Chapter 2 - The Creator’s Grandchild

My name is Lukas, but you probably already knew that. My family isn't well thought of in the public eye, maybe because everyone thinks that my grandfather had something to do with The Departure, and since he's not here, the blame ended up falling onto me and my mom's shoulders. According to my grandfather's theory, the powers of the Creators don't appear unless magic entities from The Existence with bad intentions appear, and since the only magic here is just floating around with no user, it isn't exactly enough to trigger the Creator's powers. My mom only got the position of president as a sort of punishment for The Departure. Of course she doesn't have very much sway in the senate, and I don't exactly have many friends in school. Everyone avoids me because I'm the Creator's grand child, they can't actually physically bully me because I'm the president's son, but they do bully me verbally of course. When I was young my mom took me to one of the other worlds to meet my Grandfather. The place where we met looked like Mars, with desert-like features and red sand. He told me that one day I could live there. When I asked him why he was there instead of in our world, he told me that there was a project he was working on there, he asked if I wanted to see it. He took me to a small suburban town, he told me it was designed after certain small towns in the early 21st century. He said that he would build a better city here with magic. When I asked if there were any other places like this own the world he told me that there was, but they were all either unfinished or he couldn't show them to me. When I turned 14, my mom said that I wouldn't be able to see him anymore, the excuse was that I wasn't a child anymore and didn't need to be babysat when she was gone, but I knew there was something more to that story. Later a man would frequent our house claiming to be a good friend of my mom. I caught them talking one night about my grandfather and I, but they spotted me and changed the subject. Either way something was happening. Two years ago when I was 16, the man stopped coming over. I'm 18 now and I still have found nothing about what's happening. The only clue I have now is that my Grandfather once told me that when I turned 18 it would be a turning point, whether he meant that something related to him would happen or that I would be at the age of consent I don't know. My birthday was in February and it's already September, but I won't say it outloud as it would probably jinx it and have it happen immediately, probably just thinking about it would trigger it too. But I pride myself in my personal ability Commoners Luck, I'm lucky in most situations and any luck based games, and I also don't get into dangerous situations ever even if the chance is high. Twelve times I've nearly been in a car accident and each time the miss me by a few inches or hit another car, one time a car nearly hit me but some bank robbers got in the way and got hit instead of me. But twelve near accidents is unlucky in it's own right, of course my "skill" is just something I made up when I was eight. The sky outside is bright blue without a cloud in sight as the blue are the clouds because magic residue in the air, it may be fake but that doesn't mean it can't look good. The teacher stands at the front of the class talking about some kind of formula for trigonometry or something. The girls at the back of the class giggle quietly at some inside joke, one of the boys has his phone under the desk and is texting someone, and there's only about two or three people actually paying attention. The bell rings and the class goes on break for a bit. I pull out my phone to read a webcomic when I get text from someone, ID unknown. The message reads "enter darkness holy one, the time of light has passed the age of darkness arises", probably just spam, but why does it sound like a Souls reference. Then light… then darkness. I see nothing and feel nothing, yet it doesn't feel like sensory deprivation, it's more of a numbness. A faint glow appears and I can faintly make out a room, it looks like the inside of a silo. A small interface stares at me on a small, floating, transparent plate. A small piece of text prompts me to pick a class, followed by a list of different classes. I end up picking the "Reaper" class, whatever that means, I know it's a mysterious thing but I might as well progress it. It then asks me to pick a class specific skill, but when I try to select one it says "Class skill locked by Unique skill Commoners Luck". I continue onwards and in big text it says "welcome to 401"

"I was right to blame my luck for this." I say smugly.
