Chapter 25 - Chapter 25

Every time I would think this starless night couldn't get any darker, it surprises me by bringing to view an even darker sight which compels me to make sure my eyesight is working properly.

How come I can put the blame on mommy and daddy when I myself do not feel like to disturb this serene yet wild scene of the silence of the woods? It may be more of serene and less of wild now.

But my inner gut is telling me the vice versa is going to happen.

In fact, it wouldn't remain serene at all and just get wilder and wilder.

Hope I am wrong" They kept traveling for another few meters while Martha slid to the other side of the seat in her quest to find something different on this side which, to her surprise, she did.

There was light. In the entire journey that was spent in the night so far and during the time the sun was almost set, never had she witnessed light except when the sun was setting.

This made her believe that they've reached, rather about to reach soon.

Moreover, she didn't see one light but a cluster of light.

"There must be a small village since there's not only one light but so many glittering spots that I am able to see from this distance.

It even suggests we are not too far from the place. Or what if this isn't the place we're headed to?" she thought.

Martha didn't want to break the silence of the woods by asking her parents if this is the place they would be reaching soon.

"I have been traveling for the whole day now without me still knowing where actually the three of us are headed to.

I won't mind if they keep it a secret for a few more time until we finally reach there and I myself get to see the destination I have been longing to see" Martha thought.

Cindy had already noticed her daughter able to spot the light from the distance and she kept her hand on her heart to maintain her composure. Deep within, a storm had been creating havoc inside Cindy.

For once, she even wished that the forest catches fire and then it spreads into the whole forest before they could reach their final destination. She wanted to submerge into the fire before they arrived there.

"I still cannot believe how people are able to live in such a cold atmosphere. Don't they feel like basking in the Sun? Oh come on you stupid! The dark is not going to stay there for all year round.

Of course there will be dawn in the next few hours" as Martha giggled to herself and tried to ease herself off from the stress building for so long.

She could now see the spots with more clarity and from the distance between her and those bright spots, it was debatable whether the source of light was electric bulbs or lanterns or pure fire.

She had to await her judgment till she gets a bit closer to the scene. Martha just didn't take her eyes off those spots as the car moved and looked forward to reaching to a point where she can discern her choice out of the three, whether the light was emitting from the bulb or a lantern or if it was pure fire.

Another interesting thing she found about that light was that those multiple light spots were placed at equal length from each other, as this is what seemed to Martha from the distance. "This is quite a civilization.

There must be houses placed at equal length since light is emitting from a horizontal frame where the spots seem equally arranged, hence giving the idea that there must be houses adjoining each other that emit these lights.

There would be furthermore a colony above those houses as well" she believed.

Her father, as anticipated by Martha, took a turn to the side from where the light emitted. Now they were heading to where the lights gave invited them.

As soon as her father took the turn towards the lights, a thought struck to Martha's mind instantaneously.

"Whether he is aware of this route or he is simply following the lights?" Martha looked over to the path they were traveling on seconds ago to see if it continues to advance any further.

She looked back to see that path and to her surprise, there was a big rock obstructing the path ahead. Her father had taken a turn few meters before the rock was present.

They now entered into the dense portion of the forests which was surprisingly, sparse enough for the motor car to pass. "It appears as if some people have carved this path for four wheeler vehicles to pass. They have also kept in mind that it shall go unnoticed to the general public to avoid unwanted visitors.

But what lies in that place that wasn't to be manifested to the general public and a few people only? I may find that out sooner" thought Martha as the car slowly treaded on that path.

They were approaching the light.

As they got nearer, Martha figured out that those spots of light were nothing but fire torch tied to long wooden sticks and that stood upright. There was pure fire emerging out of those fire torches which – though from a distance – seemed like they wanted to unleash into the forest and reduce it down to ashes.

This marked the beginning of Martha losing her composure that she had maintained for so long by calming herself with light talks with herself.

Albeit it was just a mere impression that the fire reflected for her, she somehow began to lose her ease and got agitated. "Where are we going?" she asked out of the blue.

This made both her father and mother turned around to look at their daughter since such a worry could they notice in her voice. Cindy turned to the front and said afterwards, "Don't worry.
