Chapter 7 - Painful visit home

-11 months later-

Over the past year, I had been learning swordsmanship from Teacher who I thought of as an uncle and learning magic from the voice who felt kind of like a brother at this point.

It was nearing my birthday, Teacher came up to me "well, it's almost been a year are you ready to go home and see your mother?"

"more than anything" I replied "good we're heading out tomorrow so, we're having a feast" Teacher said pointing at the red deer behind him, I smiled "let's get cooking."

After eating and heading to sleep in my makeshift tent made out of twigs and leaves, I felt uneasy for some reason, 'shouldn't I be excited for tomorrow not anxious?' I thought.

[you're probably anxious to see your mother after all this time, it's normal, now shut up and go to sleep] the voice said to me 'you're probably right' I replied 'heh, she's going to hate my long hair' it had grown down to my shoulders.

After waking up and destroying our camp we headed to the rendezvous point where we would meet the carriage driver, when we met him it was a different driver, he had a cloak over his head and didn't talk, it didn't matter though, all that mattered was us getting home.

After hours of driving we were nearing Serec, I looked off in the direction of the village only to see columns of smoke. I smacked my sleeping Teacher; he woke up and was about to ask what's up but then he saw the smoke as well. We yelled at the driver to stop.

We got out to get a better look. We both decided it would be faster to run while enhanced with magic but just as we were about to run the voice spoke.

[behind you]

I looked back only to see the driver with a knife about to stab Teacher. I threw up some cover with earth magic to block the knife. After the knife collided with the earth shield Teacher noticed and prepared a counter-attack, he drew his sword and cut his head off almost immediately. I felt no remorse for him, only annoyance. He had stalled our time to get back so we set off at top speed arriving in only a few minutes. When we arrived it was horrible, houses burning, dead bodies littering the ground, gods the smell was horrible, and black-robed people killing everyone, I turned. The voice yelled at me.

[this is no time to get sick fool, get to your mother]

I snapped back to reality and started running to my mother's house, passing by dead bodies and robed people alike, solely trying to get to my mother's house. I got to my house only to see two robed men standing over her, I ran in and killed both of them with minimal movements.

I sprinted to my mom "mom! Are you ok? Are you hurt anywhere?" I was frantic looking all over her. Thankfully it looked like she was safe so I just hugged her saying "thank goodness, thank goodness you're ok."

I let her go and said "we need to get out of here" she nodded then yelled "Gwyn look out!" she said with fear in her eyes while shoving me away. I turned to see a robed mage who had shot a spell at us, it hit my mother and she dropped, I jumped over in shock and screamed at the voice.

'Is she ok?! Tell me she's ok!' the voice answered [she's not dead just unconscious but for how long I don't know.]

My heart sank, she was knocked out for an unknown amount of time, it could be days, weeks or even years! I couldn't fathom that and just sat there holding her. Unknown to me one of the robed men was coming up behind me and was about to stab me when a loud "NOOOOO" echoed out to only see Teacher diving out to intercept the strike which stabbed him in his solar plexus. Where the magic core was located, it was a wound that would take a very long time to heal because without a working magic core healing magic won't work, at least not effectively.

I saw this and couldn't keep my emotions in check and said "hey voice, kill them all" the voice responded [keke, of course.]

The last thing I remember is my vision going red and the sword we found in Zun's tomb coming out of the pocket dimension.
