Grandpa, seeing her efforts to avoid eating green veggies at any cost, smiled and pulled her cheeks lightly and got back to work. He finally got done with cooking the egg and placed it into the plate.
He made sure to wash the plate himself before putting the omelet into it so to ensure utmost hygiene for her grandchild. Martha was too small to eat by her own self and hence, required her grandpa to feed her the omelet. She sat by his lap and her mouth was wide open.
Her Grandpa contentedly fed the omelet to her daughter while making sure each bite she fed her was not too hot.
When his grandpa was about to feed her with the portion that contained some green veggies in it, she quickly grabbed it from his hand and said, "You too eat Paa." Her grandpa was well-versed with her tactics but still gave in to her request and happily ate the portion from his hands.
He said, "You may get away from the green veggie this time but don't forget I also promise you that I will as long as I remain alive, I will force you into eating green veggies." The six year old Martha who thought she had successfully gotten away with her escape plan, lowered her eyes and smiled.
Her grandfather brought his index finger close to her neck and tickled her a bit to which she tilted her neck to the direction where her Paa tickled so to leave no space for him to tickle her.
As she looked outside the window, the lush green fields reminded her of her grandfather. She had now begun to add green veggies to her staple diet.
She could never complete any of her meal without some green veggies. "Caspicum" had now become her favorite of all her veggies. "Time flies by so fast when we do not want it to.
It feels only yesterday when I was pleading Paa not to add capsicum to the omelet" smiled Martha as the breeze still kept waving on the green farm lands. She wanted to open the window and let the wind blow her hair the same way it set the green fields in a waving movement.
"I wonder what Matthew would be doing right now. Would he be missing me? If so, would he be missing me in a romantic way like I am doing? Or would he be cursing me for not being with him when each one of us needed the other one so badly. Worst part is that I promised him yesterday that we'd spend the whole day together"
It has been close to two hour since they had been driving on the same road that they usually took to go to her grandmother's house.
Hence, it didn't seem to matter much to Martha to actually inquire where the three of them were headed to since it was her grandmother's house for sure. Whenever they would be traveling to granny's house, they would always stop by a restaurant for a break after the couple of hour-long drive.
She expected the restaurant to arrive anytime now since she had been fed up sitting idle in the car and even her body ached by sitting in the same position all this while.
After a journey of not more than ten minutes, the restaurant arrived.
The restaurant was not big enough but was capable of comfortably cater to twenty guests at once.
Martha along with both her parents occupied one of the sections of the restaurant. The day being Sunday, they had to wait for around five minutes to find a vacant place. Nonetheless, they found a place and seated themselves.
On the two seats that were adjacent to each other sat Martha's parents, Benjamin and Cindy. In their front sat Martha with the seat besides her being vacant.
The duo still didn't seemed to be on talking terms, nor did Martha felt the need to inquire about the matter since she'd dealt with enough of it in her own mind. She rather was focused on what to order for her to eat.
As soon as she had entered the restaurant, she was delighted with the aroma of the restaurant which carried the smell of the flavors of different dishes which were being either served by the waiters to the guests, or being eaten by the guests who had been already served. The couple sitting to her left had ordered for a cheese sandwich.
As it was being served to them, she made up her mind to order a ham sandwich for herself. The waiter arrived at the table where the three were seated to note down their orders.
He first turned to Martha as he might have noticed by her behavior how hungry she was.
"Good morning ma'am. What is it that you'd like to have?" "Good morning sir, can I have a ham sandwich please" replied Martha, the second time she had been able to speak something in the last few hours since the last she spoke was for the well being of her grandmother.
Sure ma'am, anything else you'd like to add to your order? Like a cup of coffee or maybe some fruit juice?" asked the waiter again.
"No thanks" replied Martha. He replied with a nod and turned to the other side of the table where her parents were seated.
"Good morning sir. What would you like to have?" asked the waiter to Benjamin. Martha's father had been lost in his own thoughts and didn't even raise his head to address the greetings.
He simply relied by moving his head left and right to express his denial for any services for him.
Her mother intervened in between and said, "Bring one bowl of chicken soup for him and one for me" Assuming the two of them didn't want to get disturbed any further, he simply moved to the next table where some more guests had arrived lately.
Martha felt a little embarrassed by this act by her father. "Behaving like this is acceptable in front of the two of us for father.
But why put on such an attitude in front of others?" thought Martha. Meanwhile her order was getting prepared; she kept a surreptitious watch at other people present in the restaurant.
