we get to the others there might be some who recognize you. So try to keep a low profile. In any event you don't need to worry too much, I can take care of them in case the situation gets out of hand.]
As Luck was thinking about what exactly Yuki would do if somebody recognized him, he remembered what happened to Humpty. While he knew the general information about her capabilities, and he was sure if it came down to a fight she could take care of herself. He was probably going to be liability that would hold her back at least until he got stronger.
The escort made it back to the ship hanger without incident and Luck's worry's were for naught because they didn't encounter anybody and the only people in the hanger were soldiers. One of his escorts approached the door guards and let them know he had brought two more refugees that needed to be taken to the medical bay and housed.
The guards helmets had a built in communicator and soon another person came up to the Twins telling them "they were going to be taken to the medical bay for a check up and that this was just standard procedure to make sure everything was alright," before indicating that they should follow him.
This guard guided them along in silence and the ship was actually a lot bigger than Luck had thought because it took them about 15 minutes to get to their destination. Once they arrived to a door that had a pair of serpents coiling around a staff with wings at the tip which was a common medical symbol in Lucks old life he knew they had reached their destination.
As the door slid open, he could see it was a large open area bigger than the biomechanics workshop and there are rows of beds and a variety of different medical devices set up beside each bed. One big difference Luck noted was that the air quality was a lot better here than inside the rest of the ship. Just breathing it in reminded him of a hospital back on earth.
A older man, wearing a white uniform with the same caduceus that Luck has seen on the door came up to their escort. After exchanging a salute the soldier did a crisp about face and went back outside the doors leaving the duo alone.
"Hello there, you two can just call me Doc. We're going to do a couple of tests alright? This is all standard procedure to make sure your not sick, even if your feeling fine there's things out there that don't affect the person immediately but will spread to others and if it's left untreated it can turn into a serious problem for everyone, do you understand the situation your in?"
"Sure Doc, we understand". Luck responded for the both of them. He was a little worried about what the testing would find but as long as they used a machine of any sort them Yuki could control the outcome. Also seeing that she hadn't beheaded the man yet must mean that everything was already within her expectations
Doc nods his head and gives them a friendly smile.
"That's great that you understand, follow me. This won't take long at all and then we can get you two settled in."
He leads them over to one of the vacant beds and gestures that they should take a seat. Luck hops up right away and Yuki after a moment sits down next to him, their legs are touching and Luck thought she would be hard and cold feeling like a machine but she was actually soft and warm like a normal girl. He doesn't have long to think about it because Doc pulls closed a curtain around the bed and is ready to start the exam.
