With Valentine's Day rolling around, a young boy took in a deep sigh as he sat down in class. The entire atmosphere of the class was very lovey-dovey; people were flirting, giving each other chocolates, and confessing to one another. He wanted to ask why they were doing this in class but shrugged it off.
He didn't particularly care, but Valentine's Day always rubbed him the wrong way. His luck with girls was not something desirable at all. He's had relationships, but calling them abnormal wouldn't do it justice.
He'd been confessed to before. Every single one of them ending with an abrupt breakup because of one reason. They were all insane. In all of them, he's had to run for his life on more than one occasion.
Looking down at the window, he spotted a girl confessing to someone. As the two then spotted him, he waved back at them to which they replied by moving out of sight. He didn't blame them for doing that, obviously, they just wanted some privacy.
The bell then rang, signaling that classes were about to start. It was mundane as usual. The teacher was going on and on about human cultures and beliefs but Ciel found it hard to focus.
The lesson was cut off though, much to the teacher's annoyance. With the bell signifying lunch had started, he stood up and started walking to the door. That is until his sleeve was suddenly pulled on. Turning his head, he furrowed his brows as he saw who it was.
"Ciel, would you like to have lunch with me?" A female classmate asked.
"Miki? Sure. Let me just buy something."
"Alright, I'll be on the rooftop then!" she replied, scurrying off.
At least she was fast about the invitation. Honestly, he wanted to ask more questions but her running off basically made that impossible.
A random classmate then slung his arm around his shoulder. "I still gotta know, man. How'd you become friends with Miki of all people?" He didn't really know the boy all that well so he passively slapped his arm out of his shoulder.
He was right though. Compared to Miki, Ciel was average in terms of looks and sociability. He didn't look that special apart from his rather expressionless eyes and always neutral face.
Miki on the other hand was a fairly popular girl. She had neck-length white hair and dandelion-colored eyes. She would often wear a red collar shirt along with a frilly, black knee-length skirt. She would also wear a pink-ish ribbon on one side of her hair.
He then shrugged, replying to the boy's question. After a couple of seconds of just standing around, he made his way out the door to buy some food.
Entering the hallway, there were even more couples there flirting with each other. It was times like these that he somewhat despised how lax the school he attended was.
The oddly named Jiyu High was a school that promoted freedom within its students. There were dress codes and such but the students were mostly free to wear whatever they wanted. The school still wouldn't allow skimpy outfits and such. And things like bullying were, of course, still ostracized and given punishment.
"I wonder how many confessions she's getting," he thought, his mind flashing to a red-haired girl.
After a few minutes, he finally made his way to the cafeteria where he ordered some bread and proceeded to make his way to the roof. Honestly speaking, he wasn't too fond of the idea of speaking to Miki alone. She always had a prim and proper appearance when in front of others, but he could tell that was just a facade. Something about her eyes always told him she was bad business. Well, maybe not a facade, but he could pick up on the fact that she was hiding something.
His curiosity was the one thing that made him even accept such an invitation.
Making his way to the sixth floor, he saw the stairway leading up to the usually locked rooftop. After taking in a deep breath, he turned the knob to feel that it was unlocked. After a quick turn and push, his eyes were greeted by quite a sight.
A beautiful view of the city surrounding them, and even of the school. The school was shaped like a quadrangle, the middle part being more of a nature-based area, somewhat like a park. Besides that though, the other sight that greeted him was Miki.
Her hair swayed beautifully with the wind, and her eyes were brighter than usual. The yellow backdrop provided by the sun beautifully complimented her already yellow eyes and pale skin.
His short, black hair also slightly fluttered because of the wind. They were high up after all so it wasn't that surprising.
For a moment, the two simply stared at each other, not really knowing what to speak about. Miki expressing anticipation and Ciel having his usual unassuming expression.
"Hi, Miki," he abruptly forced out, "where's your food?" He noticed that the girl didn't have anything with her.
"I don't have any," she replied, her face forming into a smile.
The answer caught Ciel somewhat off guard but he quickly recomposed himself, sort of already knowing what was going to happen. "Why'd you invite me here then?"
Her face seemed to beam even more at the question. "Because I wanted to spend some time with you."
He scowled at her for a bit before taking in a deep breath and letting it out. She was certainly forward with her approach.
Relaxing, he let his body sit down on the hard floor of the roof. He then took another good look around the roof, noticing that there was nobody else there except the two of them. He also noticed what surrounded the roof of the school; it was surrounded by metal fences, most likely as a barrier.
Ciel then took a better look at the city. Its expansiveness and just how far it truly stretched. Even if at the top of the school, he still couldn't see the edge of the city. He felt that it stretched on forever with how large it truly was.
Turning to his side, he saw Miki staring back at him with a smile. Her eyes fixated on him, almost robotically so. He already knew where this was going and he just wanted to get it over with.
"Do you want some—"
His question was cut short as he felt something soft come in contact with his lips. The feeling was sudden and fleeting. He felt that her lips were soft but could also feel the passion she put into it.
"Would you like to be my boyfriend, Ciel?" she asked, resting her cheek on her palm.
Their eyes met, and Miki could notice the dull sapphire-like color in his eyes as he focused on her. The bangs on Ciel's face did nothing but flap about uncontrollably as he answered.
"If I say no?"
"I would just keep on trying again," she replied, inching ever so closer to his face.
And there it was. He saw it once again, the eyes that were unbecoming of her rather lady-like appearance.
Adjusting his blazer and necktie, he answered once more, "Then I don't have much of a choice, do I?"
"Correct!" she excitedly replied, standing up to match him which was followed by her burying her face into his chest.
(Again, huh…) Ciel thought.
With Miki burying herself into his shirt, she internally screamed at herself, (It doesn't matter if he doesn't love me. I'll just love him as much as I can to make him fall for me!)
And with that newfound motivation, she detached herself from him with a smile. Although he had just gotten himself a pretty beautiful girlfriend, Ciel couldn't be too happy about it.
He knew how this would end, it was just a matter of time before something would happen. At this point though, he stopped caring. If something were to happen to him, then so be it.
