Chapter 36 - Don't mess with the hunters

They finished the dinner and again hit those streets. David's garage was on the north side in a quiet place. It had only two hours of distance to reach the Immortality court road.

The door was open and a few people could have seen there. They were all David's assistants, having dinner at a table in the front yard and David was among them. A familiar smart motor vehicle rode to the garage and two of its riders got down.

"Enjoy bodies! A naughty reporter is here after a long time!"

"We have another boy here, disgusting!" The girl at the table growled.

"Pam, come on! He is a handsome human and you like humans." The werewolf said, watching David left them.

Maria had been staying in the Science Academy's dormitory and had to work in her free time as a part job photographer.

"Who did allow you to bring a handsome boy?" He frowned.

Jack felt a chill in his head! Was it the kindhearted uncle? He was a bulky masculine and bald human like them but as rough as the werewolf at the table who kept his yellow eyes on them.

"Uncle." She hugged him. The man's expression changed as if he swiftly removed a mask."

"Welcome back to home, naughty bird!" Her uncle said with a hint of a smile.

She drew her body back and said, "Here is too quiet! Where are those beasts? FER is close."

"Yes, silence before the coming storm. Is he the friend you mentioned?"

Jack walked forward, for handshaking with him.

"Glad to see you, sir!" Jack said it felt as if he just met an Aligner.

"Welcome, pretty boy! We have a lot of unfinished work and another helper was essential." David has his own way to greet his new assistant.

"Thanks, sir! I will do my best."

"Stop saying, sir! I am not an Aligner commander. Just call me, David."

"Yes, si… David."

"Cool! Hey, you pigs stop devouring the whole table! Come here; let's greet our new family member." David finished and at the same moment, a cold hand sat around his shoulder.

"Hello, handsome!" her voice was the same as a hushing cold wind that brought rustle to bushes, making them quake.

Jack was surprised that a Vampire girl was working there; they barely were showing up in such places and more of them working as artists and joining Aligners.

From the day, that TECO medicine company made them the Sunergy vaccine, they were able to walk under sunlight and had more options to pick heavier jobs rather than being only night beings.

"Hi!" she babbled shamelessly, watching Maria's reaction, he drew her hand off his neck but a strong hand yanked him from behind, smelling like a werewolf!

"Oh, kiddo! I wish you brought us some fresh beef." Baring his teeth, made him scary.

"Let go of the boy! You bulky wolf." Finally, another human showed up. He was the oldest one there. His hair was dark gray.

"Oh, here you are, Dan."

"Shut up, Oliver!"

"Alright, follow me! Let me show what I have gotten today." David led them ahead, passing by the shelves that were all filled with tools and automobile parts, from airbag packs to the visors.

He touched a screen and it studied his fingerprint. The door scrolled up and around ten cars displayed in front of their sights.

"We must prepare these within two days!" They headed among those beasts that were entirely works of craft for FER, except one of them!

"Uncle! This is Bo Wong's car, why is it here?" She marveled and her eyes circled.

"A friend from Feral district brought it here. TECO refined for that mess. They are coming after it tonight!"

"I am also working on last night's case." She blurted.

David frowned. He didn't like that she involved herself with that matter.

"You check on each, I have some advice for this naughty reporter." He said, grabbing hold of Maria's arm guided her outside.

"What's wrong with that uncle?" she read his mind.

"Listen, Maria. I know that you feel pity about the Feral area but let them solve it. This is a big thing and you can't hold it because it might drag you down to the deeps." He warned.

"No, I am not thinking this way. They need help and a voice. There is no difference between either of us. I will show people why that building exploded and if we don't stop this, tomorrow there will be another one and I won't sit back on a chair, hugging knees and cry for the lost ones." She disagreed.

"Don't mess with those hunters, Maria!" David knew them well and they were not showing mercy toward an eighteen years old human girl.

"Why did you left the shield and gave up on being an Aligner? Commander Wong, your best friend lost his life to stand against cruelty but you escaped! You are scared and kept being silent, why?"

"These are none of your business; just don't poke your nose in their job. This is the last warning, before you even begin the countdown to zero they will shut you down."

"So what is the difference between them and Lashuka?" She could not believe that a retired Aligners was saying that. Her heartbeats paced and a hit of flames lashed her head.

Getting rid of this girl was almost impossible. He sighed.

"What did you take from him against this job?" David knew her perfectly.

"My business! Uncle, we are done."

"So I hope you bear about missing the next FER motorcycles." He threatened.

"People's life matters more!" She said, turning her face to leave.

"Make sure you don't lose your head because then I might offer Lashuka the fay king that he always wanted."

Maria didn't stop and continued until reached her motorcycle.

"I won't let people suffer and the shrines become richer in every passing by day." She murmured and left there.

Getting back to her room in the dormitory, she saw Jack's voice message slid out of the screen; "Girl, you left me here! I need to get back and bring my stuff; your uncle gave me a room here. Thank you for everything."

She just typed, "No problem." Her roommates were still outside, enjoying the night. But she still could feel the tension of the argument with her uncle. She somehow called him, a coward and she didn't really mean it.
