Chereads / Prince of Olympus / Chapter 12 - Awakening

Chapter 12 - Awakening

"HA! HA! HA!" Sky panted as he struggled to hold his mother as he sprinted forwards.

CRASH!!!! The ground shook behind him as a small mushroom of smoke rose. AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHH!!!! The roar echoed through the woods again as the ground rapidly shook and started beating like a drum.

"Mama... Is he... alright?" Sky asked through deep breaths.

"Father'll be fine, he's a titan after all!" His mother shouted.

"A what!" Sky asked, noticing the drum-like beating shaking the ground more and more and getting louder.

"I'll explain later!" She shouted back, "We're close, just a little more and you'll start to feel it!" She said as he turned her head forwards.

None of this made sense to Sky, but he continued running. CRASH!! The trees behind them began to fall as the footsteps started sounding like rapid cannons.

"FOOOOUUUUNDDD YOUUUUUUUUUU!!!" The howl echoed from behind them.

"No..." Vena clasped her mouth with her hand.

Sky turned his head back before clicking his tongue. "Stupid old man!" Sky grumbled as he tried running faster to no avail.

BOOM! The tree next to them turned into a pancake as a dark shadow loomed over them. Sky's back tingled. Suddenly he threw his weight to his left, leaping and narrowly avoiding a fatal kick from the giant. He hit the ground tumbling, losing track of which direction he was going and letting go of his mother, who hit her head on the ground, and crashing into another tree a good distance away from his mother. When the world stopped spinning he saw the giant turning around and his mother struggling to support her weight with her arms in the middle of two of them.

SNIFF! SNIFF! The giant stuck his nose in the air like a dog before snapping his head to Vena. A smile grew on his face as he took a step forward. "Smell like bag, found you!!" He said gleefully.

Sky struggled to his feet, he had reached his limit. The exhaustion from earlier weighed him down and after running this far he could barely see clearly. It felt as if the pain from getting smashed into the tree earlier was coming back as well.

His legs wobbled uncontrollably as he slowly rose to his full height. "You… want… me..." Sky murmured, "let… her… go..."

The giant took another step forwards and bent downwards a little, not hearing the faint voice of Sky.

"Let her go!" Sky shouted a bit louder slowly walking forwards towards his mother.

The giant heard this time, slowly raising his head up and sniffing once more. "Two bags?" He looked puzzled.

The giant took another step forwards and leaned down, not knowing what to do he continued to watch as Sky closed the gap between them ever so slowly. His legs were ready to give at any time and every other step they did, bringing him down to one knee and forcing him to repeat the cumbersome process of getting up and taking another step.

Slowly, he reached the giant's face and stared at it. It's horrible breath forced some of the bread from earlier up from his stomach as he pushed it down quickly. "Let… her… go..." Sky managed to say as he pulled back a loose punch and tapped the giants cheek.

The giant stared at him carefully and seemed to think a little to himself. WHAM!! He swatted Sky away into a couple trees. "No need weak bag, strong bag!" He decided.

Sky watched from the pile of tree trunks and branches he lay on top of as the giant grabbed Vena and pulled her up to his face and standing ten feet tall. "Now bag can die!" The giant cheerfully.

The words sent a cold chill down Sky's back. His body froze as he stared at the beast with wide eyes. "Die..." He managed to say. His heart started beating faster as his palms suddenly started to sweat. He pushed with all his might to get off the bed of legs, barely being able to move at all.

"Hey… Hey…." He tried to yell as he continued struggling to get up, "What… do you mean… die?"

Sky clenched his teeth and grabbed the trunk to his right. His entire body had become numb, not allowing him to feel even that. He took a sharp breath and put whatever strength he had left and rose to his feet, barely being able to stand without wobbling side to side. He looked up and saw a fearsome face on the look of the giant, filled with fear as he pulled Vena above his head, twisting his body as he did so.

"Let her go…" Sky whispered as his vision blurred and his nose stung, "LET HER GO!!!"

He took a step forward as the giant started to bring his clenched fist down, losing his balance and falling to his hands and his knees while keeping his eyes glued onto the fearsome sight in front of him.

"She's the only family I have…. Please….let her go..." He stared as a sudden fire developed in his heart.

"I SAID LET HER GO!!!!!!" He shouted.

WHAM!!!!! A bright flash appeared in front of Sky as the giant's skeleton suddenly became visible. It loosened his grip on Vena who was now falling unconsciously. Sky willed himself to move but his body wouldn't listen.

"AAAAAAGHHHHHH!!!!!" Sky shouted as he felt a warm liquid come out of his nose and ears.

Suddenly he was underneath Vena, standing on his feet.

Crash! He caught her body with his own and hit the ground.

"Ha! Ha! Ha!" He breathed heavily as he lay on the ground, his consciousness fading.

There was a faint smell of something burning as the world around him started going black, his vision blurred as he touched his head to the ground and disappeared into a deep state of unconsciousness.
