With Doc leading the way, they come to a small bed and on it a female was laying down unresponsive. Wearing a white gown, she had a blanket that was pulled up to her chest with a bunch of wires snaking out from underneath it leading to a machine. She was laying there unmoving with lifeless eyes that blankly stared at the ceiling.
What stood out to Luck though was her hazel eyes. The pupils are vertical like a cat, and her eyes seemed too large for her face. Apart from that, as best he could tell from looking at her, she could die any minute now. Her skin was deathly pale and her face was gaunt. What hair she had was patchy and thin with bald spots showing in places where it had fallen out.
The hair itself was a lilac color and if she was in good health maybe she might be attractive but right now she looked as if her soul would linger around and thank the person who put her out of her misery. He was sure she must have been wasting away, just waiting for death to claim her for quite some time already.
Sitting next to the bed was the same type of machine that Luck had just used. The Colonel and Doc both walk up to the machine, then Doc starts messing with the controls so they could look over the girls current status.
After getting a good idea of her situation from the screen, Doc walks over and tells Luck "she has a shattered spine from the neck down resulting in total paralyzation from the neck down. There is also extensive nerve damage accompanying the spinal injury as well. The injury to the spine happened 6 months ago and it's been 3 weeks since she refused to eat and we were forced to put her on a liquid diet. She has been in a nearly catatonic state since then."
From what Doc tells him, Luck can see what they expect of him. While he had never done any healing before, he is feeling somewhat confident that he can handle this level of injury, "at least all the body parts are still there he thinks."
Feeling determined to prove his worth and also to avoid getting launched into a sun, Luck walks over to the machine to get a good look of what he's supposed to be dealing with. Remembering that visualization was one of the steps he needed to activate his energy.
Now standing beside Colonel Rico, Luck cranes his neck up to speak to the man, "I don't know how to use this machine but can it show me her spine? I think a clear image of what's wrong will help me fix her."
The Colonel just shrugs, it's clear he doesn't know how to work the machine either so Doc comes over and expands the image of her shattered spine. Now Luck can see that her spine is quite literally shattered in a 5 inch section complete with little bone fragments all over the place. It was a wonder she wasn't dead he thought.
*Got any advice here for me?*
[System - I can give you knowledge about anatomy, but there's not enough time for you to learn it slowly]
Taking in a deep breath, Luck grits his teeth and clenches his butt cheeks. Then he closes his eyes for what's about to happen. Then he mutters *just do it.*
The system gives him a painful load of information regarding biology and anatomy. Just as he thought he would pass out it stops abruptly.
[System - Just do your best, even if you fuck it up I can fix her neck anyway, so no pressure]
As the pain in his head was fading Luck opens his eyes and takes another deep breath to steady himself, trying to ignore the system that was starting to make him wonder why he was even here, he clears out those stray thoughts and starts to focus on feeling his energy.
It only takes him a second or so to make the connection and then he recalls the image of the girl in the bed, how pathetic she looked, how skinny she was, her hair falling out, and the image of her shattered spine he had seen from the display. Visualizing every little detail he could imagine.
Then he imagines what she could be like, her face filled out, a head full of hair, a healthy skin tone and a perfectly normal spine. Using the information his system gave him on what a spine should look like as a reference.
The before and after images he has visualized are becoming more solid in his mind and as he focuses harder it was almost like they have become real 3D images he could see. He then overlays the images one on top of the other, as he gathers up his energy he decides he will try to merge the two pictures together one step at a time.
Overlaying the healthy image on top of the sickly broken one he forces his energy into the sickly picture. Using his will power he starts to connect the pictures. Luck can see and feel the changes taking place in his mind as he keeps using his energy to fuse the images he can feel a certain amount of resistance with each step. When he encounters those areas all he needed to do was apply more energy to overcome it, to get to the healthy image he had in mind.
First he wanted to fix her spine and it didn't take much energy for him to move the broken pieces back into place, it took a little more energy to fuse those pieces together. Fixing the damaged nerves was also a simple process that didn't offer him much resistance.
Next he started to regrow her hair, this also didn't take much energy to do. As soon as it got down to shoulder length he decided that was good enough. Finally he thought about how skinny and pale she was, and this was what took the most of him.
To try and reach the image he had of how her body should look if it was healthy, it took nearly everything he had. Pushing himself to the limit he was able to get over this final block of resistance. The 2 images in his head had successfully fused into one. The sickly and broken girls image was gone and the picture that remained in his mind was a perfectly healthy young girl.
[System - I think you should open your eyes now.]
Luck had fallen into a trance like state while he was using his energy for the first time and hearing the system snapped him out of it. Disconnecting himself from the image in his mind, he was still standing in front of the machine when he opened his eyes.
Turning around he saw the girl was now sitting up in bed looking down at her hands, which she was opening and closing repeatedly. Her face had filled out and her eyes were shining brightly despite the tears that were running down her cheeks. Her hair had been restored and her skin was practically glowing. She was exactly as he had imagined her.
The Colonel and Doc were both alternating their heads to look at the machine, then to the girl, and then to Luck himself in that order. Before repeating the process again. Not knowing if he should be amused or worried by that reaction of theirs, he was about to back up when a spout of dizziness hit him.
Feeling like if he tried to take a single step right now he would fall on his face, so Luck carefully lowered himself till he was sitting on the floor. A epiphany had come to him after seeing the girl healed, and it gave him an idea for what he should do next.
He closed his eyes and started to concentrate again and while it took him a little longer to feel his energy this time around it didn't take that much longer, as soon as he felt the connection to his power he closed his eyes and visualized himself.
Only this time one of the mental images of himself looked tired and the other looked alive and energetic. Focusing on merging the images again he could feel his energy returning rapidly and as his energy returned, so did the speed at which the images were combining, in no time at all there was only one image, and as he opened his eyes he knew he had made a full recovery.
[System - I have to say that trick you did with your energy just now is creative. Seeing life and time work together like that defies logic. We will talk about this later]
*Out of curiosity, can you tell me exactly how much time passed while I was healing her and also how long it took for my recovery?*
[System - To heal the girl, 4 minutes 25 seconds elapsed. For yourself, 12 seconds]
Hearing the actual time Luck was a bit in disbelief. To him it felt like it had taken a long time for him to heal her and to recover. Hours at least he thought, remembering what the system said he figured his time ability had something to do with the time gap he was feeling and the how much time had actually passed.
Standing up and seeing that Doc and the Colonel had stopped looking around and had taken a few steps away, they were busy having a discussion amongst themselves.
Knowing they would get to him when they were done, he headed over to the girl and see how she was feeling and also to introduce himself.
