Chapter 10 - Never Ending Maze

Devi didn't have time to reach the room where a white ball jumped in front of her. It was Celaine. Devi was happy to see her new friend so she ran towards the lost bunny and hugged her with one arm. Celaine flinched and then tears started to form in her eyes. She finally found Devi. She thought she would get scolded and tortured for not being by Devi's side.

Devi patted Celaine's back. "Will you join me in my room? Ah! And do you know where my actual room is?" Celaine let go and straightened her back and with a clear voice, she said: "Of course not."

"Oh…" Devi had high hope when she saw how confident Celaine looked . "What about the small room?" Celaine looked embarrassed. "I… Don't know… I'm bad with directions!" Devi smiled. "Me too! Ah, but I think I remember where the room is so for now you can follow me."

Celaine felt concerned. She knew she was bad with direction and that was why she never left her work place, the school nurse office but now when she was forced to follow someone as bad with directions as her… She could only pray not to suddenly appear in someone else's room.

Celaine walked behind Devi. If Devi said she remembered, she could do nothing more than try to trust her and follow. Maybe, Devi had a good memory... Soon, different doors were starting to be seen. Celaine smiled. They might actually find the real room where Devi was staying. It looked like this place was the dorms. She didn't quite get how they got here but the important thing is that they are here.

Devi stopped. She looked at all those doors and her brain began to fry. 'Why are there so many doors? That pink room wasn't there... was it?' It was as if she was walking in some kind of illusion. No matter how far she looked, it always looked like the same setting. Devi looked back at Celaine's relaxed face. "Um…"

Celaine's face suddenly stiffened. She felt something bad was coming. Devi poked her cheek with her finger and slightly tilted her head toward it. "Are we lost? Hehe" Her hand went back to hugging the book and she gave a silly smile.

Celaine wanted to cry. They might end up sleeping in the hallway. Worse, they might die of hunger if no one finds them and they keep walking. Who said Devi had a great memory? She just had some novice luck! Celaine curled up into a ball and rocked back and forth. "We will die. We will die… I should have never left my office. Oh we will die" Celaine said in a mumble.

Devi's ears only heard the word, "die". She thought of death. Her death. Devi's head stung and she made a pained expression. What came to her mind first were flames. She could smell the burning of flesh and feel her body heat grow. She opened her mouth to say something but closed it back. She couldn't use her voice. She felt like something was stuck in there. Like water was keeping her from talking. She didn't know what was happening. She looked at Celaine, trying to ask for help with her eyes. Celaine wasn't paying attention to Devi's panicked eyes. "Oof!" Celaine swung too far back and fell on her back.

Devi started sobbing. She saw some girl lying the same way as Celaine but with blood splashed everywhere. Devi backed away slowly. Celaine heard Devi so she sat up and looked at her crying face. Celaine made big eyes when she saw the horror in Devi's eyes. She jumped up and was about to ask what's wrong. Maybe there was a big cockroach next to her!

In Devi's point of view, she saw a bloody corpse sitting up, looking at her. Blood was dripping from its head and it had no eyes, it was black and empty. She was horrified. When the body had jumped to its feet, more blood fell on the ground and an arm fell down. So much blood. The thing took a step towards her and Devi flinched. She stared at the ground, where the blood was slowly making its way towards her shoes. When it was about to touch her, she screamed and started to run away from Celaine.

A black spot on the roof that was barelly visible could be heard say "stupid".

Celaine jumped back, scared of the loud scream Devi let out. She looked at the running girl with cold eyes. "It couldn't be that she knows?..." Her red eyes flashed with a small golden light. Celaine started to chase after Devi. She wanted to know what happened and she didn't want to lose sight of her.

Devi ran and ran… without once looking back. She was scared that if she looked back, she would see a bloody corpse running after her. She was panting hard. She felt tired, hot and scared for her life. She had to be courageous and look if the corpse was still there or she would need to run till she would get stuck. She didn't want to be stuck in a dead end and let that thing catch up and kill her. She didn't want to die again... 'Again?....' was the thought word she thought before turning her head.

Devi didn't even have time to have a clear view that a hand grabbed her shoulder and turned her body around. She wasn't mentally prepared and it also surprised her so she screamed yet again. At the same time a door had been slammed open. This made Celaine scream at the unexpected bang. "Everyone shut up! I am trying to practice with magic! Can't I… Devi? Shut up Devi!"
