Chereads / Child of Gaia / Chapter 17 - Foxtail Inn

Chapter 17 - Foxtail Inn

Adrian regained consciousness and saw himself inside of a futon. He remembered that he willed himself to faint or else an outburst of emotions would have happened on the crowded area. This inn seems to only have a few visitors and is spaced apart. This means the input of emotions he is experiencing will not hinder him.

"It is good that you are awake because we are leaving." Dustan stated as he entered the room.

"What do you mean by leaving?" Adrian asked as he looked at his phone and it was just the next day.

"I went to the location that the map has pointed yet there is no structure in that location. There was no building and just an empty plot of land. Also, you fainted. It means that you are unfit for this mission." Dustan explained in a nonchalant tone.

"Sorry about that. My power ran amok due to the chaotic mix of emotions that a large group of people. It is my fault for that. If I did not make myself faint, then we would have to witness a riot beginning before our very eyes." Adrian stated as he told Dustan what would happen if he did not make himself lose consciousness.

"That's it. You are out of this mission. You are a danger to everyone if you do not control your powers. Besides, the building in the location is not even there. I will contact Whiz to pick us up immediately as other Deviants might feel our powers." Dustan stated but Adrian stopped him.

"What are you doing?" Dustan asked in a slightly angry tone.

"When you went to the location, is empty or is there a structure there?" Adrian asked as he knew that there are hidden places in each country.

Adrian believed that Dustan was not able to see anything because his spiritual eyes has yet to awaken, or he did not bother awakening it. Dustan then remembered that there was something in that empty plot of land.

"The area was not completely empty as there is an old wooden gate of some sort standing there. It looked like those you can see on the entrances to the shrines in this country. I cannot remember what they are called though." Dustan stated.

"They are called Torii. They are gates that signifies that the other side is sacred." Adrian stated as he stood up.

"Those are just structures made by ancient people of this country. I passed that gate, but nothing happened. I was not spirited away or anything." Dustan argued but Adrian's look made him start to question his beliefs.

Sofia did tell them that Adrian is able to see spirits or ghosts. They would not have believed it if Jihan did not tell them that it is real. Jihan might be one to joke but he does not lie on serious matters.

"The only reason you were not able to go to the other side is your lack of invitation. That gate signifies there is an owner on the other side. It is his place which is why the locals are avoiding that location. When you asked them, did they feel rather uncomfortable to answer?" Adrian stated.

Dustan then remembered that only one person answered his question when he asked about that place. They just advised him to steer clear of that area because bad things might happen to him. Dustan felt like Adrian has been to this country before by the way he is familiar with the attitude of the locals.

"Have you been to this country before? You seem to know about them more than me." Dustan asked.

"I have not but they act like locals of a faraway place like in my country. Especially if there is something like a holy site in the area." Adrian answered but he has a different answer on his mind.

"I have been a resident of this country before in my past incarnations that is why I know." Adrian thought.

"Do you have a way to enter the other side then? I heard that you could see supernatural stuff." Dustan asked as he wanted to also clear the mission. Dustan decided to believe Adrian because there is nothing the latter would gain from lying.

"What is this inn called by the way?" Adrian asked as he wanted to thank the matron of the inn.

"I cannot pronounce it in Japanese as I will butcher the pronunciation, but it is called Foxtail Inn in English." Dustan stated.

"Foxtail Inn? Why does it sound familiar?" Adrian muttered as a knock is then heard from the door.

"Dear guest, the food has arrived. I will now deliver it to you upon your instruction." A voice of a female attendant stated as she waited outside the door.

"Come in please." Adrian answered in perfect Japanese which shocked Dustan.

"You can speak Japanese?! Why did you not tell me?" Dustan stated in shock.

"I could but you did not other to ask which is why I never really told you. We are not really close friends for me to just suddenly tell you everything about my life." Adrian answered.

"I will not come in then." The female attendant answered, and she opened the door.

The female attendant that walked in with the food seem to be in her thirties. She also wore a kimono and had the grace of a lady befitting of one. She then presented the tray of food beside Adrian.

Dustan kept his attention on the food while Adrian stared at the attendant. The attendant also noticed Adrian's gaze but paid no attention to it. In Dustan's point of view the woman is an elegant woman but Adrian could see something different.

Adrian could see six tails behind the woman, but it is not normally possible to spot for ordinary people. This is not his first time to see something odd like this before his awakening. When his seal started to weaken, he could see supernatural entities blending in with society. Some even started to start families with humans.

"I smell a fox." Adrian suddenly stated which made the woman shake for a split second.
