You see Arthur isn't a fighter at all he's quite incompetent in that category but he wanted to follow the tropes of all the isekai anime he's seen, but its put him in a terrible life-threatening situation. A group of three dire wolves all lunge at him and with no surprise all take Arthur to the ground gnawing at his armored arms till they're shot and killed by the dead-eyed girl.
"You're in the way." Her words send daggers straight through all the confidence he had stored for a moment like this as Arthur returns to his feet to get tackled by another dire wolf that gets shot off his fragile body.
"I'm not a trained fighter. Not at all." Arthur replies brushing himself off after the swift consecutive attacks by the dire wolves. He then trains his eyes on the girl searching for just a little bit of direction from her moves "Ughhh it's no use! Alright miss uhh what's your name?"
"Alice." the girl replies coldly, readying another arrow firing it between a charging dire wolf's eyes.
"Okay… Alice would you mind training me?" Alice scoffs at his remark firing another arrow into a dire wolf's skull as their numbers continue to decrease. She then draws a sword and readies into a fencer's stance.
"Follow my lead and stay out of the way."
"Alright time for some live combat training!" Arthur shouts as his previous enthusiasm returns entering a similar stance to Alice. The pair readies their blades as another pack of direwolves exit the forest.
"Block. Strike. Reset. Simple enough yeah?" Alice says as a direwolf lunges to the pair; its attack is blocked and sent away by Alice as she stabs through the direwolf's abdomen slaying the behemoth. Arthur gets attacked and… attempts a block if you could call it that, but it seems lady luck has his back at the blade goes into the direwolf's mouth; he successfully cleaves it's head as the opposing forces of Arthur's push and the dire wolf's tackle work as an advantage for Arthur as he gets his first kill although the only thing impressive about it was the luck he had.
"....A good job or nice work woulda been great y'know!" Arthur shouts, returning his feet.
"If it was impressive I would've said it was." Alice retorts with a bundle of direwolves piled up behind her, "There shouldn't be too many left. I'll let you deal with the rest." She says resting herself on a log.
"A- Are you insane???" Arthur screams at the top of his lungs as he's met by a strong gust of wind magically pushing him into the forest where he meets three direwolves that really couldn't be less happy to see him. "I'm going to die… I'm gonna die here." Arthur reluctantly puts up his blade as a direwolf pounces "Three simple steps just three simple steps." He thinks to himself as his eyes close and he deflects the direwolf's tearing claws. "Block is finished now strike…" He takes a slash at its jugular digging in deep as it gets stuck when another direwolf leaps into the air cutting deep into Arthur's chin with its claw. The newly formed gash spills blood as Arthur removes his blade from the slain direwolves jugular, the wound spits out blood covering the right side of his abdomen body as he turns to the remaining two direwolves. The remaining two launch themselves at Arthur each going for an attack to his face, Arthur puts up a sturdy block and dives between the two direwolves slashing across their stomachs. Although one escapes with a minor wound the other has its belly fully cut open spinning blood and other juices onto Arthur as he recovers. "Just one more… one more and it'll be over." Arthur pants and steadies himself aiming his blade towards the wounded direwolf each of them making their way towards the other. In a split second the two meet in the middle clashing metal to claws, the wounded direwolf is the first to waver allowing Arthur to cut a gash into its front legs; the direwolf stands tall again and drives its claws into Arthur's shoulder. His vision is blurry but he can see his final option, to avoid a painful death he'll have to bring this prideful direwolf's life to an early end. He takes the quick route and drives his blade into its skulls as its claws release and leave his shoulder and its body falls limp, "That bitch… she knew I could've died there. Well what does it matter anyway, I just wanna get some sleep." Arthur's body goes limp as he falls to the ground drenched in his own blood and the dire wolves, a climactic end to the battle perhaps not the one you'd expect from your own protagonist but a climactic end nonetheless. Arthur awakes on the shoulders of Alice with his wounds cleaned and bandaged.
"You did fine I suppose." She says flatly as she lays him on a bed within the guild hall, "Rest here for awhile you'll need to heal, wash your armor too."
"Uh huh, thanks…" Arthur says groggily laying into the bed upon realizing he reeks of organ juices and he's been stripped of his armor and shirt "...Nice." Arthur rises from the bed and bathes himself ridding some of the stench from his body but it's not quite completely gone so he'll just have to live with it. After a day of terror, violence, joy and triumph Arthur is finally able to rest his head even if it's only for a short moment.
