She then lifted the trunk only to be taken aback by surprise. Not just Martha's travel baggage was kept inside the trunk but it contained the travel baggage of both her parents, travel baggage of Benjamin and travel baggage of Cindy as well there.
Besides the luggage of the three of them, there was kept a suitcase which her father would often use to carry big sums of money in.
Martha felt her body trembling. She held her breathe tight. She was clearly blacked out by what she saw. All her discretionary powers were in vain to what she saw.
She cannot make up her mind for anything. She simply turned around to her look at her father and then turned to her mother to say, "What the heck are you guys up to?"
Martha went back to her seat and didn't close the door of the car. She didn't seek answers from her parents this time but sought answers from herself.
"I have been thinking a lot about what all is happening but never was able to come up with any good assumptions to make. Each time I made one, I was later on, mommy would just negate them and present me with a truth totally in contrast to how I perceived things to be" she took a break from talking to herself.
She didn't think of anything else since her inner voice had stopped. Nor did she want to have a word with her parents. She was in total distress.
She didn't want to ask anyone an explanation but badly wanted someone to tell her voluntarily the scenario. Her eyes were wide open.
If someone would look into her eyes for long enough, he'd realize she wasn't actually staring at something around her but rather her eyes were moved inwards, she kept introspecting her own self. She didn't really know why yet she felt like doing so. Her mother reached out for her.
She placed her hand on her head and caressed her hair slightly. "I will explain it all to you soon. But right now, we got to keep moving and we cannot delay anymore"
Martha exchanged eyes with her mother in agreement. She immediately lowered her head and returned to have a word with her own self after acknowledging her mother's point. "Something must have happened back in the village.
This is why we have come so far from it. Or maybe I am wrong just as I have been all this time.
Let mom buy the time and briefly tell me everything once we reach the place. By the way, we haven't reached anywhere till now.
No wonder if we end up taking a lodge somewhere far and spend the night there only as I wonder if there is indeed a friend whom we are visiting.
This whole thing has originated from my daddy. He was the first one to cease to talk much since the last day when the three of us were having lunch together. His silence was then outspread to mommy and she, along with daddy of course, began to show signs of reticence on yesterday's dinner.
I showed have taken note of this indifferent behavior from their part. Why didn't I?" At this time, she didn't seek anybody's presence, not her grandma nor even Matthew. She just wanted herself the most at this time.
She needed to hold herself together till the time the truth is revealed by her parents. She was sitting on the back seat with the door opened.
His father unloaded the luggage from the car and drew out the Car jack kept underneath the boot space.
As soon as she saw her father fixing the car jack below the car, she immediately rose from her seat and got out of the car so to not make it burdensome for him to uplift the car. She came out and walked a few steps away from the scene.
She chose to walk a few steps into the direction from where they have just traveled from.
The sun was almost set and darkness slowly began to engulf the whole backdrop. Martha decided not to walk too far from the scene as the place was poorly lit and the place was secluded.
There were forests, and not just bushes, on either sides of the road. The road was however wider than the one they'd previously spent hours of time traveling in, and was in much better condition as well.
After walking a few steps behind the point the car had come to a halt, she looked behind to take another look at the luggage since she didn't properly examine the number of baggage.
She saw her own baggage and two of her parents' baggage along with another baggage.
She didn't saw the briefcase in which his father would usually carry big sums of money.
Upon looking closely, she observed her father had let it remain inside the boot only.
"This assures me even more that he has indeed carried lots of money in that briefcase that he is avoiding to take it out in the open forest, though there seems to be no one except our trio." Martha continuously thought there something must have gone wrong with the village that they have sought to take refuge somewhere else.
Martha again restricted her thought process since whatever assumptions she set her beliefs upon would be sooner or later shattered after her mother reveals the truth. "Have some patience. The beans will be spilled really soon.
Even if mommy denies speaking up the truth, I would be fine with it and won't stress her to do so. Just do what they say. Let's see how this ends up" Martha smiled without a reason, just trying to be positive in this situation. Only god knew how better or worse the things are going to get for her.
The punctured tire was now replaced by the spare tire and her father had also kept the car jack back to its place. Martha, by that time, returned to the car and helped her father load the luggage back in the boot. She lifted her own baggage to be kept into the boot space.
