I wake up first. Thank goodness I slept closest to the door. I see Tobecca's cigarettes and lighter next to her. I lean over Spencer and take three cigarettes and the lighter and exit the car. I want to stand on the bridge and watch the river. The breeze touches me which gives me the shivers but I welcome the feeling. I make it to the bridge. I light up a cigarette. I stand and my one arm rests on the railings. I take a puff and instantly dislike it but for some reason I still carry on. I think of my Life orientation teacher. He was a smoker. I would sit at the back of the class. He was funny but strict at the same time. Everyone knew to do his homework or else he would give you detention. He would make jokes about almost everything. We would have debates about which university or college was the best, which job paid the most money, which sport caused the most injuries and in one case, which of the teachers in the school had the best car although that debate was settled quickly. I think of Mary and even my parents. I wish they were all here. They would love to have been here. A tear runs down my eye. I wipe the tear away and smile. I know for a fact that Mary would love to put her feet in the river. " Am I disturbing a moment" says somebody. I gasp in freight and turn to face whoever it is. It is Spencer. " You gave me a fright" I say. " Sorry about that. I woke up and noticed you missing so I figured that you were going on the nature trial. Guess I was wrong." " Its okay. Thought I would enjoy the view before we leave" I say. I take out another cigarette and light it. Spencer raises his eyebrows. " I never thought you would ever smoke" says Spencer. " This is my fourth cigarette I have ever had. I smoked my first one before starting college and my second one after you humiliated me in a lecture" I say. " Was it the moment when I pulled your pants down" asks Spencer. " Yes" I say. We remain quiet for five minutes. " What was your best moment in college" asks Spencer. I think about it for a moment. " Well besides avoiding you, it would have had to been my time as a library assistant for five months" I say. " For five months? Why only five months" asks Spencer. " One of the library assistants who was a college student was stealing books and selling them. After she was caught, the librarian didnt trust college students to work in the library so I was forced to leave" I say. " Damm. I remember that story. That girls name was Jade. She occasionally sat with me and the college football team after Maths. Jade was a party girl but surprisingly never drank any alcoholic beverages. She loved animals. The football team and I had to listen to her go on about global warming but we never said anything because we all liked her" says Spencer. " What video games do you play" I ask. " I play survival games. what about you?" " I play fantasy and horror games ironically" I say. My second cigarette finishes and I almost start to grab the last cigarette but I decide against it. " We should go back" I say. Spencer nods. The walk back is in silence. When we make it back to the car, Tobecca and Lily have a fire started with some animal on a stick. " Morning sunshine" says Tobecca. Lily waves enthusiastically. " You are in trouble now Andrew" laughs Lily. It takes me a few seconds to realise why I could be in trouble. " Sorry Tobecca for stealing some of your smokes" I say. " Its okay. I'm surprised you even took" says Tobecca. " Same but things are not as they used to be. What are you cooking" I ask. " I caught a rabbit with my trap I set up last night. I asked Tobecca to sort everything else out" says Spencer. I look at Tobecca in disbelief. " What do you expect? My town was heavily farm themed. You dont stay there without picking up a few skills there and there" says Tobecca. I sit near the fire. " So what is the plan now" I ask. " Well, we are about twenty minutes away from Greyton so I suppose we head there. See if we can find something of use and then head back on the freeway" says Spencer. " What if Greyton is full of zombie mutants or hostile people" I say. " We should assume every place is got zombies or hostile people" says Lily. " Greyton is quite the place. My friend's sister lives there. Do you mind if we pay her a visit" asks Tobecca. " Sure no problem. I could use another break like this" says Spencer. " What is your friends sister's name" I ask. " Charlotte. She is quite the prankster. She is not in your face type of person but she is definitely a jokester. The amount of pranks I got, I cant even count. Hopefully she would have calmed down a bit. Anyway, breakfast is ready" says Tobecca. We eat the rabbit which is not bad. I would normally have said no to eating rabbit but because this is the apocalypse, you cant be fussy. We finish up and then get into the car.
We arrive in Greyton. The town looks like a normal suburban area. " Okay Tobecca, where do we go now" asks Spencer. " Keep going straight. Not to far now" says Tobecca. We pass several more houses before Tobecca stops us. " This is the one. Stop here." Spencer parks the car and Lily, Tobecca and I exit the car. " This seems nerve wreaking Tobecca" says Lily. Tobecca carries on walking and knocks on the door. " Charlotte. It's me Tobecca. I am coming in. I have friends over so no shooting." Tobecca unlocks the door and we enter. As we enter, somebody slams the door and another person comes out another room wearing masks. " Drop on your knees now."
