Chapter 37 - I Wish to See Those Emeralds Eyes One More Time

"I hate this place so much, it's the truest symbol of my failures and flaws. Not because you are here but because I am the reason you are here, nothing works, we can't bring those eyes back to this world so that they can illuminate this pitch tinted world again."

"You were no knight or a perfect person, no where near either, but you were a great person who refused to show your true colors in fear of being seen as weak. Why can't you just wake up for me? For us? We None of us want to see you like this and there is no way I'll accept your death, I absolutely will not. I'm begging you Ryker Itsuka, please wake up from this comatose state. Even though you get so angry when Hera and I call you a hero, my god you get so mad, you're still my hero and that will never change. We've been through everything together since the very beginning and have never abandoned each other no matter how hard things got, we raised each other from 7 to now so why? Why does the purple hand I see reaching out to you hold you better than any of us could? I've tried to lift this curse, not even the priests could rid you of this cruel fate, tell me god, I Am Sure of What I See Before Me but what is it? Why can't it just go away or why can't I take some of the burden?" Tears stream down her face as she holds her hero's hand who lay on a hospital bed, listening silently to the sounds of a gentle and labored heartbeat. All was normal with Ryker, he had no brain damage, his mind was seemingly conscious but he was clearly comatose. Ryker Itsuka wouldn't awaken for some reason no matter what the greatest Priests tried. Furthermore, this purple hand Yurie Nakayama was the only one who could see this ominous purple hand that held her hero, grabbing him and holding on tighter than any feelings of sadness or desire could. The more she begged him to wake up, the tighter it seemed to grip him.

???: You hear that? She must really love you Ryker, I couldn't imagine someone saying stuff like that about a hopeless idiot like you.

Ryker: W-What, where am I? What is this place? Why is it so dark?

???: This is the Chasm of Envy, and you have fallen all the way to, well, nowhere actually. Your Chasm of Envy is so deep that I am starting to think it's infinite. We've been here for 54 days straight and your soul hasn't slowed down its descent at all.

Ryker: Who are you? Why do you sound famili- Yurie! Where is she! I can't see anything, is she ok?

???: She's perfectly fine, don't worry. I wouldn't hurt someone so dear to me.

This jolts Ryker to subconscious consciousness, now aware of the infinite void of Purple and Black waves that seem to go on forever around him, he hears Yurie's voice and 2 voices speaking in tears around him but can't put a direction on them. One reading his favorite Light Novel series and the other sitting there seemingly listening for him, silently, but he still knew she was there, his mother waiting for her son to wake up.

Ryker: Who's talking to me? Why are you telling me this stuff?

???: Well, I am your Spirit, don't tell me you had no idea that the Sin of Envy lived within you?

Ryker: What? There's no way I have a Sin Spirit, I haven't done anything that could have transferred one to me.

???: You say that which intrigues me, but it intrigues me more that you haven't asked about the results of your battle.

Ryker: Oh shit! What happened, did anyone die?

???: Yes, only 8 of the officers that assisted you and Yurie survived and only 20 of the 79 total survived.

Ryker: S-seriously? How did th-

???: You weren't fast enough, again. You hesitated to let Yurie kill Estrea and you got everyone else killed because of your Naive nature. Something about you I truly don't Envy is your stupidity. You weren't fast enough to save Yurie the first time, and now you almost get her and all of the people you value so much killed.

"The first time? Oh yeah, I remember now. The bomb at the district building, the first time death knocked on my door.", this thought changed the color of the world around him into a complex mix of blues, greens and reds. Like a video but inside his mind, all of the words Yurie had spoken had since faded out of his mind and now all around him in this empty void, played a memory of his most desperate moments.
