Chapter 8 - Demoness’ Husband

"Dad is always mean." Devi pouted. "Who is your dad? I'm not your d-" A fist hit Ames's head. It was Eden. He quickly put his hands on his head to protect it from another hit. "That's why Devi hates you." After the hit, Devi hid behind Eden. "What? Devi? My dear daughter, come and give me a hug. You changed so much, I didn't know it was you."

Devi hugged her mother from the back and ignored her father. She heard him say her name. She felt hurt by his unfunny jokes. Ames took his hands off his head. He was about to take another step towards Devi until he felt another hit on his head. He looked wrongly at Eden. There was no pity in her eyes. Her fist was in the air ready for another hit to be dealt on that head.

"Wait! Oh great demon lord, let me explain myself." Eden raised an eyebrow and smiled evilly at him. He shivered but continued. "If I can't defeat you, I will hug you! Attack!" He jumped towards Eden to try to hug her.

Eden, who knew his simple tricks, turned around to take Devi in her arms. She spun on herself with Devi and dodged the hug. When she arrived behind her husband, she kicked his butt. Ames quickly lost balance and fell face first on the ground with his butt in the air. Eden put her shoe aggressively on his butt and pushed it down the ground. He let out a small scream when it banged against the floor.

He weakly said "My ass is destroyed and my…!" She stomped on his butt again and it made him groan in pain. His irises shrunk and his brown eyes revealed the pain he felt. His eyes matched well with his short hair. "Stop playing around." She kept her foot there and put Devi on the ground. In that position, she talked with Devi. "Were you perhaps interested in a book? You were never interested before. It would be great if you started reading now, you could learn new things and maybe you will be back to how you used to be."

Devi looked with shiny eyes and pointed at the place she saw a book. "There! I saw a book I wanted. Can I really get it?" Eden pinched her cheek. "Of course, they're all yours." Ames was ignored by both of them and whenever he would try to open his mouth, Eden would stab her heel into his butt, signaling for him to shut up.

Devi started running to the place where she saw the book while Eden took her shoe off Ames and slowly walked away. He rubbed his ass with a wronged expression but didn't try to speak. He wondered why they came if they wouldn't let him hug them or talk to them. He felt so sad and abandoned.

Eden followed Devi with a curious look. She tried to guess what kind of book her daughter would choose: Historical, Scientificial or maybe one about magic theory. Eden frowned. She hoped it wasn't magic. Devi wasn't ready to use magic yet. She was too young. Maybe when Devi will be an adult, Eden will show her how to use it.

Devi hopped to the shelf and looked right at a book which was at her eyes' height. She got so excited she couldn't even touch it. She jumped in place. Eden looked amused at her cute daughter. Ames stayed away and pouted. He wanted to join in the fun but didn't want his ass to be beat again. From the side, the cover looked black. It had the number "2" written in crimson at the bottom.

When Devi finally calmed down, she took it out and saw that the book was really all black. Only the title was written in a golden color. The book was called… "Flawless" Devi tilted her head and read the title over and over again. "Did I not read... Did I?"

Eden looked a little disappointed, but patted Devi's head. "It's a fairytale… I might have read it to you. If I remember well, the girl's name must be… Darry? Hey, Ames. What was the girl's name in this book?"

Ames got up and quickly ran towards them with an excited face. He used this chance to hug his wife. Her hand twitched and she imagined his face in those bookshelves and smiled. Ames coughed because of the bad feeling but still hugged Eden. He looked at the book. He stared at it.

With a drop of sweat on his forehead he hesitated. "I don't remember this book or what it could be about." Eden shooed his arms away from her body and he took a step away from her. "I'm sorry, sweety." Devi shook her head. "It's fine, mom. It's even better if it's a new story and read it myself."

Eden frowned but quickly smiled at the innocent smile she received from her daughter. Devi was hugging the book as if it was a lifeline. Eden chuckled. She won't take it away if she acts so cute and protective to that insignificant book. Will she? "Do you want to go to your room and read? I will have some talk with your father so I won't be in your room all day. You should start going to school tomorrow so don't wait for me and go to sleep. Alright, sweety?"

Devi pouted and slowly nodded. "Good night Devi." Eden kissed Devi's forehead. "Hm! Goodnight mommy!" Devi smiled and ran outside the library while hugging her book tightly against her body, ignoring the begging in Ames's brown eyes.

Once Devi was gone, Eden smiled dangerously at Ames. He slowly took steps back while she was slowly approaching him. He got cornered. His back touched the bookshelves. Eden smiled and put a hand near his ear and the other grabbed his chin.

"E-eden? I-I love you a-a lot." Eden's smile grew. She rubbed her thumb on his lips. "I love you too, but... I love Devi more." Ames gave a pitiful look that Eden shooed away just by blinking. She said in an attractive demoness voice "Come in our room and… the~ night~ will~ be~ yours~" Eden's hand was on his chin before slowly sliding down his neck. It kept sliding down to his chest then she taped it with her finger. Before walking away she gave him a dazzling smile, leaving him there, not knowing what had just happened.
