Chapter 28 - Staredown

Jin Lin scanned around the small crowd of vexed players and frowned. Everyone was accounted for all except the driver and his companion. The convoy of trucks had also disappeared and didn't even bother to stop and assist them. It seemed the motto of this world was one man for himself god for us all.

But among the three of them, only one person had an idea what was going on. Ming Wei truly believed this blue-haired human beacon of a smurf had attracted the wrong attention with his specs. The blonde youth suddenly felt conflicted.

It was either he distanced himself from this trouble maker or stick together out of familiar ties. Ming Wei subconsciously moved a step further away without being noticed.

While blondie over here was contemplating on saving his own life, Jin Lin felt the hair on his body stand on end with great vigilance. Fen Hao on the other hand, was sticking to Jin Lin like freshly chewed gum. He would have prefered to hold Jin Lin's hand so they wouldn't be separated but if he tried that he knew he would be beaten to a pulp.

"Dage, who do you think they are looking for?" asked Fen Hao with a whisper.

Jin Lin vigilantly scanned the area and responded without even looking at him. "Be ready for anything..... and when I say run we head east," replied Jin Lin with a scowl between his brows. It was like his senses had been set alight. "They are both in the mediatas rank and we can't defend ourselves against them," explained Jin Lin after checking the two stranger's specs.

Fen Hao checked the two people's specs and his lips couldn't help but quirk up. He snickered as he said, "The small one is called Cream Shot and the other pfft... is called Tail Raiser... pfft, what kind of messed up name is tail raiser?"

Ming Wei subconsciously moved another step backwards not willing to be associated with these fools. And he was right because Fen Hao's snickering attracted Cream Shot's attention. She nudged her accomplice to investigate as she asked, "What so funny? How about you share the joke with me," bearing her sharp stained teeth. Her mouth only had canines making her look like a vile creature that crawled out of an alien movie.

Fen Hao's face turned pale as he stuck even closer to Jin Lin with a look of 'save me older brother'. Jin Lin felt like slapping him upside his head but held back as he kept an expressionless face not daring to look into those pitiful eyes.

Tail Raiser the so-called lap dog hovered over with slender silver tentacles coming out from his back terrifying some of the enlightened recruits. The other half was fascinated especially those that still believed that this was a game.

The tentacles slithered like snakes as though they had a mind of their own. They curiously eyed the people dressed in tight-fitting bodysuits like members of the space force.

One such fascinated player decided to touch it purely out of curiosity. The tentacle moved closer to him seeming also interested so the two faced each other as though sizing each other up.

While the tentacle was having a face-off with a curious mind, Tail Raiser was looking at Fen Hao with a probing gaze. Just now he was reading Fen Hao's specs but found nothing interesting.

The subject of his curiosity on the other end was sweating bullets with his face resembling that of a ghost. He wanted to beg the great god beside him to save him but the great god didn't seem to have the ability to read minds.

Lucky for him he wasn't half as interesting so Tail Raiser shifted target. Maybe it was the eye-catching blue hair or the imposing aura emanating from the person beside the clown that attracted his attention.

Tail Raiser had a sneaking suspicion that he had found the person he was looking for but he had to prove it. He leaned in closer and their gazes met. Jin Lin clenched his fist as he locked gazes with the strange-looking man. He didn't back down with his mind ready for anything.

The girl in the chocolate brown skirt crossed her legs in an easy pose her expression as dark as charcoal. "Those stupid pricks didn't give me a description so how am I supposed to tell who among them is the human panacea, I hate dealing with brainless buffoons... *sigh looks like we would have to kill every one of them and dig out their energy cores till we find the chosen one."

A sense of panic spread among the crowd of newcomers with some wondering whether they would be resurrected here or back at the base. Another was even contemplating whether to just take chances and jump over the cliff for a painless death. Some were sensible enough to consult the system and seek some saving grace because they were certain if they die here then it's complete lights out.

Spine chilling laughter came from the short girl as a long spear with a brown ribbon at its tip appeared out of thin air. "So who's first? You?... You or maybe you? Don't take it personally it's just that I don't like your face," she said before licking her teeth terrifying the shit out of the person whose face had been biasedly profiled. He sincerely wished the system sold a beautifying potion or something so he could save himself.

Meanwhile, Jin Lin's stare down with Tail Raiser had escalated. This man had resorted to scare tactics to try and incite Jin Lin to defend himself. Tail Raiser's eyes completely blackened including the white in his eyes. Jin Lin would be lying if he said he wasn't shaken by this.

His heart jolted out of fright but he outwardly maintained his indifferent look like he was the least bit terrified. A creepy smile appeared on Tail Raiser's face as he closed the distance between them. It seemed this arrogant novice had attracted his attention.
