Arthur awakens to a knock at his bedroom door. Upon getting dressed and answering it he is met by an androgynous figure with a large top hat resting upon their head. Suddenly the scene changes as the two appear in the middle of a circus as James is now adorned with a top hat and a dress for whatever peculiar reason.
"Welcome to my Wonderland!" they say as James floats into the air, watching tigers jump through flaming hoops, elephants being ridden and fairies delivering food to viewers.
"Huh- wait... who are you?!" Arthur shouts, questioning the figure.
"Me? I'm just a friendly entertainer. Who you are is the real question." They say as Arthur is dropped into the crowd where he is surrounded by past versions of himself. "Certainly the real you must be there somewhere, good luck!" the figure disappears into the crowd as Arthur is left with himself.
"What the hell is happening!?" Arthur yells, paranoid as the various versions of himself approach, each gripping onto him as he's pushed further and further into the ground. With each passing moment Arthur is pushed further down till his consciousness fades and he finds himself back in the normal world, but three years previous to his death. He sees himself back in his first year of high school; this time he's a spectator to the most mundane movie mankind has ever created. It started as any normal high school life would, he went to an orientation that he didn't bother to listen to which led to him being lost in his classes for the first week. He wasn't someone with too many friends to count, but he wasn't lonely as his outgoing personality allowed him to converse with most people. His first year of high school was obviously the most boring thing ever so lets fast forward a bit to the second year, now there's a girlfriend so you better pay attention.
It's the start of another year, but things are looking up for James. Over the summer he started talking to a girl named Lena, a senior in his school and the top academic in her grade. She worked as a tutor and was hired by James' parents to help with his grades which were... leaving much to desire to keep it simple. Throughout each session James flirted to no avail. Nearing the end she suddenly started playing along with his advances, but it remained platonic till she suddenly suggested that they date. James, excited by the chance of having a girlfriend leapt at the opportunity, accepting her offer immediately. Their relationship seemed sturdy, but they each had doubts as neither of them held any previous relationship experience and Lena was often stern and unwavering with James' irresponsible behavior which ended up making her appear as a bossy bitch to the students. James never held a grudge against her for the bossy behavior as he had gotten used to it and has taken a liking too it as she keeps him on the straight and narrow. This year his grades took major leap while his social life held steady and Lena's own social life grew with James help, but there were particular urges that James had which annoyed the hell out of Lena, horny teenager urges. They haven't even gotten to first base and now James wants to go all the way for a homerun!
"Not a chance in hell." Are the only words she has for James suggestions, but James ensues, annoying her repeatedly. For whatever reason she wont stop the relationship even with James immaturity and the fact that she'd be going overseas for college, information she hasn't yet told James. With countless strains on the relationship even James knew something was wrong, but didn't want to say anything that could upset Lena. Their relationship continued till the end of James' sophomore year and to Lena's graduation where the news was finally broke to him, but not by Lena herself. As James sat alone at the ceremony he overheard a conversation between Lena and a teacher.
"Congratulations on your acceptance to Cambridge!" Those were the words that rocked James' world for the first time in awhile. After the ceremony ended James and Lena drove back to her home where James confronted her.
"Lena, why didn't you tell me you were going to Cambridge?" He questioned with an estranged look on his face.
"I didn't want to trouble you. You would've been sidetracked and your grades would've dropped." Lena replies, wishing to ease James' worries.
"But now you're gonna leave, what's supposed to happen to our relationship then?" James asks.
"It'll be over, I wished I had ended it sooner. We wouldn't have to go through all this if I did." Lena says as she begins to walk into her home. "Meet me here later, we'll say goodbye then."
"Oh, okay.' James walks off, saddened as he mutters to himself. "If only I had gotten in her pants." He approaches a crosswalk and passes through thinking no cars are coming, but he's suddenly railed by a speeding taxi as it all fades to black. Its been hours after his passing and Lena was the first to get the news, she had a flight booked for an hour after her break-up, but delayed it to give a final gift to James; her virginity. Unfortunately that'll never happen as the couple is separated by an entire universe now or so you'd think, but your lovely god Deus Ex Machina is a being of romance and these two lovebirds need to get back together. Deus forms their next plan as a truck meets Lena in a twist of fate to send her to a bright fantasy world so she can rekindle her love.
Arthur rises back from the ground pushing past all his previous versions as he's met by the carnival figures foot.
"I see you've completed my masterfully created short film, what did you think of it?" They ask, sitting upon a floating chair.
"I'm processing it." James says as tears flow down "Yeah I'm an idiot, definitely an idiot. How did I not get in her pants?" He says as he's thrown back into his room by the figure where he sees its night before being bonked on the head and knocked out.
"Sweet dreams, dear hero."
