Chereads / Never Cross The Shield / Chapter 34 - Repay

Chapter 34 - Repay

The street was dark. Cats and mic were screeching and fighting over garbage bins. The poor pink lights were splashing out poorly, Or the wraith catcher light that could be a better definition for it, and people used it more than the first one. Its rays could barely catch on the ground and cast on three faces.

Three half-bread teenagers were hitting a human boy.

Boys were around fourteen years old and two of them were laughing, and insulting as if it was a celebration or something they enjoyed. The little one who laid on the ground, hugging his knees was as if stuck in a nightmare and closed his eyes on those monsters, not watching that scene that was getting to its final at last.

Being a strange freak was better than being an asshole and bully on others. Maria Allen was smoothly striding down an alley in Feral district, thinking that way, watching a few teenagers kicking another one.

She was sure that if the boy did not want to kick their ass, it did not mean that he was weak! It meant that the psycho cycle of their life may involve him and he did not want it or to continue that shit.

The boy cuddled his knees more than before, letting them do what they want and get lost at the end. The alley was dark and buried her face among shadows no one could discover her presence as long as she kept her steps forward silently.

She could not bear that anymore so increased her stride's pace, and the entire time the bullied one could hear that his bones dislocating.

He watched them between his fingers; the girl already locked half of his vision. Three boys were wiggling like worms, mewling for those hurting fingers!

"Truly born in Las Vita, huh? Your mothers did not teach you that no bullying would remain unanswered! This is the law, now get lost before I break your whole arm."

Their fine clothes showed that they came from the other side of the bridge. Only to hit this you.

Like stray cats, they ran away from their favorite garbage bin, they screeched, insulted, and rushed out of the lane.

"Get up, go home! And never get kicked by monsters again." She left him with a mind full of unasked questions.

He studied her stunning face under the hood. She was carrying a Camera and looking familiar to him. The boy barely afforded to get up from the ground rubbed the dust away on his clothes. For the last time scanned her, leaving and fading in fark and cloud of steam.

She halted to study the board, checking the address that Jack had given her. Her cellphone rang and she picked it up swiftly.

"Hey, Jack! I am at Bear café's door but I can't see you!" She growled.

"I can see you! Get in." Jack waved a hand for her immediately after she turned back.

Maria headed inside, looking around she noticed that everyone had been peering at her tonelessly. Yes. She had a camera.

"Calm down folk, I am just here to meet my friend." She shouted and soon the gazes shifted over.

She sat at the table that Jack already was, putting her camera on the table. Her sparkling brown eyes rolled around and hopefully, they owned their business.

"I was waiting for you in the morning!" Jack said, passing her the menu.

"We must leave soon, no time to have tea! Sorry for the delay! The chief editor stuck me there for the pictures. Did you bring me the video?"

"Yes, here." He shoved a memory card to her side and added, "No name about me! The king's hunters were there and I don't want to be cooked in their hot water." Jack warned and his hand still left on the memory! It had many purposes but she studied it quickly.

"I talked to my uncle! It is 6 pm! We can go and meet him now." She said.

"This is a really fair deal! I like it, Maria." Jack said, sipping his coffee.

"Well! Why don't you get back to the office? I thought you want to be a cameraman, not a mechanic anymore!" She asked.

His eyes went sad. He liked that job but it was causing him a tone of stress and he couldn't enjoy it anymore. Moreover living in the Feral district was as tough as walking with your favorite shoe while you know it had gotten many thorns.

"I just can't bear the anxiety that this job has. Is your uncle strict?"

"No, but as long as you keep being neat and don't play coltish. He is a rough man but kindhearted and make sure you don't poke your nose in his personal affairs. I have told you that he had been working for Feral Engine Racings." She alerted for the last time.

"I brought my records, he would be surprised." Jack got up from the chair and added, "Let's have the tea with your uncle. I die to work with him and be a part of that FER assistant. They are the coolest racing that I have ever seen."

She nodded and got to her feet, picking her camera said, "Thank you gentlemen for being nice to me! I will pay this in your honor." Made them smile.

They headed out of the lane where Maria parked her motorcycle in the parking lot. Before the lane, a huge sign hung warning that no motor vehicle was allowed to enter or cross, no exception and even the settlers of Bear lane should park their cars in the parking lot.

"What is the steam that escaping from these tubes?" Maria asked while they crossed a cloud of steam. The tubes went leaky and old. Steam was escaping out of either building, bringing an unpleasant smell and moisture. A fine place for mice.

"Ask that rascal fay mayor!"

They arrived at the guardroom before the building. She passed a card to the old smoking man that half of his head buried under his black hat. He placed the card on a device and the door rolled up.
