"Not much." The King replied, as if undeterred by the disrespectful tone that the knight had been using to address him. "I was just curious, seeing as you have never taken an interest in children."
Upon hearing his words, Maria's eyes glinted with a certain light. Still, she cleared her throat, and managed to contain her expression. "They are orphaned children. Lashfen pitied them, thus I was forced to adopt them as my own. I already owe him too much, therefore such a tiny thing should not be of concern to me. After all, it is just a few more mouths on the table for me."
