This again reminded her of Matthew. "He'd be mad at me tomorrow when I'd show up.
We had planned so much for today but everything has gone in vain now. Worst among all is that I won't even get a chance to explain this all to him today only as it'd take a whole day in going to and returning from granny's place plus the time we'd be staying there.
Better would be if I seek an apology from him tomorrow only.
I can bring him a present as a token of my apology. Asking some flowers from Uncle Belvot sounds good!" She wore the same dress she had decided to wear for the Sunday gathering.
She came out of the bedroom to find both her parents waiting for her.
They both had already dressed up but their dress code was in contrast to the resplendent dress that Martha had worn on her skin.
They were dressed in plain clothes. Her mother wore a solid skirt of violet color which isn't quite the color she otherwise wore when going to meet someone.
On the top, she wore a plain shirt and on top of it, a cardigan which again didn't really convey the thought that they were going to meet someone special, in this very case her own mother whom she hadn't seen for the past 3 months.
Her father who was busy reading today's newspaper, or at least pretending to be engaged in reading the newspaper, wore shoes unpolished.
That was only the case when her father would be going on a field visit that he preferred not to polish the shoes.
As for his clothes, a checked shirt tucked deep into his old pair of pants. Again, it wasn't quite a look to resemble as if he's going to meet some of his relatives.
One more thing she'd given thought to is what if they had been waiting for her for long since it wouldn't have taken much time for them to wear these clothes from their daily routine. She asked in a low tone, "Hope I didn't make you wait." Her mother, without shifting her gaze from the door of entrance, said, "No you didn't.
Have your breakfast and we shall leave then."
Martha suited her action to her mother's orders and quietly sat on the dining table. She hadn't experienced such an aroma in the house before. '
She was determined on the fact that it all happened again due to his father's infrequent visit to her granny.
She quickly filed her bowl with cereals and poured milk into it. After finishing the bowl of cereals, she rushed to the kitchen to wash her bowl when her mother said, "Leave it in the sink. I'll do that later. We are already getting late. – she rose from her chair – quickly get in the car"
Martha immediately followed her order and got herself at the back seat of the car. She saw her father reluctantly sitting on the driver's seat and putting his hand on the steering wheel.
Her mother occupied the seat beside the driver's seat and they began their journey.
Just before they were about to reach the road that led them to the highway and finally have passed through the outskirts of the city, Martha turned behind and looked at the road that would lead them inside the town upon their return to the city in the evening.
She thought, "I am sorry Matt.
I will come tomorrow and seek an apology from you."
They finally passed through the last home settled in their village in the direction they were heading to. Martha still couldn't get over the fact that her Sunday date was ruined. She, in her own mind, had made so many plans where Matthew was accompanying her in each of the moments.
She tried to relive all those moments she had spent with him the last day. His touch, his aggression, his playful jokes to tease her; she smiled as she remembered everything about him from yesterday until her face started to blush when she cherished the memory of their intense moments.
The way he lifted her and grabbed her butt, when she herself began to move in a motion as if they both were having an intercourse, how he laid her down on the bench and made love to her below the shirt – "It was indeed love; romantic, intense love" she thought to herself.
She was pulled off remembering those moments by the fact that her parents could be noticing her blushing without any reason, and therefore might ask the reason behind it.
She quickly put on a poker face while in her head, she was still reliving those beautiful and intense moments with his love, Matt. She looked out of the window and the last house of the village they passed through was now nowhere within the range of her vision.
"I didn't realize when I told him yesterday that no distance can keep us apart that circumstances might turn out like this today and that I won't be able to see him today, let alone being in his arms and kissing his lips again" she thought to herself.
Maybe our teacher was right, we shall be ready for whatever nature has for us in its treasure and not make plans beforehand.
I have realized today that the more you expect the future to be the way you want it to be, the less it remains in your favor and would then definitely surprise you by throwing at you something unexpected" as Martha kept convincing herself that it wasn't at all her fault that she couldn't attend the Sunday gathering.
She preferred to remain silent and not speak much to her parents since they have been off mood ever since she had seen them the moment she had woken up.
However, she liked to have deep conversations with her own self as it seemed amusing to her, maybe because she had done so for the first time ever.
