Chapter 39 - The Priest and The Angel

In a blood soaked voice "No, I can't die here. I won't let her die". Looking around, Ryker still sees blood, dust and bloody people running around, trying desperately to find help for their fallen loved ones. Trying to ignore the furious agony rushing over his broken body, Ryker tries once again to stand up. " I'm definitely going to save you Yuri, I will not let y- Gaaahaaa!" as Ryker gets up the rebar starts to tear its way out of his leg forcing him to fall over and scream only to release nothing but a gurgle of horrifying agony as the rebar pushes back in upon impact with the ground.

Ryker lay there hopeless and quickly losing blood as the world around him began fading out once again but just as his vision was about to disappear and the world with it, he heard the voice of a young man. "Hey! You stay with me kid, I'm not gonna let you die here bud just stay calm and keep looking at me." The man called a few other people over to help but Ryker couldn't keep his eyes open for long because of the blood flowing from them.

Great Priest Zechariah: Oh Holy of Spirits of This Wonderful Earth Please Repair This Shattered Body and Return the Light to This Young Man's Eyes.

The Priest's incantation seemingly works, a Bright Green and Blue light to flood the street as Ryker felt the rebar being ripped from his. His body tried to let out a scream but only the life in his soul followed for a moment only to be returned instantly as his body felt repaired but the pain had not been forgotten as he still felt the now removed rebar still jammed deep into his leg. This was the downside to advanced healing magic, the pain still stays for some time afterwards, the body may heal but the agony never fully disappears. In an impatient tone the priest grabs Ryker and turns him over onto his shoulder. " Now boy! Spit the blood out and clean yourself up, this isn't over yet.", Ryker does just that without hesitation and finds himself able to stand up but is once again grounded by a crushing blow to his face that sends him flying backwards into an overturned car.

???: Priest? Why would a Priest be here?

Zechariah: I'm here on business.

???: Business at a school district building, what business could you have here?

Zechariah: That's confidential

???: Hmm, yes. Must stay professional as always.

Ryker regains his footing after having been slammed into a flipped car just to see the Priest Zechariah standing with his back to him in a defensive stance, he was protecting Ryker. "The Priest of Wind and Earth? Why the hell would he be at a school building?" Ryker asked himself this question but just before he could get a good look at the man who attacked them, he vanished in a Purple mist of shadow magic.

"Any idea who that was Ryker?", asked the Priest.

In a scared and impatient tone he approached the Priest. "Sir, I know this is something I shouldn't be asking for right now but can you come with me, I need your help and clearly you are the only person I can ask for help right now".

"I can't join you Ryker, I have to help the people in the building now please move asi-".

Ryker interrupted "That's where I am headed, my girlfriend Yuri is on the second floor, room 205!", Zechariah attempted to tell Ryker to run home or help some of the injured outside but it was all too clear that Ryker wasn't going anywhere until Yuri was safe.

Zechariah in a serious tone responded " I can't follow you around up there Ryker, find her and get her to me fast. There's too many people that need me for me to worry about one little girl."

Ryker, with hope rushing over him responds with a hopeful " Yes Sir!" and ran off to the building with the Priest right behind him. Jumping over burning cars and running around piles of glass and limbs, the site became more and more grim as they approached until they finally reached the bottom floor where dozens of people sat with minor injuries having been protected by the floor above them.

This left Ryker unsure and filled with mixed emotion, a part of him reached out to help the screaming children but his undying loyalty pulled him up the destroyed staircase to the second floor where he saw what could only be described as a warzone. The ceiling had caved in on the Eastern side and the rooms on the left side had been completely erased by the immense heat of the blast, desks and chairs were strewn about all over the second floor as he walked he saw a charred body with a chair leg in her stomach, clearly she died instantly judging by the lack of even charred blood on her formerly elegant red dress.

"I'm sorry you had to die this way".

Ryker said this to himself after every dead body he saw until he found the transfer student meeting rooms at the back right corner of the second floor. Thankfully, the walls were still standing.

Seemingly out of nowhere, a man appeared with blood all over him and several injuries covering his face. The man spoke in a scratchy voice, he clearly had internal damage. " Run boy! There's another bomb in the bathroom next to y-".

Just before he finished talking, a purple spear ripped through his chest leaving a hole going all the way through.

"Shit!", Ryker dropped down behind a desk and shot himself into the room he believed Yuri to be in with a blast of wind magic. When Ryker blasted through the wall, he saw an unconscious Yuri with blood covering the right side of her entire body.

" Y-Yuri. Yuri!", Ryker knelt down next to her to check her pulse. She was barely breathing and bleeding profusely from her neck. Blood covered the floor around her and had seeped into Ryker's clothing, Yuri's eyes remained closed but something about them seemed even more off now. The light sound of her breathing that had given Ryker hope had disappeared and her bent leg relaxed.

Yuri Nakayama had died in Ryker's arms.
