Chapter 1 - The first day

It's hard for one to make their way in the world when there is so much pressure on someone's shoulders. This is even more so when it comes to school even more so when it comes to Darea.

It was a cold day, there was a low-hanging somber sky above my head, unlike the many other students that had come with their parents for one last goodbye mine were nowhere to be seen. I did not expect much but at least a goodbye would have been nice to hear at the very least. I never expected one from sis but it would have been nice for her to show up at the gate. It was slow but they were there I had butterflies in my stomach or was it fear I couldn't tell. It was at that point the ground beneath my feet changed, the concrete that made up the path to the front gate was almost completely gone at this point. It had been replaced with soft gravel by the school which crushed with little resistance under my hole-filled shoes. The front gate now visible left little other than fear in a person after all the rusted iron bars of Darea college had led to the death of many young, mature and brilliant people as many other colleges had. The bars of iron were coated with their own layer of red rust with the added look of being twisted beyond repair only the name being legible. Looking at the fence line it was not hard to see where the school began as for about a yard prior to the twisted metal that made up the fence line was just soft gravel. This was a gruesome sight, but it was the reality of things at least they took last year's layer of rust off the fence.

The only part of the school that could be seen was the large courtyard that made up the front field to protect from the entrance exam. The field was all that was standing between the front gate and the structures that made up the college. Even with being able to see through the gates with all the lines of people, it was hard to see what the field looked like last year it was all flat. The field changed from time to time depending on the events. However, the one thing that has also been constant is the fact that it has always been made of dirt every single year.

As Ryan continued to walk to the gate the scene turned to a better tone as large families took pictures and others were giving away food. It was obvious that what was to come was not going to be pretty, everyone had come this year they may have been smiling but the tension in the air said it all. Even small families showed for the one or in some cases sending off multiple students to the entrance exams that only made it even hard to deal with having no support. The smell of the food had been heavy as Ryan shuffled his hand around in his pocket to fish out some money only to come up with about three cents which were probably nowhere near what it would cost for him to buy a meal. With such little money, Ryan mumbled to himself as he put the three-cents back in his pocket.

"I should have taken some food before I left but I guess the smell will have to do"

Ryan's stomach roared and curled in pain, it had been far too long without food inside as it must continue to soldier on with just water and air. Ryan continued on his way trying his best not to inhale any of the godly fumes from the nearby food stalls.
