Chapter 23 - Chapter 23

Only by lifting it a few inches from the ground that Martha realized how heavy it was, or to put it in some other way, how much things were kept inside it.

She immediately thought, "That's like my packing for almost a month. What was going on inside my parents' mind while putting in so many things? Also, is the baggage filled with my personal items or any such items in general?" Going by the physical appearance of the baggage from a distance, she could tell that it was overly packed since it was bulging. But it took her to lift the baggage herself to know how much heavier it really was than she had assumed earlier.

She, after much trying, wasn't able to pick it up and settle it in the boot.

Therefore, her father lent a helping hand to her to finally settle back the baggage to its place, where the rest of the baggage was already settled down by her father in the meantime.

After having placed the much heavier baggage with help of her father, Martha posed a bewildered look at her father which he attempted to avoid to the best of his abilities.

He swiftly moved forward to the door of the car leading to driver's seat. Meanwhile, Martha's mother reached out to her and placed her hand on Martha's shoulder, "Come sweetheart, we shall move now" her mother said with an expressionless face in order to not let her daughter make out with her expressions about the sort of situation they all were stuck in.

Martha too obliged to her mother and silently got back to her seat.

"I wonder if we are ever going back to home. So much of weight? Leave alone the rest of the two bags which too would be carrying some considerable amount of weight" Finally, after so much of contemplation about the situation in hand, she started wondering about her one-day-old love story.

"I wish Saturday wouldn't have come and Matthew hadn't handed over that chit to me.

If only I could skip any of those steps which had the potential of avoiding my confession to Matthew on the third floor, I would have been at a much happier state right now as I have no idea the day I will get to see Matt again. I have now put him in a limbo.

He has no idea why I didn't show up at the gathering nor is he aware of my whereabouts as going by the excess luggage; it is safe to admit we are not going back to Malaskovhana for at least a month. Or God knows if we are ever going back to my beautiful hometown.

" Martha kept wondering as her father drove deeper into the woods, still not arriving at the destination. It suddenly struck to her that her mother had still not revealed the reason behind all this fuss. But she was not willing to ask her mother about this

. Because she now put her self-respect above her eagerness to know why all three of them have been traveling all day into the woods with so much of heavy baggage and so less of speaking chatter? "She is my mother anyway. What does self respect has to do anything when it is my mother only whom I needs to ask about something?" she thought.

"She should live up to her promises and explain it all to me now. Why is she keeping herself away from explaining me? Ok, enough of overlapping a thought by another thought.

Let me just straightaway inquire about it by myself" she finally made a decision in her mind and was about to implement this decision. "You still haven't told me anything mommy" she said.

"This is neither the right place nor the right time to tell you things Martha" her mother responded.

"So when is the right time going to come up. After a minute, after five minutes or after an hour? Because I do not see us reaching to somewhere but traveling in the same way with the same sort of forests flanking us as they are doing now" Martha said in a slightly louder tone, a bit of annoyance registering itself in her voice.

"Martha, you will get to know about things only when I feel the right time to tell you about it. And I do not see us traveling in the dark and with no other fellow human beings nearby us as right circumstances to tell you what is going on.

Our prime focus is to focus on the road we're traveling so to avoid unwanted troubles one could face in these circumstances.

And the havoc of the punctured tire you have caused is enough for this journey to become as troublesome as it can. Do not make any attempts that may result in another trouble for us.

You think I didn't see you bending down there when we were about to begin riding from that infertile and vast land? Of course I did but due to lack of solid proof, I gave you the benefit of doubt, assuming you won't give us anymore trouble after getting an earful twice in a day. You have made yourself a disappointment today" her mother said everything in a composed manner.

However, she instantaneously regretted the last line she said and her expressions could tell that she would do anything to retract the last statement from her mouth.

Alas, she cannot. Nor did she felt it right at this point in time to apologize to her daughter. She just lowered her head.

Martha' on the other hand, heard it all silently. She even got surprised upon hearing from her mother that she saw her bending down nearby the tire as she wanted to keep it a secret.

Upon hearing the last statement, as soon as she heard it from her mother's mouth, she felt her heart exploding with sorrow.

She grinded her teeth so as not to make any sobbing sound which she desperately wanted to do.
