Chapter 27 - Sudden Attack

Jin Chen's voice bellowed in the arena causing the loud jeers and hollering to abruptly simmer down. Even the scavenger birds eyeing bear claws tone fleshy parts quieted down like they could read the situation.

It was safe to say that Jin Chen's imposing aura extended beyond the human species that even birds recognized his authority. He tossed the whip stained with blood into the hands of the man with the yellow gemstone on his forehead.

The man felt disgusted as the blood stained his armour but he didn't dare voice his concerns to Jin Chen. He dejectedly carried the whip. Jin Chen flew back up to the platform with a scowl between his brows. The cracks on his skin that resembled the strokes of lightning rescinded as he walked into his guild with an imposing air of supremacy.

While Jin Chen was dealing with bear claw, Jin Lin had his own problems. He was sitting across Ming Wei with Fen Hao to his right. Their bodies swayed with the movement of the vehicle due to the bumpy road.

The vehicle was a black armoured truck with its windows blacked out including the windscreen. Fen Hao had taken a peek at the front cabin of the truck and from his description, there was a translucent screen with cameras and sensors. Hell, the futuristic truck didn't even have a steering wheel just like the recent tesla model.

All the driver had to do was sit there with their seat belt buckled. The wheels were four times bigger than those of monster trucks. Four trucks left the compound directly from the hangar which meant none of them had the opportunity to see the outside world of Equino.

Jin Lin focused his gaze on the loose bolt clanking as the vehicle shook with the bumpy road. Fen Hao who had been chatting incessantly suddenly felt a tingle down his spine shutting him up abruptly. It was like a loud whoosh sound coming towards them. The whoosh sound was most definitely a kilometre away when he first heard it but it seemed to be coming closer at light speed.

As to why he could sense it from that distance, it was because of his awakened power from the reconstruction chamber. At this time he wasn't aware of it neither did he get the chance to realise something was off with his body because there was a sudden huge explosion in front of the truck they were in.

The metal prison shook with the tremor before it spun out of control. This truck was the last one in the convoy and the sudden attack separated them from the other trucks. Luminous lights flashed three times with their shadows showing on blacked-out windows as the truck rolled. Sounds of haughty laughter from outside and screams from the inside created such an eerie scene.

Jin Lin felt a burst of heat in his palms but the feeling quickly disappeared like a fleeting moment. The truck stopped rolling and the heavy-duty door of the back of the truck was opened like a can of sardines before it was flung away. It took a long time for them to hear the sound of the door hitting the ground. Even when they heard it, it was so light which meant wherever it landed was pretty far.

The truck soon stabilised as the screams and wails died down but before anyone could heave a sigh of relief a round of sinister laughter resounded making chills run down their spines.

Jin Lin had a growing urge to go outside and beat the hell out of the clown making that horrible laugh. The desire was almost animalistic as though a beast was begging to be unleashed. His phoenix eyes suddenly flashed a faint blue light before going back to normal.

He subconsciously clenched his fist as though restraining something but he didn't have enough time to process what was happening to him when the truck was suddenly picked up and shaken like a salt shaker.

Everyone at the back of the truck couldn't hold on so they fell to the ground in a pile wailing like they had been subjected to a torturous event. These people were all novices so it did make sense why they were crying like it was the end of days.

Before the dust settled from the human pile falling to the ground, Fen Hao raised his head and looked through the fog of dust only to see two figures one short and the other abnormally tall staring down at them.

He tapped Jin Lin's shoulder trying to get his attention only to find that the person beside him wasn't Jin Lin at all. It was Ming Wei glowering at him like he owed him millions.

Fen Hao looked at him with a WTF expression. He wanted to ask him what's his problem but he had to find GodLin otherwise if they get separated then it might be game over for him permanently.

He was about to stand up and look through the human pile when he heard muffled curses and swearing coming from beneath them. The two people's gazes met before they simultaneously looked below Ming Wei.

Ming Wei's eyes widened before he struggled to get up. It turned out Jin Lin's face was squished in between some other person's armpit because Ming Wei's chest was pressing his face down. "Shit," swore Ming Wei abruptly getting up like he had his tail stepped on.

Jin Lin raised his head taking in the fresh air mingled with the smell of dust which he preferred more than an armpit that smelt like a nut sack.

"Did I fuckin insult your ancestors or something, huh? Because you always intentionally or unintentionally come after me. Tsk, *cough *cough *cough... it's like I slaughtered your entire family in my past life," angrily shouted Jin Lin while trying to catch his breath.

Ming Wei wanted to retort but couldn't because the short figure hovering above them suddenly spoke as a gush of wind picked up random people from the crowd.

"Haha... the sweet wails of novices," she said with an ominous smile as her chocolate brown skirt swayed with the wind, "I am looking for someone and once I find him I will... naturally let you go. How is that?"
